Yeah, you make a ton of sense.
A small addition to what you said: one other reason for why Hamas are called terrorists is their first and primary stated goal - "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it."
(though for most people it's enough that there's a section for "Torture and mutilation" on this conflict's Wiki)
Btw, looking at why Holy Land is significant to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - I saw this quote from the Quran: "O my people! Enter the holy land which Allah hath assigned unto you, and turn not back ignominiously, for then will ye be overthrown, to your own ruin"
Depending on how serious they are about their religion, I feel like this could make a war over Israel inevitable?

I'm having trouble understanding this conflict.
This is what I gather so far:

The Balfour Declaration: a public statement issued by the British government in 1917 during the First World War announcing support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine (Region, not country. Both: todays "State of Palestine" and "State of Israel".).

On 14 May 1948 the Jewish People's Council gathered and proclaimed the establishment of a Jewish state to be known as the State of Israel.

Immediately following the declaration of the new state, US President Harry S. Truman and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin recognized the new state.

State of Israel occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in the Six-Day War of 1967.

On 28 October 1974, the 1974 Arab League summit held in Rabat, reaffirmed the right for the people of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to establish an independent state.

The Palestinian Declaration of Independence formally established the State of Palestine on 15 November 1988.

The State of Palestine is a de jure sovereign state, recognized by 139 UN member states, in the Middle East consisting of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The State of Palestine is a de facto occupied by State of Israel since aforementioned 1967.

Hamas was founded after the "First Intifada", which was a protest by Palestinians in Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories. (1987–1993)

On Saturday 7 October 2023 (a Sabbath day and date of several Jewish holidays Hamas began its offensive - which it named "Operation Al Aqsa Storm".

The rest is ongoing conflict. So far there's about 5 times more Palestinians dead than Israelis, but the Palestinians tend to use more ungentlemanly warfare.
I don't wish to attempt wrapping my head around how did it come to a sovereign state being inside another sovereign state, with different religions no less.
What I am interested in, and what I don't understand:
- why doesn't State of Israel just stop occupying the territories of State of Palestine?
- are they actually occupying them still? all sources say they are, but why would Hamas attack Israelis outside of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip?
- if they are, why are Hamas labeled as "Terrorists" by all our media [BLACKOUT](other than their ungentlemanly warfare)[/BLACKOUT] if all they do is fight for their independence? Independence that's recognized by 139 UN states no less.

Also, we already kinda talked a bit on discord lol but I don't understand the "speaking of which, would MM fall my case..." part. I looked up "fall" in the dictionary just in case, and found nothing. Perhaps I'm blind or it's some kind of language barrier o.O
I wanted re-post my thoughts in the thread.
It's possible the expression I used was American English and that's why it could be unfamiliar to some :cheesy:

Is the question subjective in nature? It feels like such.
How much are you willing to accept or what falls under "intellectual curiosity"? I have trouble distinguishing it from "any curiosity", in which case it'd always be present.
I want to address the fostering side of the topic instead, that part is more interesting to me because it reminds me of something.
You know what is funny? I mean actual "funny" and what that is in our brain? We laugh when something goes not the way our brain expected it to (similarly to when someone's being tickled and their laughter is new brain pathways forming as they learn to defend themselves). This short video explains better than I could anyways: https://youtu.be/ddV6jyDeCKA?si=ZmaIiRxEanqTIBbe
It's similar to what Martin said in that this "what we find funny" business is centered around our brains learning new ways to predict the world, which isn't much different from saying that our brains crave certainty.
I think we can all intuitively see the connection this has to Mafia in particular, right? Although I can't put it into words.
It's like: someone flipping different alignment than you thought they would gives your brain dopamine, just not so much as to laugh but rather more similar to learning new skill from playing game. [BLACKOUT](I feel like this makes more sense in my brain than on paper? :wondering:)[/BLACKOUT]
Can I ask you guys something? I'd think that in this sort of topic the first thing everyone challenges the question to is themselves: "Is it the case for ME?". Instead I see the posts talking about people in general. Why is that?
Speaking of which, would MM fall my case under "intellectual curiosity"? I seem to have an annual wish for a reality check. I know how bad I am at FM and all that, but once in a while I'm like "I can TOTALLY be good at the game!", so I go in a FM game and get brought right back down to reality. That's my thing. I don't know why I love the realization of "Ohh my god, I suck so much at this!", but I do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Martin, I wanted to leave this comment for after the game but I think it's fitting for the game now.
I can see that when I asked you about something that you didn't write, you felt like I didn't understand you - kept reitterating what you said while commenting on how either I don't understand what you said or how we've different views. (Seems like a relatively common thing in FM tbh.)
In the future, in similar situations with you - I'll do my best to first repeat what you said so that you can see you were not not understood and can answer to the questions given.
However (and this comes from the heart, I assure you), I have an idea that I want to pitch to you and I hope you'll consider it:
Whenever you'll be in a similar situation with someone (someone's asking you about things that you didn't say and you feel like you were not understood) who's not me, you can answer the question and then ask for them to tell if they understood the point of your post. Thereby making the interaction a mutual benefit instead of mutual loathing.
Today, I'll go with the assumption that arrogance = town and not vote you most probably.
But plz don't say "he's going out of his way to butt heads with mine" in the same breath you say "I didn't read any of the post before this quote"; especially when I went to such a length to analyze your interactions with loldebite and everything you said.
loldebite, the action was self-pres due to the 2nd reason you stated: "would rather spend my precious posts reacting to other people's, because it was quite obvious that I'd be under the most cautious scrutiny."
Frinckles, no. Calling me obtuse and pushing my slot are not one and the same.
Don't call people obtuse dude. It's no different from stupid, dumb, retarded. They're all synonyms.
Renegade, I won't vote Frinckles. He has been like this every game so far, and he has always been Town. I rather play the game than random lynch less active slots, ty.
Whaaat, you NEVER used autosave?? EVER??? That's like the bestest most amazingerest feature ever. You type half of a post, close your window, and it's (mostly) there when you come back (usually) if you click "Restore Auto-Saved Content", a little box that appears in the bottom left corner of the place you write in. I could not live without autosave lol.
Frinckles would be my top townread if it weren't for the weird Stealth stuff. And now, Renegade is sort of implying he has meta evidence that my meta read on Frinckles is wrong, so I'm waiting on that as well. Also, "top 2 townread" is a pretty bad way to state this, to the point I'm not sure you're honest lol. I literally put "Noone's in the very towny light green category because noone is really that towny", making "top 2 townread" pretty meaningless.
I do not understand this line lol.
I'm not weird, I am SPECIAL! 8)
How do you enable it? 0.o
I mean, you made a reads list, from top to bottom, greenest to reddest, "Town" icon to "Mafia" icon, and frinckles was your 2nd from the top. Idk how can there be ambiguity in such a list tbh :cheesy:
If you want to be so obtuse, that can be applied to you as well. That entire mutliquote is fluff at best and spewing MM town at worst.
So we can do Ozy v MM unless somebody has a better idea.

I'm not acting obtuse, stupid, retarded, dumb.
I am obtuse, stupid, retarded, dumb.
Some of us actually play the game, and it sometimes involves asking questions and stating your confusions.
Instead of going out of your way to call me obtuse, why not help the game solving process and say what I'm missing?
I don't mean this is a joke when I now say, I'm not looking forward to playing with you again. Like this is beyond belief. Your first actual real game post was like Day2 adressing people's thoughts on your SB16 vote, yet you go out of your way to call other people who play the game obtuse without even attempting the process in any way - just make a comment to insult.
Like just let me play the game please? If you don't play why go out of your way to insult others "lol you're retarded here"? Un-fucking-cool mate.
Ftr, it wasn't a multiquote, it was 1 quote with Quote Breaks.
If we're both town I'm quite concerned for all future games where we're both town, considering the differences in viewpoints we seem to continually have.
The difference is that Loldebite wouldn't have said anything about the kill were it not for Norwee's post.....which he quoted three times to say three separate things.
I take it that you don't think this is even a difference at all?
Loldebite's opener would had been, like you said: "If loldebite had been the first to post on d2, it would've been a one-liner.", yes.
But my question wasn't about loldebite. I understand fully what you said. My question was, why didn't Norwees opener deserve the same treatment? If loldebite's nothing-opener deserved a notice, why didn't Norwee's?
The answer is mainly irrelevant now. My focus back then was on trying to figure out wether wolves attack the SB16 wagon or town do. But please try to read my questions more carefully in the future, it's wasting posts :wondering:
oh ozy look another post where martin doesn't interact with MM
Do you honestly believe it's not game relevant to point out that 2 slots never addressed each other, only chainsaw defended; especially when one of the main possibilities were "if wolves attack SB16 wagon, it's these 2 slots"?
No need to be passive aggressive here.

the bestest most amazingerest feature ever.
I'm not weird, I am
SPECIAL!
How do you enable it?
I mean, you made a reads list, from top to bottom, greenest to reddest, "Town" icon to "Mafia" icon, and frinckles was your 2nd from the top. Idk how can there be ambiguity in such a list tbh

But please try to read my questions more carefully in the future, it's wasting posts

Do you honestly believe it's not game relevant to point out that 2 slots never addressed each other, only chainsaw defended; especially when one of the main possibilities were "if wolves attack SB16 wagon, it's these 2 slots"?
No need to be passive aggressive here.
