It's not like the harm wasn't already done or like scum wouldn't think about his "claim", assuming he's town. And if he happened to be lover/heartbreaker softing his role, it'd have been a sin not to dig further into that. As for his claim, I'm now leaving it to WIFOM. It's possible there's a doctor, and it's possible Light is lying to draw kills.
