Pavlov was the father of Classical Conditioning.
Basically, what he did was ring a bell every time before he fed his dogs. When he fed his dogs, they would drool more than usual. After a while of ringing the bell before he gave them food, he would start ringing the bell without giving them food. They would drool even if there was no food present, because he had classically conditioned them to think of food every time a bell is rang.

The joke is probably not funny for you, but you should know who Pavlov is.
