(and that's when your plan went south)

Ronald Page is a man. A man who discovered a casino ATM that allowed him to continually overdraw his account towards chips until he'd managed to rack up over $1.5-million. So what did he do? What any other f***ing idiot would -- lost it all in a gambling binge.

Convicted of theft of bank funds totaling $1.5 million, Mr. Page now awaits sentencing scheduled for June 27. Local 10 reports that prosecutors have recommended a 15-month prison sentence because they believe "Page had a lapse of judgment and [Bank of America] the bank was at fault for allowing this to happen."
Listen: if you EVER come across an ATM that lets you withdraw money you don't have, here's what you do: TAKE IT ALL, FAKE YOUR DEATH, AND FLEE THE COUNTRY. Same goes for if you find your roommate's porn stash.

Thanks to Tommy T., who agrees that stupid bastard should be on a beach right now sipping cocktails out of a coconut.

So basically, the casino got to keep the previously-stolen winnings, and the burden of repayment was put onto the criminal?

I suppose that makes sense in one way: when criminals are caught with stolen money, the police usually get all of it back. Since they got nothing back, and perhaps there's a law saying that the casino can keep it even under these circumstances.

criminals don't repay the money, they get fines and/or jail time. Should someone being charged choose to do restitution, then in certain cases, if the victim drops the charge and the prosecutor agrees to drop it too it could end that way but it is unlikely. When at all possible, the stolen property is returned to the owner when recovered. the owner is usually an insurance company. yes banks are insured. For example some of the bills may of been recovered from their serial numbers.

to give you a concrete example of what is proceed from crime Necro, if the story was true and I don't believe it, but at it been, and the guy turns his 1.5M into 3M, since the 1.5 was used to earn the other half, the cops would of seized it all. In this fictional case it was lost, so nothing was gained. The casino would give whatever money that could be proved part of the theft since they are too insure and would be able to claim their lost on their income tax too.

the profit of crime act was mainly implemented for drug money but is widely used for any money/asset crime.

    hope this helps
