    Alternative Jester lynching punishments.

So Jester killing a random guilty voter is cool but I got to thinking about different ways to screw with people that lynch a jester.

First, Maybe the jester can just keep annoying people even after death. It's harmless and gives the jester something to do as he has to stay to the end.

Or, Maybe instead of killing someone, he converts a random guilty voter to Jester. The good news is that guilty voter gets to keep playing, the bad is that it may not be a great punishment because who doesn't want to be a jester.

Another idea, instead of making a guilty voter a Jester, just re-roll them into another role. You could do it based on their invest message and have a Doctor change to an SK or a Godfather turns into a citizen or do it based on a role in the graveyard, or on the role list or completely random. Maybe even an option to not let the person know their role has changed until they've used their ability once.. A doctor would go to heal someone and he stabs them instead.

Instead of role switching, Maybe the jester sometimes caused a guilty voter's abilities to do something different than what it says on the role sheet. Again, A doctor could go to heal his target and stab him, or Bodyguard him, or investigate him. There could be an option to disable killing abilities if needed. I think it'd be interesting to be healing someone and instead of healing it just pops up and says "Your target is not suspicious." Or "You went to kill X." It could easily work the opposite way too. A Mafioso might heal someone instead of kill them.

Alternatively, Instead of just making a person have a chance of performing a random ability, They would add a small chance to screw up their actual ability. A doctor might accidentally kill his target or just fail to heal him if he's attacked, a Vigilante might shoot an innocent bystander, A vet might shoot himself in the foot. A Bus driver might wreck his bus killing himself and everyone on board.. Each role could have their own screw up or share their mistakes with other roles. A Vig or Vet or Mafioso could all easily hurt themselves, an Escort/consort could contract a deadly disease or a Spy/lookout could step on a stick and get seen by the mafia or person they're following. I'm sure we could come up with ways that other roles could screw up. It could be balanced by how often the screw ups occur. Something deadly like a bus crash killing 3 people would have to have a pretty low chance of happening while a Lookout getting seen by the person he was following would have a higher chance of occurring. Settings could make the mistakes repeatable or 1 off events so once they trigger they're sure not to happen again. It'd be real shitty for a Bus Driver to wreck and kill his passengers twice in 1 game but then again it'd be pretty hilarious too.

Anyways, I really just typed this because I needed something Mafia related to do while servers are down. I have no if this shit is worth implementing and I even if it was, there is the whole script limit thing preventing it.

    Good Day.

First, many people actually don't want to be jester, as it can actually be difficult to get lynched, and town is always suspicious of jesters (I won't lie, I use a cheesy tactic myself to get lynched, but it atleast works).

Another problem is that Mafia isn't a game of luck, so the random abilities aren't really good. Luck should never decide the fate of a game.

The role switching is also a bit of a mess, since mafia members often vote guilty to suspicious players, and they are often the ones that suicide, so if a mafia mamber turns to a different role, it can cause chaos among town, while the other mafia members would probably target him down the very same night.

And, I see no use of the annoying after death, if it can make the jester suspicious if a lookout or detective sees him, when he's dead it's just useless.

I dunno, in my opinion these ideas aren't very good, there may be other posssibilities of jester punishment, but I don't know.

Lynching a Jester already triggers a luck role with a random person dying. It doesn't even make a lot of sense sometimes. Why would a Serial Killer suicide over lynching a Jester for instance? Messing up roles, or screwing up someone sounds exactly like something a ghost of a Jester would do. One final supernatural prank on the people that killed him.

As for the first idea to let the Jester keep annoying people, I really only included it because it was the idea that got me thinking about lynching punishments in the first place. One thing it might do is get people to suspect that there is a second jester and could prevent people from becoming lynch happy once they see the Jester dead.

Current random abilities in SC2 Mafia

It's not that random abilities are no good. It's just that time is limited for discussion, and additional randomness will make the game more luck less strategy.

lol, Kaji... I personally like the way it is now with a random suicider, makes me LOL when the Godfather or an important town role suicides because of it.. and people who hate jesters make me laugh even more.. I love pissing people off as the jester... But it would be fun to be able to keep annoying people even after death. :P

The other night I got Jester and randomly accused someone of being the Serial Killer on the second day... the town, being the typical retards that they tend to be, lynched him for me... I was a pretty sad-faced jester when it turned out he really was the Serial Killer.... but I still managed to get myself lynched by trolling other people while claiming to be the sheriff.

Won't that make it easier for Jester to get lynched?

This sounds reasonable, wouldn't affect the game much. At first, might cause some people to think there is a still a Jester alive, for those who don't pay attention to changes in the game.

I like this one. Would kind of suck, but you still have the opportunity to win.

Specifically addressing the GF becoming cit, he could reveal the rest of the mafia and gg.

Kind of an idea I got based on your other ones is for the following night, everyone that voted guilty; their night actions all temporarily, and randomly switch. You don't know what action you perform, and you don't know who performed your action. Just get the screen response the other person would have gotten.
Something to shake it up, but it is only for one night. And, say, a lookout didn't vote guilty, they do their thing, they see someone kill a person. It clears that person of being a killing role.
That's just one way to play with the situation strategically.

It seems that annoying people at all is pointless... and just lets people know a jester exists...

It doesn't matter. That is irrelevant. People will still be more inclined to vote innocent on any player on the stand if they act like a jester just so they can get immunity.
The minds of the people that play this game are......special. Personally, think it's a bad idea and shouldn't be implemented. I like the jester the way it is.

Best way would be to kill ALL people who voted guilty, not just 1 randomly. It would have a far bigger impact on the game to kill a jester then now. Now it's just "oh he was jester, nvm we got still 7 other townies left".

    Re: Alternative Jester lynching punishments.

I like the idea of a jester messing with all the people who voted guilty if he is lynched rather than a random one time kill.

An alternative to the current setup would be as follows. If only one person votes guilty then they randomly target a person each night for the rest of the game (including themselves) and lose control of chat powers but told who they target (jail, vote, and see pms). If at least two, but not the entire living players, votes guilty then the punishment should be to restrict the guilty voters to targeting other guilty voters while at least 2 remain alive. If the entire town votes guilty then they randomly target the next night and told their targets.

The explanations all revolve around insanity. In the first case the player goes insane and permanently loses self control. The second case would be explained by saying that the guilty voters have become insanely paranoid of each other. In the third case the entire town goes insane and temporarily loses self control.

As for the in game mechanics, no matter the number of guilty voters, the guilty voters are punished. The first case results in a player who is permanently crippled yet still alive for the town to single out and make fun of until he dies. The second case makes the guilty voters unable to target people who voted innocent or abstained until all guilty voters are dead. Killing roles would be stuck trying to kill other guilty voters to free themselves. Support and power would be stuck targeting the same people over and over again. Even if jester revealed people would "accidentally" abstain just to lower their chance of being attacked or invested. This would result in some pretty funny situations and the abstainers/innocents could ridicule. The third case would let the joker punish everyone at the same time and the town would simply wallow in its collective shame.

This might seem complex but consider the possible hilarious situations. Suppose the invest and sheriff are the only people left of the guilty voters. To collect new data one of them must but mafia and sk probably won't help them so the town makes a conscious decision to lynch one just to free the other. Or what if the godfather is the only person who votes guilty and randomly kills a person each night, including his teammates. Hell, you could even vote guilty on the jester but use it to lie, for instance claim spy but say you cant can't read pms cause of it or say you are a sheriff but none of the guilty voters are suspicious after 15 nights.
