i thought this would add another dimension to the thought process of townies when comparing the process of elimination from the role list with claimed roles.
Role name: Deceiver
Description: A retired investigator, you collaborate with the mafia and steal evidence from others to use it to deceive.
Alignment: Mafia
Abilities:
-Visit one person at night to steal evidence. If you die during that same night or any time from then on, your role upon death will be displayed as that persons role.
-You can choose a new target each night if you wish. If you dont, you will consist to use the evidence stolen from your most recent target.
-If your target dies before you pick another target at night OR if your target dies the same night you do, your role as deceiver will be revealed upon death.
-If you are executed in a jail cell, your true role as deceiver will be revealed upon death EVEN if you have an active target covering for you
-You can target your mafia teammates
-You become the Godfather if there are no kill-capable roles remaining.*
-If you become the Godfather, your most recent target will remain targeted, however you cannot pick another target if your current target dies.**
Win Condition: Mafia win condition
Host Options:
-Becomes Godfather if there are no kill-capable roles left*
-Most recent target carries over after Godfather conversion**
-Limited to 1 retarget***
-Limited to 2 retargets***
Pros:
-Has the potential to easily confuse town
-Can tinker with logic linked with role list (as stated in my introduction)
-Role fits really well with a consigliere in the group (i.e., consig finds that john is an escort, deceiver targets john, when put on trial deceiver can call an exact role, escort, making him seem more legit)
Cons:
-Can be limited to a certain number of retargets (host option)
-Can only steal from roles that are alive at that moment
-If target dies at night, your true role is vulnerable the following day if you are lynched
-Even if your role is covered up when you die, mafia still loses a member (town doesnt know this)
-If your role upon death is cultist or mason, then cults or masons will know that you were never a mason and was a deceiver.
Overall effect on the metagame if implemented:
No practical game mechanic is altered other than deceiving logic and even sometimes, proving legit investigative roles wrong...
...for example:
bob(sheriff): im sheriff, jack is mafia
jack(deceiver): what! im not mafia i'm with town!
*town lynches jack, his role upon death appears to be his targets role, a town role*
Town: bob probably isnt sheriff, lets lynch him tomorrow
*the legit sheriff is now falsely accused by town*
Additional comments:
-Deceiver is a unique role (like Godfather, Mason Leader, Mayor), there can be no more than 1 deciever per game (amnesiac cannot become a dead deceiver)
-Investigator's message: "Your target is good at forgery. He is probably a framer, but could possibly be a deceiver" or something like so
-I added jailing execution breaking through the deceived role just to add a little counter for deceiver, incase it was a bit too OP
*Ability must be enabled by host for it to be an ability
**Ability must be enabled by host for it to be an ability. This host option can ONLY be enabled if the one above it is enabled too.
***Retargets count as how many times the deciever can pick a new target AFTER already having one picked, not how many target picks he gets overall. If the host doesnt pick either 1 or 2, the deceiver gets unlimited retargets.
