    Re: Applying for Mod

While i think there is a lot of interest in becoming a mod, and what process is involved. I doubt there is much need for new mods, let alone a forum.

I would however be interested in seeing how much traffic the reported players section gets. Since the reports are all hidden unless promoted to a punishment.

Perhaps a "What's involved in being a mod" thread, with details on how to apply.

No offense, but every time I see someone with less than 200 posts apply for mod, it makes me cringe. Especially if nobody really knows you.

Although there is much work to be done, we do receive many reports each day. Moderators and Keepers are chosen by the Management team, consisting of Dark.Rev, Elixir and Ambient.

If you truly want to become a mod or a keeper, I recommend getting to know the forums leaders here and interact with them more on the forums. Maybe when the time is right, if you have proven yourself, the management team will look at your name in favor.

Moderator status is not a privilege, it's a responsibility. Moderators donate their time to keep the game and the forums running smoothly. Good to see active Mafia players joining the forums. Welcome.

I have come to find, in-game, a lot of people get a Donor status or Patron, etc., and they think they are the best in the game. They start to try to take charge as a sort of leader of the town and town will wind up losing because they effortlessly listened to the Donor simply because they have a colorful name. In games like this, I suicide and play roulette as much as possible because it would be more fun than listening to someone who thinks highly of them self fail at every turn.

Being a donor/patron/benefactor means you are willing to donate your money to support the creator of this game, as well as the community. It does not mean you have any kind of skill or reputation no matter what people like to say. Being a moderator/keeper means that you are well known enough to the community, and more importantly to DR and company, that they are willing to trust you with some sort of authority. At least that's how I look at it. While I'd personally like to see something of this sort on the forums, there'd probably have to be a base list of requirements, such as Yayap's comment about someone having less than 200 posts and being unknown. Noobs need not apply.

Do you want to become a fucking faggot? Remember the quote: "ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY"???

I've discovered this with any mod. They have removed themselves from the public, and feel that because they have kick abilities, and that DR will listen to them more than players, they are demigods. Well, I had a war with a mod in the Age of Conan forums before it was launched, and she definitely abused her fucking powers because I disagreed with the reasons she would lock my thread and shit.

I voted no, there needs not be another forum. Plus, wouldn't the "parenting mods" of this fucking game say "THIS ISN'T THE PLACE FOR THIS! BAD BOY, LOCKED THREAD!!!"

In my experience, it's never as much fun working behind the scenes. It ruins the illusion, so to speak. You might think being a moderator would be cool, but really, you'll spend most of your time getting whined to in game by people or whined to on the forums by people. You will not be able to play a proper mafia game because everybody will see your shiny moderator notification and instantly get hard-on's.

Basically, if you want to become a moderator, you are wrong.

You guys need more Mods or a group of active players that has some sort of power to kick players from games who are deemed gamethrowers, cheating, skyping or any sort of crime. It's getting out of hand these days and reporting 1 player every game I play is really inconvenient.

I like this game. I only play Mafia and Squadron Tower defense when I'm on SC2.

Guilty before proven innocent? Kicking people even before reviewing the whole game? We do not need moderators like that. Please do read this thread on some overzealous moderators kicking innocent players (I did not go through the replay).

    https://www.sc2mafia.com/forum/showth...s-gamethrowing

Some people just have impaired logical thinking and thus deemed to be gamethrowing. Others are too intelligent and thus suspected of skyping. Differentiating those with a complete replay at hand is already hard enough. How accurate the decision to kick people made in less than a minute be?

Moderating a video game is not hard work LOL. Anybody who thinks this way better never apply for a job in the real world where they are responsible for anyone else other than themselves.

  19. ISO #19

    Re: Applying for Mod

you get money for a job. i don't think the mods get anything for it. they waste their free time for it. Most of the people who try to apply for a mod post just see the power who comes with it and ignore the responsibility. So no i don't see why applying for a mod position should be available on the forums.

They are arrogant faggots anyway and you don't really want to join them =p

If you are so keen to contribute your free time and are in fact not lusting after moderator powers, why not do these instead. There are always work to be done.

    1) Contribute to Mafia Wiki
    2) Help out new players in-game and in mafia channel
    3) Prepare comprehensive reports on violations in-game to save the reviewers' time
    4) Etc. etc.

Nothing is hard work if you love doing it. Nothing is hard work either if you never put your heart into it.

And yes, power corrupts. It eats you from the inside slowly and steadily until you become a slave to it, if you are not careful. Why tie down yourself when you can enjoy freedom.

If you felt strongly that the current state is so bad and something needs to be done to save your beloved game of SC2 Mafia, continue what you are doing now plus a lot more and try your best to grab on to moderator powers. I believe that some got their moderator powers through this way anyways.

The average Game Thrower is 1 every 3 games. The average troll game set up is 1 every 5 games. Yes, I do believe we need more volunteer mods. When I first played Mafia, things were a lot simpler. People played fair back than. As the game got more popular, problems started escalating at a fast rate. I'm thankful to the volunteers in helping the Mafia community from players that try to ruin games. It's evidently clear to everyone that you guys need more help. I don't see the downside to applying for Mod or certain position that gives the user privilege to do certain things.

Side Note - People don't mess around when there's a cop next to them.

    Re: Applying for Mod

Even if DarkRevenant needs more mods, it doesn't mean that you have the right to apply. Of course you can ask and beg and everything else, but he doesn't have to give you anything. (or even read the post of you asking to become one.)

Like others have said being a moderator is a responsibility and there will most certainly be requirements and some sort of process to see if you are trustworthy. (you could almost call it an interview, except it's not scheduled. People are always watching and seeing what you post and how you act. It's a constant interview that starts as soon as you make your account.)

If you really want to help, you should be more like a keeper and help other people and such. Maybe then they can see how much of a great person you are and approach you on becoming a moderator. And in my opinion just because you are a donor doesn't mean you have a right or a privilege to anything. The fact that donors get colored names and such is only because DarkRevenant thought that he would like to give a little back to the donor. Technically speaking just because you donate you are still not entitled to colored names and the works, I saw him say somewhere that he just decided to give a little back because he was so appreciative of the donations.

Anyways that's my opinion on the matter.

And darn you spoiler tags!!!!!! Must stop clicking!!!!

Tell you what. Instead of screaming for moderators. Do this.

Invite all the players you see to join Mafia channel. Create private games free of those pestilence. Maybe leave a place or two for pubbies to join. Do not invite blacklisted players to your game. Do not join games of blacklisted hosts. Problem solved. Do it like the good old days.

If the higher ups need more moderators, they will find some by themselves. Or create a thread for that. So if they say that they are not hiring, stop sending the resumes and demand interviews...

This is what I meant. They find you, not other way around.

Just because they pick people for it does not mean you have a right to apply. It's like this: they want you, they contact you. ^^

If the higher ups need more moderators, they will find some by themselves. Or create a thread for that. So if they say that they are not hiring, stop sending the resumes and demand interviews...
Hiring? Who said hiring? I want a Mafia job.
But seriously, no one ever does good private games like before. Unless the Mafia chat gets to like 70+ people, which I've managed to do it the day the public lobby got stuck, and when it fixed everyone left! How sad.

    Re: Applying for Mod

I hate to break it to all of you, but very rarely will being a good member of the mafia channel get you a place as a moderator.

I don't think Elixir or Ambient have any say who is the next moderator. It depends on how well you know Dark Revenant.

If you are a member of the original COM, you are most likely a mod(if you're not undeadsteak aka Caress), if you talk to DR, you have a good chance.

Again, this isn't always case, as DR will give it to the deserving.

An example, as I hate to bring this up since I have no problems with the guy anymore, is Kevinpowers.

No one really knew who Kevinpowers was, besides DR and maybe some other mods.

He had just started playing Mafia and was given mod after 3 weeks.

Him and DR talked on Skype all the time.

No disrespect to Kevin, of course.

My mod app was just to troll, I could care 2 shits if i'm a mod or not.

As to the OP, you most definitely ruined your chance of probably ever being made a moderator because you asked for it. No one also knows you and not even DR does.

Maybe in the future if you hang around for about 7 or 8 months, help others, and not troll at all.

I'm one of the few guys on the Mafia community/site/channel that has been running Mafia since May and is liked by a variety of the members who is not a moderator.

It does not bug me, as I know the two reasons why:

    1. Ruined FM = LOL!

    2. Don't know DR outside of SC.

I screwed myself over from getting the pedestal/get to be an elitist.

    It doesn't bug me.

    Good luck to you OP.

and NO, being a donor won't increase your chances.

So you're saying that moderator positions should only be given to people that don't want to be a moderator?
If they don't want to be a moderator, why did they become one?
    Why do we have moderators?

Please don't say that being a custom map moderator in SC2 takes leadership ability ever again. That is an insult to my profession. It takes the ability to push a button or two. That is it.

    physically yes.

But I would hope that a moderator has good judgment skills or at least doesn't go power hungry....totally lame when they do that. (talking mods in general here)

And I'm surprised this thread isn't locked....

Whoever the mod is that locks this thread is obviously power-hungry.

    Re: Applying for Mod

I highly disagree. I think that the leaders should scout the forums, and play games and find the great players and then offer Mod if they find it fitting. The main problem is I'm assuming plenty of people would apply to become a Mod. I think they should consider their in game play, their usefulness on the forums, and the quality of the reports they send in. If you never make reports or always make bad reports then you won't make a good Mod.

A Mod should really be somebody that reports when they see a reportable offense, and sends high quality reports. Nothing less. I'm sure they will find the people that would make great Mods when they need them. Until then I would suggest just enjoying the game and reporting those cheaters.

For in-game mods, I think it's already done. Look that the additions in the Mafia Player Reports. For forum mods, I don't think we need any.

We've all wanted to be a mod or keeper at one point or another, I'm no exception to this. We all like to support and help DR with Mafia, it's what we're here for partially right? Though you do raise a valid point, most mods have a trend of knowing DR in more ways then we do, they've donated a small sum to help upkeep the game we all love so much. But my point is, I think you're slightly exaggerating, we know DR is biased, but he has a reason to be. Some people such as you and I have been on these forums for almost an entire year. But we wern't selected to be mods for some pretty good reasons. Maybe in the future though.
