I think the journalist is a good role and would love to see it in future games. It's pretty much just a super citizen, but there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Mechanicly, the journalist is a sound role. However in practice it just isn't all that interesting, I feel it would be much more interesting as a mechanic that say picks a random power role (including neutrals/mafias) and allows them to write an article for the newspaper, or just one newspaper and several articles in that newspaper that are completely anonymous to be revealed at the start of each day.

It's rather boring for the user to just pick a person and hope that the target has something worth saying, what IS interesting is actually writing the document and hoping it has your desired effect, by taking out the boring part you have something that is truely interesting. Hopefully anyways.....

So I was thinking while I was walking the dog. I had this brilliant idea for FM anonymous names. The idea goes like this: each name is closely related to one player in forum mafia. Some examples could be these:

MileS -> KilometerS
Philie -> Filly
Yayap -> Yipyap
Zack -> Zombie (like in World War Z)
Goonswarm -> Forever a Goon
oops_ur_dead -> on_purpose
Elixir -> Poison
Zane -> Insane
SimpleFigment -> Complicated

and so on

This would be really fun because each of these people have personalities that would add another element to the game.
