I feel like all the fun is getting sucked out of each and every game on this site. Mafia is after all a game, which is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. But I think a lot of people are turning it into a fight every game and making it become lame with their personal rules and ways of playing. I think everyone could definitly try and bring fun back into it and stop critizsing everyone and being rude and just try and make it more enjoyable! What do ya all think!

No it doesnt! i dont mean competitive! i mean like people yelling at you for making a mistake they you dont view as a mistake! people thinking theyre better than everyone and need to show it kinda thing.

I think I would have to agree that it feels more like a competition than a game. It's actually a bit stressful to play because I need to have a clear mind if I want to not make a mistake, but I can't have fun like that. Anyway, I agree with Bunny. Less rudeness, more encouraging, everyone!

i find it happens in almost every game! for instance a night actions shows up and you didnt do what someone said they will cirtizise you for being stupid or a moron. Its just a game and peopel take it to seriously, you should be able to play without beig insulted.

The problem is the people this site originally attracted were highly intelligent and sharp minded people. People like this tend to be anti-social and uncaring for others. Just seeking a means to prove their intelligence over other people they potentially respected for their intelligence. The idea of teaching other people to do something you've grown accustomed to and have competed in so thoroughly leads to a development of behavior that creates dispute with people who can't stand on the same skill level. Even Damus and I, who are like the nicest of the experienced, excluding some people here for sake of simplicity; get aggressive to people for their mistakes sometimes through frustration, regardless of the fact that we were their at one point in our career here on the site.

I jut think everyone can out in a little more effort to calm down and remember to be nice and have fun! We don't need to scare away new and old members for no reason!

Let's give an example that you've said something mean, would you like that someone said the same thing to you?

The issue is competive, usualy it goes between the line of everything.
Solution would be to keep the competition while remaining social and friendly. Possible, but personalities would have to change.

Truthfully I think Yayap's FM Tips and Tricks thread needs to be pushed up again. I'm not sure but I don't think many of the newcomers have seen/read it yet.

While it is true that Positive reinforcement works significantly better than Negative Punishment, it's easier to fall to the latter because it is more satisfying to people to want to yell at each other for their mistakes.
In another sense, it is generally expected that people are to "suck it up," so to speak.

People should explain things in games that were dumb instead of calling people dumb! Some people, like myself, are more emotional than logical thinkers, I see things differently in games and act upon that. It's not stupid it just means they will see certain things as a good idea and a more logical person wouldn't.

Well I hope I never offend someone like that. I think people must realize that every brings to the table their own sets of assumptions. Yet, I never felt insulted for doing the wrong thing. Perhaps maybe people should wait until after the game before forming the opinion that the person was an idiot. If they still had that opinion, perhaps that matter is best resolved via private message.

Yes, I do have to agree (obviously out of FM/SFMs) that teaching others can be frustrating. Dealing with others who have decision making powers who act like idiots is frustrating. However, the ones I see in the real world are much worse than any mafia game. Even if I KNEW someone was an idiot, I would figure it's not best to call them on it until after the game. After all, apparent idiocy could be deciding a wifom differently.

I also feel like a big portion of this problem is between players who get deep into the game, such as myself, and players who play it as a fling.
There just seems, imo, to be this different level of care that brings out a lot of frustration within players, such as myself.
{I've spent a huge majority of FM16's night phases arguing with myself about people's scumminess, night choices, and their posts and how it works with a town viewpoint vs a scum one.}

I think my play in games should be a testament that enjoyment comes before competitiveness. I talk MVPs, but I am more focused on making every game I play memorable than actually walking away with a badge. Dat Acnologia claim. lol. And oh my god the game I had planned before modkills in s-fm Data. Lolz were so inbound.

lol. calling yourself smart? Not all "smart" people insult others because they feel like it. Me, yayap, raiden, myself, illidan, and i are good examples. your theory is likely but it's not always accurate. imo sometimes it's okay to call someone dumb if it everyone else saw something that that person didn't see. also did I mention yet that i'm a good example of a nice smart player? im the best.

This topic is specifically talking about Forum Mafia, not just SC2mafia. Etiquette is generally set at a higher bar in FM.

I agree with this, very much so. It's easier to be nice to people when you see they are actually trying to improve themselves.

yayap gave me no advice but to post more before i got modkilled in an fm. All his rule stated was to post daily and i did. People always think i lurk or dont try but in all honesty i do try hard but yu know..just come up with nothing and i find it lame when people criticize that.

yea, FM hosts should never change their rules in the game, even if it's what the majority of the players want. And the latter is a thing that all players have experienced, either here or on sc2, where they stay quiet cause they have nothing to add that hasn't been said already or don't want to look like a fool for bringing something up and everyone saying it's dumb. It can become disconserting.
