Prometheus is a terrible movie, and it will spoil Alien for you.

It's not worth the money. There's no pacing, it's predictable as hell and there's zero suspense. It substitutes actual horror for overly-squirm worthy gore. It's also clumsily tied in with Alien, and is a generally poorly-made and messy script. Its narrative is grossly uncoordinated, with no payoff or conclusion on any of the interesting issues it tries to address eg. There's an entire religious subtext throughout the film that never actually gets resolved in any way - just planted in the script and left there. As a massive fan of Alien/Aliens, I don't recommend it ALTHOUGH, compared to the other stuff in the cinemas atm, there's really not much choice in the matter. I heard the The Loved Ones was good.

I think it will be a fairly good movie. Not sure how you were able to get in early without a screening, but okay.

About Toy Story 2, you will have to realize that the general audience is different for the movie.

Kids are easier to please, which Toy Story 2 is directed to. Haven't ever seen a grown man actually willing to watch Toy Story 2 with no problem all by himself.

Sure, the movie won't be perfect if you asked an adult, but ask from a kid's perspective, I'm willing to bet you they all say they enjoyed the movie.

I painfully shut my eyes when I discovered some European Wikipedia user already put up the spoilers to the movie, when it hasn't even come out in North America yet! Pre-ordering my ticket , IMAX 3D!!!

Admittedly, Weyland and the ending of the film are related to the Alien franchise, but that's essentially all. Everything else is different.

I really enjoyed the movie. I felt there were some slow stretches, but there were also utter moments of awe and wonder. The scene where David entered the pod chamber and saw the map of the solar system/universe was breath-taking. The gorgeous scenery, technology, and seamless fusion of the two was wondrous. A movie is not built just on its visuals, but there's no denying the film is chock-full of vivid imagery.

In the final act of the film, it gets a little disappointing. The whole movie feels like it is building towards a powerful, heart-racing climax. In many ways, the film paralleled the main character, Shaw: The rush of finally seeing what she'd been waiting for, only to be disappointed by the final result. That's sort of how I felt after seeing Prometheus. I was utterly riveted until after the self-surgery scene, when the movie seemed to hit a stand-still. Nothing truly came from the ending (other than the "shock" revelation which I saw coming). It does set itself up nicely for a sequel though.

Speaking of the self-surgery scene, I believe that out-did the Chestburster scene from Alien. That was the one scene in Prometheus that I was utterly disgusted by, but could not look away during it. I am so thankful I am not female.

I don't believe she was infected because the 'squid' was in a sac that had no direct contact with her internal organs/bloodstream. Even when the sac burst, it was merely the fluid of the sac (from her body), not the harmful substance that deconstructs/reforms DNA. That was inside the 'squid.'

Didn't she rip out her umbilical cord after taking out the squid so they would have mixed blood or at least exchanged substances through the placenta? I didn't really think about how she didn't get infected when I was watching it. I got a bit confused with thinking the ship in Prometheus was the same as the one in Alien but they go to lv-223 in Prometheus not lv-426.

It's the best movie I've seen all year. It's got quite a few flaws and it's not as good as Alien but I still really enjoyed it.

I had a media blackout on it after the first trailer so I don't know how over-hyped it was. It was scarier than Alien to me (neither movie is particularly scarier imo) but I saw Alien a long time after it first came out. Alien isn't one of my favourite films because of the horror. I like it because of the tension building throughout the whole film and because of how visually amazing and well shot it is and Prometheus had a lot of what I liked about Alien. Prometheus' story is it's weakest part but I think it succeeds in almost everything else, albeit to a lesser degree than Alien.

I think I understand. It's because all the motifs and surprises of Alien have seeped into popular media and we've all had alien spoiled for us to one extent or another at this point.

The reason Alien was considered 'scary' was due to the time of its release. It was released in the late 70's. Special effects were pretty shoddy at the time. Today's movies have a crutch of special effects that has desensitized the youth.

Alien was a masterpiece. The soundtrack, the effects, the actors. It changed the genre, and is one of the best science fiction/horror flicks of all time.
