I used to complain about "summerfags noobing my games up" but honestly there is a much worse problem at the heart of sc2 mafia. Pretty much that I believe this night-action-centric meta, where everyone is a power role and games end by night 5 CAUSE PEOPLE TO PLAY LIKE NOOBS, AND NEVER LEARN.
I am seeing a lot of the same players in games over and over again, and they never really seem to learn how to actually play mafia. When I say play mafia I don't mean "AFK THEN USE NIGHT ACTION" or even "USE NIGHT ACTION STRATEGICALLY BASED ON DAY CHAT THEN VOTE WHOEVER INVEST CLAIMS TELL U TO VOTE", I mean actually thinking things through and playing the game how I think it's meant to be played, where the day chat and how players interpret/act is the primary way to win. Therefore I propose the following changes to the hallowed "9-3-3 or I ragequit" save that 90% of players want to use.
1. Make the game less easy to play, by nerfing night actions so that players win by the day chat/voting.
>Mafia is a game that can be played by night actions and sheep voting during the day, but it is less fun and much less rewarding this way.
Srsly tho, I'm not going to name names but I have seen a lot of you fuckheads playing for over a year, and you never get better. I just won a game by claiming amnesiac turned escort, and the town hanged a confirmed sheriff. Mafia is a thinking game, not a game to play while you are AFK eating kraft dinner or playing hearthstone.
2. Remove all neutral killing roles, except maybe heavily nerfed arson as a choice for neutral evil.
>Neutral killing makes the game end before anything interesting can happen, makes the winner be chosen by RNG.
For me, the games I really enjoy playing are when the game gets to night 7 and most players are dead, with the mafia needing to win by confusing the last remaining town that they are town. When most of the town is dead by day 4, players will either random because they need to kill a scum, or not vote and just lose the game.
3. Add at least 3-4 confirmed citizens to your save
>Remember those games that you felt proud of for seeing through mafia/triad bullshit, or when you bamboozled the town with a dope ass claim.
The games I remember, and that I had the most fun playing, weren't games when I used my OVERPOWERED night abilities to DESTROY 5 MAFIA IN ONE NIGHT. It's where I used my wits, knowledge about the game and OP skills of reading players to decide "Hey, 3 may have a shitty day 6 sheriff claim compared to 13, but I know 6 has been acting and voting pro town so I'm going to hang 13".
I KNOW you noobs don't like playing as citizen because MUH NIGHT ABILITIES DDDDD, but srsly. In half the games I feel proud for winning, though I may be doctor or nerfed investigator, I didn't win them with my abilities but rather by outplaying and reading my opponents/fellow town. By removing the neutral killing role, confirmed or random citizens will be a necessity to the save for balance reasons, I think.
Maybe the type of player who joins a sc2 mafia lobby is half-afk, or doesn't want to learn the subtleties that make this game actually fun (again, at least fun to me) but I think changing the meta drastically and making power roles actual "power roles" while adding a bunch of vanilla citizens, and removing the SK MM and powerful arson would at least be an interesting experiment, and you noobs might even learn something and have some fun while you play.
TL;DR : THOSE GAMES YOU REALLY HAD FUN IN AND ENJOYED, AND FELT PROUD OF FOR WINNING MAY HAVE BEEN OUTLIERS, BUT ONCE I START SPAMMING MY SAVE WITH 3 CONFIRMED CITIZENS I HOPE YOU WILL HAVE MORE OF THEM. REMEMBER WHY YOU PLAY MAFIA, AND REMEMBER THAT THIS GAME ISNT FUCKING ABOUT NIGHT ACTIONS. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOOD LUCK/MODS PLS STICKY
