    Re: Extreme Racism reportable?

If spam is affecting your game feel free to report them for griefing, the topic of the spam is irrelevant. As for racism itself it's been our policy to leave that for Blizzard to take care of so I would recommend you use their report feature.

I'll touch base with Arrow in regards to this however.

Yeh. We know. Blizzard don't care.
Only their automated system will pick it up after x reports.

We're having an ongoing discussion about this. My concerns, in as much as I'll discuss them publicly, are that the internet largely interprets censorship as damage(this is well documented, such as via the Streisand Effect) and it may not be feasible to punish every instance, as much as I'd like to. The internet, particularly areas with user generated content, are cesspools of discussion where people can make absolute assholes of themselves with little repercussion and all the tools at our disposal, such as text filters, are easily gamed by doing things like adding spaces or junk characters.

Text filters are hard to manage and don't catch nuances, but I would think a clear rule about racist speech that can be reported the same as any other report would be appropriate. Sure, give a warning because in reality 90% of these guys are trolling losers with nothing better to do, but after the warning if they can't keep from using racist speech just ban them. Not much lost on the community side. Similar to how Cute was handled. It's disgusting to see "I HATE NI**ERS" as an in game name every 2-3 games. Send a clear message and start cleaning the community.

I get you guys not wanting to over moderate / over censor, but it's not like there's any options for us that wouldn't be game throwing in itself. Even just muting a player means you are missing potentially vital information if they are in a critical role.

The racist ones usually always die first anyway. They ruin games. If they are evil they are targeted by sheriffs and whatnot, and are caught early. If they are good, they become targets for Jailors and lynch happy towns. Actions have consequences. You can cry about free speech all you want, but free speech doesn't mean free from consequences.

I don't cooperate with racists or pedophiles. Period. No matter what they claim.
