    Guide to Mafia

After todays games it became clear that I needed to write a guide to share my secrets of success with you guys. It is long overdue for sure. Finally, after much anticipation I did it.

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!

    Universally Agreed Upon Rules:

    1) Not everybody can win, so "NOBODY WINS" is the most fair outcome seeing as there is no EVERYBODY WINS. Strive to achieve it for the spirit of fairness.
    2) Red isn't ALWAYS mafia- but they will NEVER survive to the end of the game.
    3) Lynch the Mayor. They aren't useful. The more votes they have, the more important it is to get them on the stand before they reveal. If you failed to lynch the Mayor, jail and execute the Mayor. If all else fails the Vigilante will surely be able to shoot the Mayor himself. This way the Mayor won't kill any townsfolk!
    4) If a survivor EVER voted with town at any point during a game, as the Mafia (or other Neutral that wins alone) you are obligated to kill or lynch him or her before the end of the game. As the Town you are simply obligated to deny him or her points regardless of their votes throughout the game.
    5) Not everybody can win, so "NOBODY WINS" is the most fair outcome seeing as there is no EVERYBODY WINS. Strive to achieve it for the spirit of fairness.
    6) TOWN WILL PROBABLY LISTEN TO MOST THINGS YOU SAY IF IT'S IN ALL CAPS AND THEY DON'T KNOW THAT YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE(and by that I mean if they don't know I'm me)

    Tips:

-If you're the Doctor, try to claim Detective. It helps to put someone on trial so Mafia thinks you're really the Detective and not a Doctor. The Doctor will be on you after all!
-Nobody is a better investigator than the Jailor. Investijails are very important. When in doubt, execute. Can't have any Serial Killers escaping.
-Vigilantes are very effective when combined with doctors. Simply click on a doctor to combine your bullet with him.
-Roleblocking Doctors is a good way to keep their identity secret. The Mafia doesn't need to know there is a doc or they will surely die.
-If you're the Bus Driver ALWAYS switch the Mayor with Vigilantes target.
-If you're the Doctor, healing Mafia can sometimes get them on your side.
-Veterans make a good investigative role when you use your alert. Try acting suspicious so townsfolk prove to you that they are indeed Investigators instead of Consiglieres.
-Jesters are always aligned with the Mafia or other Neutral parties. "YES JESTER WIN" is a sure-fire way to get hanged if you are ever accused even 1% of conspiring against town.
-Sometimes you need to die to prove you are a certain role. "YES JESTER WIN" will also assist you in this manner as you're sure to be hanged and your role will be revealed to all.
-Suiciding and selecting a target to kill is generally the only way to create a Nobody Wins scenario. There are a few exceptions such as Jailicide

    Glossary:

    * Murder-Suicide (NOBODY WINS): The killing role will kill the other person and suicide in the same night. This will produce the NOBODY WINS screen if a Jester has not been hanged or an Executioner has not hanged his target.
    * Doctective - A Doctor pretending to be a Detective.
    * Comedy Club Jailor - A jailor who executes based on joke quality.
    * YES JESTER WIN - Code for "I am a townie" or "I am a Jester"
    * GET VESTED - A citizen or survivor who vests up to survive an attack is encourage to say this the next day

Powerful compound roles(some may already be mentioned above) and special ways to use vanilla roles:

    * The Jestigator: An Jester acting as Investigator is a powerful weapon for the mafia. They probably wont shoot you as long as you keep "investigating towns." Don't forget YES JESTER WIN!

    * The Doctective: A Doctor acting as Detective. If your target gets attacked and their role is unknown at the time, it's obviously either the SK attacking the Mafia, the Mafia attacking the SK OR The Mafia or SK attacking a Cultist! They must all be hanged no matter the cost! If they are not attacked make an educated guess. If you're an experienced player you will likely be a better Detective as a Doctective than a full Detective would be, so your opinion is worth more than their so-called-facts. You probably have a lot of information to go off of like suspicions from the Mayor or Citizens. Remember, Citizens are important!

    * The Investijail: A jailor acting as Investigator who gets information from his Jailee. It is recommended that you execute after your discussion to avoid Serial Killers. You already have what you need from him if he wasn't lying and if he was lying hey, you killed a baddie! Never act as a vanilla Jailor, only Investijail. If you want to try an advanced tactic however, execute another Jailor -if- you can easily identify one. This way, your role will be a mystery to all as the Jailor just died, so your more safe from the mafia gun!

-Jailicide: When a Jailor executes someone in jail and then takes his own life via suicide to reveal to town that he REALLY was the Jailor. It is only recommended that you do this when out of executions. Without your ability to randomly execute, you're useless from then on anyways.

    * The Lookoutive: A Detective acting as Lookout or Lookout acting as Detective. Pretty self explanatory. This is when you need to claim MULTIPLE visits, but may only actually have the dirt on one, or only need to claim a single visit despite seeing multiple visitors to focus the towns voting power.

    * The Mayoriff: An advanced tactic as the Mayor is to get put on the stand via suspicious dialogue. Once you're on the stand wait until about 0:02 to reveal your mayor status via -vote. That way, the Mafia wont have time to un-guilty you!

    * The Vigilantive: Another advanced tactic is to always vote up people that you shoot at night but live. He or she may have been healed by the doctor or thrown in jail(OR might EVEN be the Veteran)- BUT that does NOT mean they are indeed innocent.

-Negate: Another advanced tactic to waste the Mafias night kills are to shoot the targets before they do. That way, they are wasting each nights kill. A less efficient Mafia is less likely to win! The difficulty in this tactic lies within the ability to predict their targets. It's not always easy.

    * The Citizen: Remember, at the start of each Mafia session, the game reminds every player that you are important! For this reason it is a good idea to reveal your status at the beginning of each game. You are important! Everyone needs to know who you are! If a Mayor must die to preserve your life, so be it. he is not important like you are. The rest of the Town will understand.

    * The Veteran: An advanced tactic as the Veteran is to act suspicious right before night. You need to be more suspicious than normal. The Mafia will know this is a trick and will SURELY visit you to frame you or dig up more dirt. They may even send a mafioso after you! Town will love your skills.

    * The Spy: The Mafia wont always talk but there are many tell-tale signs you can look for on night 1 to always get your man.

    -Stop: Pause the game.

-Look: Observe the role list for suspicious names, specifically people who tried too hard to pick a name that blends in. They are very likely to be hiding for a reason.

-Listen: Read the Mafia chat. Chances are they will tell you who they are- but will also insult you because they think you are too scared to tell the town who they are.

-Smell: Make sure you are always observant of your surroundings if you smell gas, get out of the house. No sense in dying. Town may need your character to stay alive!

    And lastly,

Don't be a pussy: Tell the town everything you read in a manner that makes it sound 100% believable or they will be able to deny your claim and say you are not a confident (or even FAKE) Spy.
