A Parting Apology

I'll try and keep this briefish.

I've been thinking quite a bit about the past since Raiden and I spoke privately before his second departure, and I realized something as I result that I feel requires addressing before I sever ties.

Months ago, this community suffered a deathblow when two of it's most respected members departed for reasons that are not mine to say. As a result, the soul and direction that we as a collaboration of peers had ensured continued to be enforced on DR vanished, and everything splintered to pieces. And as such, the community I knew and loved died with it.

But instead of realizing the damage such a thing had caused at the time, I was too busy sitting aloof a pedestal of a false ideology; that my only due issuance towards the community was that I moderated in-game, not once even considering that my critique about reports being the sole focus of the moderator team at the time was an easy parallel to it. Instead of doing anything at all to ensure that the same quality of decision-making, of directing the focus of the mod team towards enriching the community to a point where community members wouldn't need to turn to trolling to feel some sense of belonging or as a cheap form of sustaining entertainment, I was far too caught up in the confrontational high that came easily to me at the time.

And because of that, I truly failed the community, for showing absolutely no positive initiative at all. So for anyone who had or has devoted as much time into this community as I have, who has felt obligated to follow the natural progression towards the travesty it is now, words simply cannot express how sorry I am.

And now, after finally realizing that returning to that great, intellectually driven community is one-hundred percent impossible, I think this time it's best if I follow Raiden's lead.

It seems, through all the trolling and mindless topics consistently seen on these forums, that the community is unintelligent, as you believe. But it isn't necessarily that black and white. There are intelligent people on these forums. I assume my word means little to you, but it isn't a matter of surface area, it is a matter of what content is lead.
The troll section of the community leads what gets posted, pretty much. There isn't a lot of people going out of there way to start philosophical threads, or intelligent discussion of any kind. Post people get blinded by immediate entertainment equivalent to the kind seen on television that their intellectual sides never have the opportunity to be seen.
In the meantime, it is unfortunate to see you go as your intelligence does shine through, in a bashful way, as you stated, "I was far too caught up in the confrontational high that came easily to me at the time;" in these moments.

The current state of the forums? It's more like having nothing constructive to chat about while waiting for the patch and new updates. What to do besides idle chat and spam? If I'm not mistaken, Mafia Discussion was the most active subforum. Nowadays, it's nearly dead. Unless it's hidden in R&D...

The Reports subforum? Basically choosing between two evils. No comment.

People come and go. The only thing that does not change is change itself. To put it in perspective, the founding members are just a small part of SC2 Mafia players, the in-house players are just a small part of SC2 Mafia players, the forum posters are just a small part of SC2 Mafia players, the trolls are just a small part of SC2 Mafia players and the cheats are just a small part of SC2 Mafia players. So no need to feel bad.
