Hello everyone... I get high alot. And I have decided that I want the Zombie Apocalypse to be real. In preparation for my wish come true, I have devised a few exit strategies to safely allow me passage and harbor within the new world I am envisioning. Here are a few of my scenarios :
1. If the power is still on.
I will be migrating to Ogden Utah, deep in the mountains. I will scavenge all non-perishable foods (aka canned foods, chips, etc) and attempt to be close to a Home Depot or something similar. I'll be looking to find re-enforced steel about 1 1/2 in. depth, 2ft wide, 4ft tall. I would then get full on auto body welding kit and start welding the entire exterior of a manor style house in Ogden (obviously clearing this house first.) I would then setup mines, in front of a hand dug mote, in front of a 8ft tall electrified fence, either borrowed from the zoo in Salt Lake City, or home made with batteries and generators. After securing my fortress safely I would be able to start a-new.
2. If the power is off
This is a bad situation. With the power off gas is extremely difficult to get without a tanker truck. You'd have trouble getting far, plus night time would be extremely dangerous. You would need to act quickly, and grab as much non perishable food as possible. My goal in this scenario is to scavenge my way up. Barricade myself somewhere secure, such as a large high rise building, on one of the higher floors. From there on out secure the vulnerabilities, while constantly watching for signs of whats happening outside. Hopefully I grabbed enough food for approximately 2 months, which by then I would assume I could start stealth missions to get goods, guns, and gas / generator(s). A large problem with this method is Gas will only survive for approximately 1 year after it has been made. It gets "goopy" or thick and unusable after that. So You would have to gain the gas and generators for the upcoming 6 months. From this 6 months, my goal would be to salvage and build. I would secure parts of the complex I am already staying in, to work on cars and safe travel style vehicles. From here I would learn all about gas... how it's made, how the oil is drilled, how the machines used to drill oil are serviced... etc etc etc. I would attempt to learn all about making gasoline. I would then find myself the best place TO make gasoline (examples being Canada) and secure my passage there. If I made this trip... I would then have the ability to make a shelter, with all the amenities necessary, with an unlimited supply of gasoline. With this unlimited supply of fuel, I will attempt to learn everything I will need to know to survive and support myself, including mostly maintenance related education since maintaining the generators and stability of the fortress would be top priority for safe nights.
Either way, end plans
I would attempt to survive as many years as possible obviously. The first place I would visit other than home improvement stores, grocery stores, and gas stations, would be Libraries. The world has so many things that you could use... if you knew how to use them, and fix them. Book knowledge would be a must to survive any great length of time. Out-door survival is only so protected...
More so, I would visit Army bases, areas that seem to have alot less zombies... try and find people. In this scenario I feel people will hurt you more in the beginning than if you were already self established.. and for that reason I would attempt to stay alone at first... But after the initial shock, and the recovery I would be planning, I am sure I could find and secure a facility that would be suitable to re-set the natural order. Army facilities are meant to keep people out, so if you can figure out a way in... you can re-establish it's ability to keep unwanted shit out. The other benefit of a facility like this would be the high expectancy for multiple already setup generators, with service manuals somewhere on premises to learn from.
If I were to survive, and find more people, the new goal would be to obviously attempt to re-establish human control over the world. This would take more than my life time to establish, but I feel with the right tools and will power you could push defenses offensively, such as tar traps, mines, nets, 10 foot trap doors, and fences. If the disease was not air born, and the dead were still somehow able to survive past a humans normal life expectancy (nutrition, organ health wise) then you could assume you have a huge up-hill battle to face. If the disease was air born the world would turn into a nasty place when it comes to death. Bodies would have to be burned, and shot in the head at any time of death. In a situation like this I don't see anything surviving.
These are just a few examples of what I have thought of. Obviously I haven't written everything out, but you are more than welcome to expand, critique, or even write your own idea of how to do this. This is the kind of stuff I would live for, survival related living.
EDIT : RULES AND TIPS TO FOLLOW
First Things First
-Zombies are the living dead, returned to life through a Virus, that is spread through fluid transfer.
-ANY injury results in full infection, death and reanimation are imminent. SURVIVAL Is your Number One priority.
KNOW YOUR ENEMY
-Are your Zombies fast? Slow? Smart? Feral?
-To kill a zombie you must destroy the brain.
-How many are in your area? Are you in a city? Small town?
WEAPONRY
-Weapon number one is your body, make sure it is in tip top shape.
-Weaponry needs to be able to incapacitate {Ideally kill} a zombie in one quick assault.
-There are pros and cons to each weapon, make sure you take each of these into account when building your arsenal.
-Your wardrobe is your armor. No loose clothing or long hair, Keep it close.
Your Arsenal
-Determine your attack plan: Survive, escape, rescue, etc. Your Weaponry needs to be as aggressive as your plan.
-Melee (Close Combat) Weapons need to be easily handled while still dealing maximum damage.
-Ranged Weapons should be firearms, they deal the most damage, and should be well maintained.
-FIRE is king, it is the only sure fire way to destroy a zombie entirely.
General Survival
-Noise will alert zombies to your location. Being quiet will keep you alive.
-Always have an escape plan. Wherever you are know how to get out.
-Hospitals are an awful place to get caught. The sick will go here first, avoid at all costs.
Survival strategies
-You last as long as your supplies, so stock up on nonperishable’s fast.
-Size of outbreak determines best locations for survival, The larger the outbreak the more help you will need for survival.
-Basic home security items will aid in survival.
-Alarms, must be set up. They will be your advance warning for an inevitable siege.
-This is the easiest way to survive if you are alone, the other strategies are better for groups.
Escape Strategies
-Take only the most important items, you can’t take everything for every situation.
-Mobility is your best weapon in an escape strategy. Stealth and awareness are next on the list.
-Know where you are going, make sure you know how to get there.
-Urban areas are deadly, stay quiet and stay hidden.
-Cars, of all sorts, are inefficient and not mobile enough for escape. If long distance travel is necessary, motorcycles or horses are the best.
Attack Strategies
-This strategy is NOT recommended. You need several groups (5-10), of at least 10 people, for this to be viable.
-Intelligence is your greatest weapon. Do not fight large groups, do not go out alone.
-Be prepared for secondary waves after clearing your primary target. Zombies will likely be attracted to all of your noise.
