your first scenario depends on whether there's a d1 lynch.
It's 5v2 at game start, it would be 3v2. Then 2v1.
if you can't lynch d1, mafia gets a kill off n1, its 4v2 come day 2.
Why not immediately lynch between the two sheriff claims? You either lynch sheriff, and lynch mafia the next day; or lynch mafia, and have a doctor'd sheriff for the rest of the game.
if you lynch the sheriff in 4v2, it becomes 2v2
Everyone is welcome to voice their opinions! I would love some insight to the nature of balance for the setup, as I have not played this setup specifically before.
I did do a bit of research however.
This setup is similar to Pie E7, a setup on mafiascum that is almost the same, with the only difference in the setups being that there is a mafia aligned escort. I've read discussions on whether the consort can perform a kill AND roleblock at the same time, that argument is irrelevant in this case, but they all agreed that the mafia should at least HAVE the consort in order to prevent a game breaking town strategy (Follow the Cop).
Do you have links to the games you have played before? I'd like to take a look at them.
EpicMafia has this as one of their core setups 7 player setups.
On Day 1, Mafia and Sheriff claim Sheriff. On Day 2 Sheriff outs his claim, and Mafia comes out with a clear or mafia. (They're okay in this situation as long as they don't guilty the doctor). Typically at this point its 4 v 2. Optimal thing is to skip because cop makes it to next day and villagers get clues. Day 3 decides game in which a cop is lynched. If mafia gets lynched, cop has the clears. If cop gets lynched, town loses.
i think the setup's balanced as is. Usually in this type of setup, a mafia has to claim sheriff to have some sort of chance.
I don't know if its my place to say anything; I've just played this setup a bunch of times.
Balance Concern: The current role list allows for a game of "Follow the Doctor" to occur, in which a sheriff can immediately claim with minimal risk.
