I am surprised at how much negativity there is in this thread. I myself expressed concerns before that our community was too toxic for new players to stay (IE: Getting accused of game throwing and bashed repeatedly and threatened to be reported for just making a noob mistake).

But as far as I can tell, at least the Arcade game sc2mafia, maybe not the forum game IDK, has been getting more popular and more active over the past few months consistently. I would compare this community now to that of Jedi Knight Academy: Movie Battles II.
If you look that up, it's another game mod based community that has been around since the early 2000s. It is not that big but at the same time, games are always populated because most of the community plays the game every day for hours on end.

Similar to the way the sc2 arcade mafia has now become with Skwirl, Movie Battles 2 has 1 main clan, Angels of Death, which most of the community is centered on. A decent chunk of the community is in AOD, then about as many players vehemently hate AOD and create their own tiny 2-5 person clans in "rebellion" against AOD, and then there are the few people not aligned. (there's even a jaded EU group that is upset that nobody plays on their servers anymore and they have to play on NA).

We seem to have the same dynamic now with Skwirl, and I think it is a really positive thing for this game because now there is an actual active community. Before, I think very few players knew each other outside of the super OG mafia vets who have been around forever. We had a community, yes, but not a very active or social one. I mean, from my own experience I have played this game off and on (and during the on periods, fairly actively) ever since the mod first came out on StarCraft 2, but I don't think a single person would've recognized the name Aamirus and had any reaction to it before Distorted created the Skwirl discord.

What Distorted has done somehow is allow the awkward nerds of SC2mafia to connect with each other and become friends, both those in the Skwirl clan and those who hate the Skwirl clan. Our game has a real sense of community now and I think that bodes very well for the future of the game.

In my opinion, sc2 mafia is on the rise, and not dying at all.

(I would like to reiterate all of my comments are based off of solely playing the SC2 game and not the forum game)
