In this case, "Judge" would be a more approriate role name.

A lawyer does not produce false evidence and framer is on a fixed investigation result, unless a reveal option is added.

A judge needs hard evidence first before judging a verdict of a trial.

However in this trial, providing evidence are text based and not concreate. Someone faking sheriff is consindered false evidence or true evidence, visa versa to a real sheriff.

No evidence is actually "hard evidence", since all 14 other players can fake it just as easily as the rest. The only way to make it hard evidence is include your Last Will togheter with a -Suicide for a Role Reveal.

what about... at night he selects a target... that target can then not be put on trial (or lynched if no trial)? this wouldn't be clear until the voting was counted...
example:

1. Lawyer visit Sheriff at night
2. the following day an Executioner convinces the town to vote the Sheriff to trial (or lynch)
3. the town start to vote the Sheriff
4. enough votes to get the Sheriff on trial is achieved
5. a message is displayed for all players (similarly to Mayor reveal)
6. "A Lawyer protects (name) from being trialed/lynched"
7. all votes are removed from the Sheriff and voting continues

would make the role useful in games with no trial... and it's something somewhat new...
maybe it's be better as an evil role... i don't know...
it also give people they're beloved night-clicky-buttons...
Lawyer can stay hidden till someone protected is (attemptedly) put on trial...
no long text commands we have to remember! (i am dyslexic... so big help for me)
makes you have to know who you want to protect ahead of time...

yeah maybe...
options similar to Janitor... allow for unlimited if host want it... or limit to 2-4 uses

A game with no trial?

Has there ever been a game with no trial?

it's rare... but having a role that only work if there is trial would be silly
