> I mean, what is “living up to your values” worth, compared to selling guns, peddling drugs, and toppling other governments?
Selling guns:

Toppling governments and bungling middle-east policy:

Because every one has to be perfect? Obama completely bungled and exacerbated the middle east situation and the Iran Deal only helped subsidize Iranian aggression in the region (guess who was nominated twice for Nobel Peace Prizes for contracting peace there...). Gandhi has some of the strangest sexual relations, and was arguably somewhat racist (at least early on). Bill Clinton had it too (but was impeached for perjury) and arguably may have been overbearing with his anti-crime policy. Mother Teresa said that suffering is a gift, as Jesus himself did suffer, and used faith to rationalize some pretty whack acts. Yet some of these figureheads are the most influential people ever to grace the Earth. We can criticize individuals for what they did wrong but frankly darling if you think people are one dimensional its probably time to realize that not everyone is as one dimensional as you.
