A troll's take on unemployment and suicide in this Recession

(I'm still actively looking for work at the moment. This article reflects how I felt a few months ago, not currently)

Remember the beginning of Occupy Wall Street? It started a national dialogue (at the very least), and even Herman Cain decided to voice his opinion.

"If you're poor and have no job, it's your own fault." I'm pretty sure he lost a few million votes there, since there are millions of Americans living below the poverty line. Although I think what he WISH he could've added (but would have been further political suicide), would be: "...and you should kill yourself."

I call it the "shrug". It's called shirking social responsibility. When you don't know what to say to someone you have no real power to help, you just shrug your shoulders, and let them figure it out on their own. I read awhile ago about this elderly woman who was going through a foreclosure, and deputies were on their way to evict her. She shot herself in the heart, but they were able to get her to hospital and stabilize her. Now, in MY mind, I'm thinking WTFF??? You were just about to kick this woman out of her house, and she's bleeding to death when you find her. Put 2 + 2 together, and common sense would say "Let her go, she has no hope left." No, they insisted on making sure she got better again, so they can kick her ass onto the street again. Only in America.

Now one more thing: the Recession isn't just about foreclosures. The Recession is one shitty historical period where all forces of monetary evil converge to fuck you in the ass. In 2009, this dude went into the Workers Safety and Insurance Board (Canada), the government agency who's supposed to pay you when you're injured on the job, fucked this guy over like they've done to many. So he decided "Fuck it", and brought in a shotgun and did a John Q.

It had a bad ending. He surrendered, nobody (innocent, of course) died, and they simply tightened security and forgot about the reasons he did it. This is why the government is cowardly: they just want to resolve a tense situation, they really don't care about fixing it over the long-term. That's why cops still have jobs, and everyone else is losing theirs.

The problem is with money itself. Did you know that if we got rid of EVERYONE'S debt (countries, individuals, families, etc), there would not be ONE DOLLAR IN CIRCULATION!

Money = debt. So I 100% agree with PERSONAL debt reduction. It makes you think about how the government is imposing their debt onto American citizens.

Take a look at "Debt per taxpayer". No, that doesn't count their credit card/mortgage debt. That's what the fucking government owes, and expects the taxpayer to pay back. Fucking assholes.

It's good for the citizens to spend money to help the economy. Not for the government to overspend and drive the nation into debt.
And I'm sure the US can get enough money from taxing is citizens, our economy was pretty good, but if you waste the money and spend money we don't have, you get the situation we are in.

Everyone has their own solution and beliefs, to each his own. But I know that I can't spend money I don't have without repercussions.

yeah if everyone in the usa just ordered a new credit card with 5k limit then the economy would be gangbusters!!!11111!!11!1!!
fact is US economy is stuffed because so many manufacturing (and increasingly service) jobs went offshore mostly to china
last major fatality i heard about was the GE X-Ray division which moved to china maybe 6 weeks ago

    DANGER! DANGER!

You know this pathetic class war we're in, how the government has us engineered to hate eachother? One of the favorite tactics to punish those who have personal debt is "You signed the dotted line, it's your own fault."

I just wish governments would be as accountable as they expect their citizens to be. We have to take care of our own personal debt, but we're also legally obligated to take care of THEIRS, too?!?!

he's made some good points here , lets face it the US is bankrupt and the sooner it declares bankruptcy and cancels the debt burden the sooner the economy will get back on track.US has no way of paying back 15 trill (actually 55 trill with added medicare + SS liabilities) end of story.

Re: A troll's take on unemployment and suicide in this Recession

I didn't get the job after the interview, they chose someone else. But you know, that's okay. I do have self-interest, but I know there are dudes who have children to feed who need jobs more. But at this point in history is where humanity is most divided, especially in North America. We are engaged in the biggest class war of history, probably. The employed hating people on welfare, which includes me, as if you've ever worked a day in your life - the government says "Get back to work, so you can pay the lazy bums who have never worked!" The Democrats hate Republicans. Pedestrians hate the Occupy camps, even though they're doing more than the Tea Party movement EVER did.

Then government decides to sack public sector jobs. But they decide to sack the positions that help the affected population, like half the staff at Service Canada, while voting to give themselves bigger pensions. They call the police to deal with any problems they don't want to face personally, like having to evict people, crushing demonstrations, etc. I'm waiting for the day they start firing cops. Maybe then police will show some solidarity with the people they're supposed to PROTECT!

Even my own family. Everyone in my family is employed at the moment except me, good for them. But my personal unemployment situation has affected both my parents, and it's nice that they care, but at the same time, they give shitty job-hunting advice (I already have applications I'm handing out today).

My mom actually said I don't deserve employment insurance because I left my last job voluntarily. However, (Trollzor will love this one), she ACTUALLY SUGGESTED that I go see a doctor to "get a diagnosis" to see if there are any benefits I can receive from a diagnosis. I argued with her, and told her she's a flaming hypocrite. She said that money I paid into (EI) I shouldn't be entitled to, but I should fraud the welfare system by pretending to be disabled, when I have a high IQ, perfect motor dexterity, and legs that work.

My dad's opinion is, even if the employer says "NO PHONE CALLS" or "We thank all applicants for their interest, unfortunately, only those selected for an interview will be contacted", he thinks I should sabotage any chance I have and call them anyway. So the employer then thinks "Well this fucking idiot can't follow simple directions, fuck him." My dad would drive through a brick wall, he doesn't recognize obstacles of life.

He then suggested that I work with him in Chicago at his landscaping business. First of all, he bitches about how shitty Chicago is all the time. AMERICANS, here is my dad's brilliant suggestion:

-I fly down to Chicago and live with him for the season
-I don't pay taxes on my income, and have my cheques cashed, so that if I earn $570, they take $70 as a fee.
-He would apply to get me a green card (it would take a fucking long time)
-I would become a Canadian illegal immigrant.

Nevertheless, I didn't have to say "You're an idiot."

You should find a side business to tide you over until the economy picks up a little.
I'm working full time but i also had a saturday job until a few months back. Was there 6 years and they let me go with a snap of the fingers , thats the way it is almost everywhere now no loyalty or thanks.
Anyway i was missing the extra 100 bucks or so a week i got there.

Long story short i picked up a cheap metal detector for like 150 bucks on ebay and started scouring local parks beaches etc for coins and gold/silver jewellery.Gold and silver prices are way higher than they were 10 years ago also coins on or before 1964 have silver in them so are worth far more than face value.Gold ring might be a couple hundred bucks or more depending on the carat , more if diamonds etc.

Re: A troll's take on unemployment and suicide in this Recession

Good idea about the metal-detector, who knows what kinda shit you could find? My only major skill is gardening and hydroponics, and no, growing marijuana is not a viable option with Bill C-15 being passed, as I would spend 7 years in prison MINIMUM if caught. I made a bottle of REALLY HOT sauce with one Naga Jolokia plant, however. First actual product I made from my plants . Hydroponics only costs $10 a month in electrical cost, but I'm still working out the the pest problems. Right now, it's not running.

I laugh openly at people I know who says I should start a farm. They know somewhere in their stupid brain how impossible that is at the moment:

-the fucking bank won't even let me consolidate two credit cards, why would they lend me money? LOL
-me and my mom have to share the space we have in our small garden, and it would be unreasonable for me to demand that she sacrifices some of her perennials
-I'm still in training mode, so even if I did start a farm, 60-75% of the crop would be viable as I am still learning pest-control methods, and learning about the chemical composition of fertilizers

Basically this year, if I can produce baskets of tomatoes, I'm set for the future. My green thumb has almost fully developed.

However, the most profitable venture would be doing 16 Naga Jolokia plants, and making hot sauce, or selling them as-is. They sell on Ebay for $5 for 3 peppers, I believe. It's the hottest pepper in the world at 1,000,000 Scoville Heat Units (Jalapenos = 5,000).
