Lol how does college application work in the US. Do you send applications out, or do the colleges send you recruiting emails, or what?

Both.

Unless you're like clearly a cut above the rest you're definitely not going to get "recruited" by top schools. Even then it's still not that likely. They know you're going to come to them. I was accepted to Purdue. I had to go seek them out.

You MIGHT get "recruited" by a decent state school. None of the state schools in my state tried to recruit me though. I would say generally do not accept invitations from places that mail you. Again, most decent colleges know you're going to come to them.
