A sign on the road reads: "Welcome to Shittytown." Could this really be the real name of this town I was invited to? thought the passengers of the 14 cars that were slowly filing in. But no one cared, because there was money there. Their salaries as police officers just weren't exactly cutting it.

Shittytown, Connecticut, was the redeeming address on those sketchy lottery tickets that they had bought from the delis in New Haven.

They had all won 620 million dollars.


At high noon, the last car arrived. They all stood in front of the closed door of 1 Shitty Square, the town hall, waiting for their promised money. They had worked in different precincts, none of them knew each other. A few giggly greetings were exchanged.

A boot kicked open the door. "Welcome. Come inside." The 18 (wait, 18? I could have sworn there were only 14 cars?) young, money-blind winners walked in, awaiting the piles *halved by government taxes* of money that would lay before them. Except there was no money. There was just darkness.

There were suddenly 18 of them in a dank room, with 18 chairs, and one gun on a table, with 17 bullets. A voice played over a condemned PA system in the corner.

"I know what you're all thinking. Why is this place called Shittytown?" None of them were thinking that, they were waving their phones around to get a signal and call the police of this town, attempting to use their transceivers, holding out guns and batons, but the guns were all out of bullets, they realized shortly.

"Oh, I know you weren't thinking that. What you are thinking is turning us in. And I'll tell you...the police here are pretty shitty. And we're just here to prove to ourselves that other police are just as shitty. Now, try. Try and find us. Have fun."

They sat stunned...and utterly clueless.
