A wise person I knew quite well growing up once told me that you can judge the true quality of a person by how they treat others when there are no consequences for their actions. The couple years I spent in retail made me a firm believer in that statement.

Yes. I work at walmart and I see some people be as nasty as they can because they know they can with out repercussions. I saw a customer spit at one of my cashiers because their card wouldn't swipe and they blamed the cashier . What can the cashier do but call a manager? People disgust me when they know they can get away with anything.

A guy did the same thing to me when I worked retail. He spat on me.
I punched him in his mouth hard enough to knock him on his ass. I had 0 negative repercussions because he assaulted me and I was defending myself. That's how my manager saw it.
My manager was awesome, though.

Before I left my manager regularly kicked people out of the store for insulting or abusing his workers.

I'll say this much. If you have a camera, you win that case.

If you don't have a camera, you lose.

Spitting is also considered assault, but if he stops spitting he is no longer assaulting you and technically you are supposed to stop and call 911.
