    Part 8: Mongu, Zambia

The Cylons were created to make life easier on the Twelve Colonies. And then the day came when the Cylons decided to kill their masters. After a long and bloody struggle, an armistice was declared and the Cylons left for another world to call their own.

Forty years later, they returned, and brought humanity to the brink of extinction. The remaining humans, led by the crew of the Battlestar Galactica, fled in hopes of finding a new home, one known by legend as Earth.

Humanity’s only hope lies in finding Earth’s location while fighting off the unrelenting Cylons. But as resources run low, it is discovered that the enemy can now appear human and has infiltrated the fleet from the inside.

    Re: Part 8: Mongu, Zambia

    Crisis Phase - Mongu, Zambia

With the fleet running dangerously low on Food, Water, and Morale, the Battlestar Galactica was in crisis mode.

"We've got to find Earth, and fast," FM Laura Roslin said to FM Tom Zarek. "I don't know if we can last much longer without resorting to cannibalism."

FM Tom Zarek replied, "I spoke to FM Saul Tigh, and things look bad. There were cylons waiting for us at this location, too. It's like they know where we're heading. It's like they have spies on the inside."

"Well let's hope FM Gaius Baltar and the other members of the fleet have more luck solving this puzzle," FM Laura Roslin said.

"So say we all," FM Tom Zarek and FM Laura Roslin mumbled hopelessly.

    ...

FM Starbuck retrieved the next puzzle, floating in a small canister outside. It appeared to a series of math problems...

FM Gaius Baltar announced: "We must solve this puzzle, or else the human race will die out! There are simply not enough resources to run my supercomputer to solve any more puzzles. We NEED to divert all resources towards our survival. I believe we are looking for a series of 17 letters that do not have to make much sense in sequence. They should, however, be derived from the 17 equations given. I will let you know if you are on track and if any of the letters in your proposed solutions seem to be correct."

The setup phase has been skipped for this cycle.
Heavy raiders carrying a cylon raiding party have been launched toward the fleet. The 48 hour puzzle for this part must be solved in 24 hours.

Remember these updates to the rules:
    1. Crisis phases will be ~72 hours with pre-set-hints coming out every ~24 hours. Each pre-set-hint will cost the fleet 2 morale, 2 food, and 2 water.

    2. If the answers provided in some of the pre-set-hints have been posted in daychat, then no resources are deducted from the fleet and the player who posted the solution will have the option to choose to regain +1 of any resource.

    3. If a cylon PMs me with parts of the puzzle solution that are to be revealed in pre-set-hints before it is posted in daychat, the cylon will gain a charge of his ability to remove 24 hours from the upcoming crisis phase. Cylons can store up to 2 charges at a time, and a maximum of 48 hours may be removed from each crisis phase.

    4. If a cylon -reveals as a cylon at the end of a setup phase (and he is not in the brig), he will gain an automatic +2 charge of the ability listed above in addition to entering a private chat with other cylons.

    5. Not solving a puzzle will result in a -5 to morale, -4 to food, and -4 to water.
This crisis phase will last ~24 hours with pre-set hints set to trigger approximately every 24 hours.

    Oh, hello there!
I'm the President of this fine ship! This over there is my trusty Admiral Combo. Welcome aboard (to those I haven't greeted yet). I'd love to spend more time with you and give you directions. But I am terribly preoccupied planning my next att... erm... defense against the cylons. Couldn't do much else the past few days ever since that M'bour incident where everything went downhill. Those cylon buggers just won't leave us alone and seem to know of our every step. Curious how they got into our lines of communication.
Well, carry on my dears. Remember that this is humanities last shot at survival. Everyone relies on you!

    You can do it!

    so maybe 1 and 3 are 16=P (16th letter in alphabet), 5 is B
This is on the right track, although I need to edit lines 1 and 3 since they have an error x_____x

You don't need the answers to the first and third equations to solve any of the other equations. I should have them posted by the time you guys finish solving the other ones.

    Re: Part 8: Mongu, Zambia

In case I wasn't obvious enough: I am Cylon! I sabotaged the fleet from the moment that I realized my true calling. It was the M'bour incident. I recall it vividly. We flew around, never had problems with any cylons. The progress on our search for earth was steady and effective. But after I awakened and remembered what kind of monsters humans are, the decision was simple. I sent our current position and our planned one after the jump to the cylon fleet. The resulting chaos would solidify my position and I would make sure that everything on board went the right path... to human extinction. Mendoza, Malmesbury, Mongu; I had my fingers in all of those. The slow progress, the waste of resources, the cylon attacks, everything. But here I am now. Smiling and gazing upon the path I paved. Human eradication... I does have a nice ring to it.
And now go! Put your heads together and follow me on the path I created!

    Re: Part 8: Mongu, Zambia

well it sux if host doesn't come online and say whether i'm on the right track or not

i've found out that part 7 has 17 languages. maybe it has something to do with it
also if you draw lines from all locations you receive greek capital letter sigma which could mean sum or alphabet

    the translation says:
Use this area to cook recipe

the area is pretty much the atlantic ocean

    the recipe so far:
    add egg beef cabbage
    breadcrumbs and onion
    milk, mustard and ketchup
    salt n pepper n sugar
    stirs and put in oven
    nsaythemagicwords

    maybe this helps us

    Re: Part 8: Mongu, Zambia

well since host doesn't confirm or deny my track i just have to try it, here is what i got

    2) 1
    3) hex 16
    4) 6x+8-13=5x+9 14
    5) binary 2
    6) 2x+14+8=3x+7 15
    (x+12)*(3x)=4x^2+12x 3x^2+36x=4x^2+12x 24x=x^2 24
    10) 24+x+23=22+2x 25

the number is the value of x, x is the basis. then you take the correspondending alphabet letter. i don't need to do all of them right if that is correct

    Re: Part 8: Mongu, Zambia

    Solution:

These equations seem to not make sense, but that’s because they are not written in base 10. By finding the base that each equation is written in and converting the number with a simple alphabetical substitution, you get the final part of the recipe.

    w Base 23
    a Base 1
    k Base 11
    n Base 14
    b Base 2
    o Base 15
    d Base 4
    x Base 24
    t Base 20
    z Base 26
    y Base 25
    x Base 24
    d Base 4
    j Base 10
    n Base 14
    n Base 14
    l Base 12

I'll consider Cafarelli's solution [latex]\frac{5}{17}% complete, -1.2 food, -1.2 water, -1.5 morale... Unfortunately this is enough for the humans to run out of resources.
