Apologies to anybody who was on the end of my swearing or exceedingly arrogant speeches. It was all part of the fun for me. I promise my next FM persona will be friendlier and more loving

Re: Epilogue - The Awards Ceremony

Well, this game was very confusing but also alot of fun nevertheless. Bad guys got very unlucky this game... Glad I was town, lol

But hey, I statistically guessed a mafia on night 1! Yes it was not a random decision: Statistically the middle player or one of the players above or below him in the player list is always scum, at least thats how it goes for me in SC2 mafia so I applied that in this FM and bingo, I hit the mark! If I was a Sheriff i'd have a mafia found on the first night

Interesting, the concept of "helping town" as bus driver also included clearing myself apparently, since the only time I actually really helped town was by saving the blacksmith from the arsonist and letting a citizen burn in his stead.

First time I actually took notes and tried to scumhunt for real, lol... Then again, when do I get to be town in FM? I'm scum usually, and if there was a cult in this game I am betting you any amount I would be one of their recruits, heh

Edit: I'm gonna have to get used to not being Illidan anymore

    Woosh.

Hang in there, Zack. The GM may take our roles, but he can never take our accounts!

Zynisch 'til I die, Zynisch 'til I die, Zynisch 'til I die!

The only thing that stopped me from taking Purple Wizard was the notion that I may have been culted at some point anyway. Dodged a bullet there.

Re: Epilogue - The Awards Ceremony

I can finally rest my brain. And no longer have to set a 12 pm alarm clock for me to log on an start setting up the next night/day.
So here are my thoughts on some of my roles and mechanics:

-Lookout, Detective and Investigator being combined into 1 role: gives multiple ways to play the role and limits the number of PRs required in game = Good for mafia, I liked the result.

-Coroners and Doctors being combined: I loved this the most.. who needs a coroner in FM with the old system. Granted, I made Coroners extremely useful in my FM and with my newspaper giving out some results, they were able to give out some of their results undetected.

-Spy: To any future hosts that want to use this type of role, unless you have allot of time, simply tell him the results. Making the sound files take allot of time and people like to turn in their actions right before deadline.

-Newspaper: I had fun making them, mostly using the events from previous days as my content. But again, doing it the way I did was very time consuming, took on average 2-3 hours per day to make the newspapers.

-DeadChat contributing in the newspaper: Obviously keeping this a secret was a key to this mechanic, there was great potential that was not used. Scum didn't exploit this at all and town screwed up on it balancing it out. I like the idea though, gives dead people a reason to keep playing. Read the latest tweets in the town graveyard for what was going in todays newspaper.. I Laughed so hard when I saw it.

-Themed names: Instead of having the roles have a name, naming the accounts according to the theme kept the theme more upfront.

-FAQ Thread: Whenever I logged on, that was the first place I looked. I really helps keep all the questions in one place. Highly recommend this for future FMs.

-Jailor being able to detain: this wasn't used as much as I expected since the Jailor kept jailing town or confirm-able roles. So this would need more testing before I can judge this.

-Modkills: Simply put, I modkilled anyone that wasn't contributing and kept the ones that wanted to play in the game. With 50 players, reserves ran out fast and I had to resort to the dead people and even giving one person 2 accounts. For smaller FMs, this shouldn't be a problem and I recommend eliminating those pesky extreme lurkers.

-Codes: The codes in this game were acceptable in my eyes. I denied quite a few from mafia night 1.

-Different lynching methods: This game was pretty much the testing grounds for all that and I think it mostly went well. For any that are curious, today would have been only 1 vote day. (No changing, adding or unvoting once posted)

-Archives for night actions: Previous hosts have had these on their own Pcs or on google docs, whatever. Having them on the forum in a clear way really helps to show later all the craziness that happened. However, I ran into the unfortunate problem with the forums rollback. So keeping a back-up is recommended.

-Single or 2 hosts: Personally, I don't think anyone could help me with this FM. Answering the FAQ correctly was key to keep it together, if I had to wait until the other host was online before I did or said anything, I would have seen huge delays.
However, my FM was the most complicated to date with allot of new stuff. If good coordination and dedicated tasks are set in a simpler FM, I can see how it would work out.

-Thief/Dark Thief: In my opinion, this is the most powerful role in my setup. However in my FM, we got 2 clear opposite results. Town Thief was used perfectly, and the mafia thief died night 1... and then targeted a role that would have normally jailed him. If things were reversed, things could have had a very different outcome by increasing the Mafias KPN and disabling key PRs.

-Jester killing more than 1 person: I'm a huge fan of bigger consequence when lynching the Jester. I find only 1 jester death is just not enough to make town care about the jester. 1/4 of the voters made people think twice. Considering that in Epic Mafia, lynching the "fool" makes town auto loose, I think we can bump up the jester deaths to this level or even more.

-Blacksmiths vs Gunsmith and armorsmiths: Gives more flexibility when playing the roles. I'm surprised that guns were handed out so fast. I didn't expect them to want to level up as long as the thief was still out there. I would consider adding in another item that would be flame resistant at lvl 3 if I had to do it over again.

-Hooker notes, arson notes: Loved this addition, give allot of potential to those roles.

-Drugs being non-random: Unfortunately mafia screwed this up like no other... they healed 2 town and still had no idea what pill did what because of team communication meltdown/modkills. I liked the fact that they could chose the effect once they knew what did what.... Healing pill to stay alive could have helped.

-Blackmailer: I actually had no intention to add this role into my game. lol... answering all your questions about it day 0 drove me nuts. But then Mafia got owned and I threw him in as a last effort to see what effect it would have. It still needs polishing but has great potential.

-Mason Leader: I really really liked my mason setup. Stops masons from growing out of control after they loose the leader and still have a chance to recruit later on if the game goes on that long. Mafia have to deal with Masons just as much as Cult do. Previous host seem to have forgotten that masons in big FM are a huge problem for mafia. I hope this FM demonstrated that very point.

-Masons not dying to reg mafia: Masons not being a information role really helped mafia in a sense... but because of a really good leader 3/4 recruits, this didn't come into play.

-Wizards picking their alignments: I enjoyed that part, stopped you all from killing off a wizard as soon as you found one. I also think that evil wizards could have had a bigger impact on the game if they weren't exposed day 1 or modkilled. With Blacksmiths/Thieves/Vigs/Vets around, evil wizards are scums best friend.

-Voting multiple people: I think this was an essential mechanic for anyone not being able to be online 24/7.

-Only day RPs: made it easier for the host and gave me something to write about in the day RPs. Allowed me to post night on time.

-Not locking day when someone is lynched: Why drag out the voting if you all know you is going to get lynched? Get it over with without fear of not having time to ask your questions or plan later. Also allows a host to plan his real life schedule. I can't be online 24/7 waiting for a hammer.

-Allowing people to lie about mechanics unless asked in FAQ: This was so hard for me to do, I would see so many lies and misunderstanding and I had to let it ride. Certainly gives scum a chance to run with a lie if no one knows they lied.

-Keeping FM to fm.. no out of game talking: With no Rep, PMs or other things, this is how FM should be played. I've heard rumors that some out of game discussion took place in mfm... but I didn't have the time to read up on all the posts on this forum to find out.

-real names: I'm disappointed that the only way you found the arsonist was by finding his real name. I really hope this does not become the norm for scum hunting. I hate it. I use COM names to judge someones level of play and let his actions speak for themselves.

-having day 0: Believe it or not, I took quite a bit of your questions and concerns in the pregame into consideration when making my final setup. My role list was finalized 4 hours before roles went out. So reading that I didn't care what you said really hurt.. =( Also, I had given everyone a chance to voice their concerns BEFORE day 0 went live using their real accounts. Very few took part in this compared to the onslaught I faced in day 0. Both however helped me find some of the holes in my setup before starting the game and I'm glad I had day 0.

-Night being 48 hours: With this setup, I would never have it any other way... the only night I had at 24h, I had many late actions that I refused. Mafia, Masons and Jail chats were very active as well and needed those 48 hours. Also gave me some time to rest in between.

-Traitor: Full Wifom there.. There was no Traitor in this game. I found it really funny when mafia started to plan to lynch their GF thinking that there was one to replace him.

-Vigs being allowed to day shoot later in the game and not early: Stops the instant proven role problem mafia face all the time and keeps a mechanic that many people like.

-Bus Driver not allowed to bus himself in early game: Makes the BD think harder who he is going to switch.

-Lookouts / Detectives being seen but not identified when successful early on: Allows the mafia to be alerted that they were spotted and not mess up completely during a single day.

As my final advice to future hosts: Make a "to do list" like I did for you day end sequence and night end sequence... you'll forget stuff if you don't. See the night actions archive for my list. And plan ahead... starting day takes more than 5 mins. (took me on average 4-5 hours to start day... this would include my newspaper and sound files so it should take you less)

Re: Epilogue - The Awards Ceremony

Zack saving me of all people from Fragos the pyronigger. Who would've thunk it?

-Keeping FM to fm.. no out of game talking: With no Rep, PMs or other things, this is how FM should be played. I've heard rumors that some out of game discussion took place in mfm... but I didn't have the time to read up on all the posts on this forum to find out.
As far as MFMVI goes it didn't happen at least. On day 1, one guy said "don't talk about my role in FMX" and then another jokingly replied "I want to talk about your role in FMX" and that was the end of it.

I think 1/4th was good. It shouldn't be more than that or nobody will dare to lynch scum anymore because they might be a jester.

The modkills were fine in my eyes. They were a better alternative to outright killing lurkers and letting the dead pile up. But I didn't like the role rerolls. It should be possible to use posts of the past and the roles list to find out what's still in the game and who may or may not be lying. Too much uncertainty was caused simply because the rerolls could be anything.

I think another important reason for this is that the effects of a gunshot are permanent and armour only serves to protect for one night and might do nothing. We had a lot of "might be scum" that couldn't or just didn't try to prove the contrary in any way, so we tried to cut down their numbers with guns as a means of "investigation".
