We, the town, and at first even the Mafia, have little way of knowing whether there are any Illuminati or not. The only way we can 100% state for a fact. that there are Illuminati is if The Godfather's kill is redirected into himself (Last mafia kill is not cleaned). It's very uncomfortable not knowing exactly what the setup is; but I have a feeling it matters more to the mafia than to the Town. I'm not 100% on this and. I am open to other ideas.

I guess it can prevent Godfather from killing at night, for example, but it can also roleblock a stronger town role, such as Vigilante or Sheriff. Anyway Escort is not terribly important.
