I tried to imitate how I played with Alexei in FM IX which is to be as confusing as possible and try a gambit as if I don't mind drawing attention to myself and looking scummy. It had the potential to work well if I had more time to put into it and it doesn't really help with the low chance of 2 investigators in that PR list where we knew most of the PRs or PR roles within a couple of days.
I tried asking for a cult and mafia alliance on night 1 but I don't think my team were that happy with it because they considered it gamethrowing even if it could give both sides a better chance of winning. If I had been culted (which was never going to happen after day 1) and depending on the game situation I might have told the red mafia that I had been culted so that the cult and mafia could work together to destroy the town and oranges. I would have asked the red maf to let me control the kill in exchange for knowing a few culted members. We could then co-ordinate kills, night actions, strategies and control the vote during the day. Then it would be a matter of who would betray the other first. The cult would probably win but it at least gives the mafia a chance which they wouldn't normally have (culted member is usually game over) and allying should make sure that at least one of the factions.
