Custom Role Names

CUSTOM ROLE NAMES!
This is for in game custom save slots.

The way it would work is that when you are making your save you can change the name of any and all roles to the name you want.


Example:
Sheriff -----> Cop

You could do this with any role that's available in the game.

To avoid some confusion, the original name of the role could appear at the bottom of the role card.

This wouldn't change the role card itself, but it lends itself to RP and Theme games.

To avoid abuse by players, you can institute requirements to unlock this feature for use.



Requirements:

• 20,000 or alternatively 30,000 points
• Certain Achievements?

I think this would be a welcome addition to the game.


Addendum:

You can also add in the ability to change the text appears at start of game to read whatever host put in his save, for instance the name of his setup he called with enabled color coding

I really like this idea -- it would open up the possibility of creating themed SC2Mafia games like we have for Forum Mafia. I agree with Stealth that there is a possibility for abuse, but that's already true with custom player names. The parentheticals listing each role's "official name" would also reduce the chance of confusion. Lastly, having there be a point requirement to make custom role names would curb abuse -- it's not as if every new player can just rename roles (sans bank hacking or something like that, which can be dealt with through the normal enforcement channels).

This already happens with player names though? Plenty are incredibly offensive, lol. The problem could also be reduced by allowing players to repick hosts who are clearly trolling with custom name setups. The only really problematic situation I could see is with smurf bank hackers who create new accounts with a lot of points in order to use the custom name feature to troll.

2) Those who do abuse could be reported for Name Abuse like they already do and point banned for it
3) Like already stated you could name abuse in the same fashion, some people want theme games that the current game doesn't completely allow beyond simple names for players.

But, no one really Roleplays in the game, unless a theme for names where already picked. So I would suggest that the renaming of roles is something you have to come onto the forums, suggest yourself, and maybe even have some of the defalut names to match the role card names

Plus, we already don't punish for making offensive names. What happens when I name each role a different racial slur? Is that punishable?

So how about lets remove a few things that are in the game that are abused:

• Custom Names
• Custom Setups
• Blacklist and Prefer

While we are it lets remove the vote mechanic because thats often used to troll people rather than play the game. We keep removing features and soon the game isn't fun.

Point is that features can be abused, theres already ways to troll games. Have a horrible setup, have a unreadable name.

I would keep it simple, if the name is too long for graveyard its abuse. Light Punishment
If you repeat a name thats abuse. Light Punishment.

Since we don't punish offensive names or slurs I don't see why to start with this.

Not for pub games. Everyone is going to call the role by its original designation if we don't want to descend into chaos.

We already have a triad that's a re-fluffed mafia. How much more pain do you intend to inflict on those of us who have trouble remembering names?

You will be able to read the original name of the role in the role cards. You don't need have to remember these from game to game. It requires a bit more attention than a normal game.

We could put in a vote to disable custom names. If that would make it okay for lazy folks like you.

I am not sure theres much better ideas beyond role mechanic changes and role additions to add in this game.
This is a decent aesthetic change to the game. So it doesn't feel like every game you play is the same. They can feel more dynamic (even if they aren't)

So far arguments against are:
This isn't needed
This would be confusing for players/work to keep straight role changes

Arguments for:
Makes saves feel more unique
Players allowed more customization
Theme games are fun.

At least to me, one of the reasons FM is a lot of fun is the themed games created by hosts (Pokemon, Assassin's Oath, etc.). I feel like a carefully customized SC2Mafia game would be really fun, like being able to run Fire's Assassin's Oath game, for example, in the SC2Mafia world. It would add some nice variety to what can otherwise be a bit repetitive at times (given the lack of updates for a while). I think the idea would be that these customized games would be a somewhat special thing (i.e. every so often, with a host who has put something creative together), as opposed to something you would have to play every other game.

Pretty much this. Arsonist will be Hitler, Cult will be KKK, Veteran will be Al Quaida, Escort will be Bitch and Consort will be Whore, Executioner will be Nazi, Citizen is Jew, Godfather will be Kim Jong-un, Jester will be Woopee Goldberg, ultimately everything will be confusing too.
