    S-FM OoO

    I'm toying with an idea so feel free to share thoughts.

    Along with night actions players will guess a number.
    The closer they are to the number will determine the order of operations.

    Random Example: the number is 52
    The killing role chooses 51
    The protective role chooses 50
    They both target the same person
    The target dies and is not protected

    Where ties occur, regular OoO takes precedence.

    I'm undecided who should choose the number.
    Host randomized would be a completely different game than a Town 'government' role choosing the number.

    Thoughts?

    Have a random system, but don't tell the players what your random system is. (ie: Don't use sample(1:100, 1) )

    An alternative method might be to have players pick a finite binary sequence and the "closest" person is the one who has the fewest digits off from your number. This makes it more "random," and prevents players from playing it safe by picking middle-y numbers or taking risks by picking ones toward the end. Unfortunately, at this point, you may as well just be assigning the OoO completely randomly, since there's no real way to pick an optimal sequence.

    I thought the same thing. The OoO May as we'll be randomized if the number isn't chosen by a player.

    Yeah, I think it would add more fun to have a player pick the number.

    Not all roles require OoO to work well. E.g. Jailing types, Blackmailing types, Crier types, Item giving types. Considering this is OoO dependent game, would it be more fun to do away with those roles and basically make it a killer type & protective type game only? With the exception of one order of operations master who picks the number.

    You should make a bunch of killers but they have to guess a number to actually perform a kill.

    I assume they just act at the same time, and uses common sense. Like sheriff and escort pick same name, Escort blocks sheriff, sheriff doesn't act. Doc and vigilante target same person, person is attacked & healed ect

    i would do what i think death did with the "mod" where the player is knwon to be the number choser and that they have a unique wincon like "dont let the players find out your true number"

    have it start with like 1 to 1000 and after each night it gets cut in half so after night 1 it would be between 50o and the upper or lower portion

    if anyone guesses the true number that player loses, if nobody guess the number within the range of 10 the player wins solo. if any player guesses within range of that the number player gets joint win with faction that won

    this way nobody will delibertly go 500 in attempts to try to get first action

    I see a problem with this that you can't effectively formulate a strategy based on OoO. You can't know if someone has vests, guns, other items. roleblocks can become useless. makes it really hard to plan your night actions closer to the end of the game in an orderly way, giving scum the advantage most the time.
