Ash, you scored points for proving that we are blood relatives. However, let me analyze social progress for you:
-Divorce was illegal until the reign of Henry VIII. Boy, that would fucking suck, not being able to legally leave the bitch who's making your life hell!
-Alcohol was once illegal. Grown men actually voted to ban one of life's escapes. They found a perfect solution: regulate and tax it instead, and nobody complains. Marijuana will receive the same treatment within 10 years.
-Marital rape wasn't actually punishable in court until, like, the 1980's. You could rape your wife, and she'd have no choice but to either stay with you, or leave you. It's not like date rape, where you have no financial ties or children.
-This is a cheapshot: whatever you think of black people, segregation was brutal. Seperate water fountains, bathrooms, etc. You had to sit on the back of the bus. Now, any ethnicity can sit anywhere on the bus. Notice I didn't say NIGGER? I only say nigger when trolling
The number one principle of life I believe in, Ash, is that people should have the right to do whatever they want, as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others. So gay marriage?
I'd say the only way that a married gay couple would oppress you, are the tax benefits of being married. Whether they get tax benefits or not, they have to go through a legal/spiritual procedure in order to acquire them, and they have to stay together in order to keep them. In which case, you should probably be more angry that investors are allowed to get married, as a lot of investors will do anything to avoid taxes, including tax evasion and offshore accounts. That probably harms society more. But that's just my best defense of gay marriage. Plus, I'm a heterosexual and I don't even want to get married, so it's their plunge to me.
I believe in paying taxes, I think people should bitch less about that, and more about what it's being spent on.
