Tips to aviod being targeted by the Mafia.

Just thought that it'd be pretty cool to hear your ways of avoiding being targeted by the mafia (or if you just go by luck). Since we all know that if you act smart and pay attention in the game, the mafia will target you and kill you. And the doctors cant save everyone. So if you guys have any strategies to avoid death or just any strategies in general and would like to share them, feel free to do so.

Ex: I know for a fact that if you troll (even if its not a lot and you act stupid or whatever) the mafia will not target you 99% of the time.

It's in the best interests of the mafia to kill those who are being productive for the town, and to allow those who are ineffective to live.

Hence why trolls often avoid mafia attacks. Now as vigilante, I take pride in shooting trolls.

Don't be red

Avoid choosing a trolling name or a name that might attract attention. "Casey Anthony" is going to get more attention than "Phillip".

Avoid revealing your role unless you are 100% positive that your target is a threat to the Town.

When the confirmed Doctor is dead and you are an important role of the town, say something like "Confirmed Bodyguard on me." or "Lookout on me tonight." This threatens the Mafia that a BG might counter them or a Lookout might see them kill you. Which strongly deters their decision to hit you.

One of the most important things to choose is to either talk a LOT or not talk at ALL. There is no middle-ground. Talking only now and then suggests that you're only talking to put your two cents in and staying out of trouble. Which shows the Mafia that you are attempting to avoid them. Reverse Psychology, see it?

And finally, above all else, never help accuse somebody. EG: Sheriff A claims that Orange is a member of the Mafia. Investigator B says that he owns weapons. The Doctor will protect the main source of the information, Sheriff A. The Mafia will target Investigator B knowing this. It's never safe to be an assistant. You either want to be in the spotlight or out of it. The Twilight is the most dangerous place in SC Mafia.

Best way to avoid being killed Night one.

Don't use any name-popping names.

An example is 'Girl with Boobs'. Targetted her as SK night one, took out a bodyguard. She was lynched a few days later.

NOT ENTIRELY TRUE:

You see, I have experience with motherfucking bastard public people, they are so stupid that even when I troll hard, they kill me for no reason. They are like "Oh look this nigger is annoying lets take him out" instead of "He will most likely be investigated or some shit, I'll leave him alive tonight"


On the other hand, sometimes even if I stay too quiet on day 1 I die, but not as often as trolling.
My tips : Pick a common name like "Le Luigi" "Le Mafia" "Dovahkiin" "Whiterun Guard" "Ash is cool"
Do not pick names like "Chuck Norris" "Twilight Sparkle" "Rebecca Black" "Epic nigger"

Even though Epic Nigger is a 50/50 chance, I don't recommend it because even if you survive people might want to lynch you.

Well in my case I always use an automatic name and be quiet, don't say a word, especially being Jailor, I just see the game, and drag off to the silent ones or suspicious people.

Complete trolling more often than not leads to getting lynched than getting killed by the Mafia in my experiences. Although there was a game where one guy (who coincidentally was red) was being a complete asshole and got attacked by all 3 SKs in that game (yes, there were 3).

I do agree that bad/silly names leads to getting killed more often, though. I do this sometimes (once, someone's name was "lol," so I thought killing him and leaving the death note "lol" would be funny). Once as Lookout I was able to determine who the GF and Janitor were night 1 because they went after "Hairy Vagina" and I figured something like that would happen.

I also think quiet people are targeted more often if there is still a doctor around, as no doc in his right mind would protect someone who hasn't done anything interesting all game, and Mafia players will realize this if someone claiming to be Sheriff or something is going around making accusations.

Stupidity loves to rear it's ugly head up sometimes. Just to make a point, I waited until i got a Jester role, and played the role as intended. I was annoying. I did my fair share of spamming. I claimed multiple different roles and eventually, the town finally came to the conclusion that I was a Jester. In this game, I truly was a Jester.

Mafia killed me the following night...
I will never understand why a member of the Mafia would want to kill someone who is no threat to them whatsoever. I would understand if it was some kind of random neutral randomness, but Jester was on the list. Not as a neutral, but actually confirmed Jester. There was no way in hell I wasn't a Jester, but a Mafia STILL insisted that I was some kind of huge threat and killed me. There was no Bus Driver, no Witch, no kind of manipulative role. This mafia, out of his own free will, WASTED a nights kill on me which could have been directed elsewhere.

Long story short, stupid people are stupid. When you give a power role to an idiot, chaos ensues. There isn't always a way to avoid being killed by the mafia if the person who makes the kills has no fucking idea what they're talking about.

BUT...

If I ever get a role that wins with another role, such as Witch or Survivor, I'll find a way to declare it without the majority of the town finding out. I like to claim being blackmailed when the mafia didn't do it. It makes me look innocent to the town, and hopefully the mafia take a hint. Again though, note my last block of text. Stupid people are Stupid. May actually get you killed. Depends on the game situation.

That happens all of the time. I'm obviously not a threat to the mafia in anyway and they come and kill me. So disappointing.

These are some great posts guys. Keep up the good ideas. I do admit a lot of the times it is just circumstantial and people being dumb, but it might help some of the new members.

I think part of the reason the mafia kills people that are of no threat is because of this:
Let's say there is someone that has a big threat to the mafia. Someone who has guessed the correct role of one of the mafia guys. But they think that if they kill that person the guy who was being accused would be killed. So they go and kill someone who no one cares about. Same thing with dangerous Town PRs, they are afraid that person is veteran or there may be doctors or lookouts or Bodyguards or w.e
That's my take on mafia's thinking.

1) Don't be red

The current set up of the names is in a list. Red is at the top, and most people tend to go top to bottom on a list. Being on either end of the list (and usually the top) will make you stand out a lot more. I wish the "list" were instead a circle of names, so it would be a little more neutral

2) Claim veteran

Because nobody wants to mess with a veteran who may go on alert anytime.

3) Declare an important role

This only works if there is at least one doctor in play. Most games I play tend to have 2-3 doctors (one confirmed and the other two from random town). It's risky, but it works. A player who proves that he is an important role (like investigator, sheriff, etc) will always be covered by a doc (unless the doctors are stupid). Mafia would never want to waste a kill on a protected target. They would first have to find and kill all doctors until they can lynch you, buying you precious time.

However, with a BM they could silence you.

Dude, SK doesn't look at player list and see Sheriff, Doctor, Invest. If somebody is claiming veteran then they're probably not one. They're probably a power role that wants to survive, like a Sheriff, Doctor, or Invest. SK can attack without fear of being taken out.

As for SKs wanting to kill Doctors, they don't. Once all the possible Docs end up in the graveyard the Serial Killer is left with nothing to roleclaim.

Avoiding the mafia: don't choose a name then don't say a word the whole game until around day 5-6 and then say "sorry, I had something to do"

Works nearly every time.
