In that case, I'd expect SK to push Mafia heavily so that FBI would be less inclined to check them if on a red flip.

"never" is a huge stretch, but you're right that it is possible. Town will fight their lynch because they feel like they have a "civic duty" to... not die, usually. That's only if they're not inactive potatoes, though.

That being said, I don't know who you're talking about, since I didn't see anyone "fighting their lynch" since the game has been rather tame (probably too tame).
