History of Forum Mafia (Hall of Fame)

As a community, we are not perfect; we have frequent disputes with each other, and several endless, often pointless debates. The most fundamental is this -- Who is the best at Mafia? There has never been a good answer to this, but throughout our shared history, we clashed against each other in Mafia games on the official Starcraft II platform or on the website itself. Some of us were in it for the fun, others were in it for the competition, but everyone did it for at least a little of both. It is through this spirit of competition that the Forum Mafia section was founded.

The crux of this section has always been these grand Forum Mafia games, for they unite the entire community in a months-long struggle for victory against fellow players. To celebrate their cultural significance to our site, I have researched and collected data from every single Forum Mafia to present to you, so that you may look into the history of our site.

    5-Sided Mafia, 35 Players

My very first main Forum Mafia. Coincidentally, the first time the site had deviated from the Classic Mafia variant. It was a rather enjoyable experience, mainly because anyone who played this would say that it was a misplay from the Godfather that led to the Town victory. He had miscounted the amount of allies alive, and tried to reveal himself to take control of the game; needless to say, it failed and his teammates were exposed and lynched. Another thing of note is that although Town could have won with two different factions, it managed to win alone. Congratulations to Gerik on consecutive MVP's.

FORUM MAFIA XVIII: Brave New World
    Hosted by Clementine and Rocshi
    Classic Mafia, 36 Players

A nice, classic variant with a Cult faction. The game had a fun special mechanic called Soma. Every even numbered night, all of the Alphas (subset of the town power roles) would acquire a Soma tablet, which they can either use or pass. Anyone in possession of a Soma tablet can use it or pass it to another player. Consuming one of these tablets would allow you a second charge of your regular night ability. Passing it would allow you to also pass off a message, which led to some very interesting plays. In the end, the scum teams were deadlocked and no one was supposed to win. However, Clementine discovered that OGC was used in the Mafia faction, and gave them the loss as a result. Funny enough, the Corrupt Journalists mainly won because the host had not specified that they had to survive. Thus, freeloading off the Cultists from the graveyard was sufficient to secure their victory!

    Spoiler : Players List :

    Cultist and Corrupt Journalists Victory!
Congratulations to Boss, TheDarkestLight, Orpz, Superjack, Numbertwo, ajkei, Nicole!

    MVP's: Burnt Eskimo, Godfather

    FORUM MAFIA XIX: Baldur's Gate
    Hosted by Slaol and Borkbot
Classic Mafia, Puzzles Mechanic, 37 Players

This game was the first one on site to have a Puzzles Mechanic. At the start of the game, the Godfather and Neutral Killers had complete immunity to death (even by lynching). In order to strip them of this immunity, the players had to solve a puzzle by submitting a solution as a night action. The main puzzle was in the form of an Einstein's Puzzle, but players could receive clues from lesser puzzles, usually in the form of a riddle. As an extra incentive for Town, the Godfather could actually recruit members into the Mafia while his immunity was up. The puzzle is automatically "solved" after night 6 to prevent the game from becoming absurd. In this game, players had managed to solve the puzzle before night 6, and the Town and Neutrals were able to secure a well-earned victory.

    Spoiler : Players List :

Town, Harpers, Antagonist, Avenger, and Bounty Hunter Victory!
No roles list was provided. The epilogue has an incomplete list, and a link is provided in the Player List tab.

MVP's: Sen, Ritualist and Sc2Reboot, Ghost

    FORUM MAFIA XX: inFamous 2
Hosted by Elixir, AppleyNO, and Slaol.
    Classic Mafia, 36 Players

This game's special mechanics came in the form of one of its roles, The Soul of the Beast. After four days, if the Soul of the Beast was still alive, the game was changed in a big way. The Soul would receive a new rolecard, and if the main Mafia Godfather (colored Green in the actual game) was still alive, he could choose to side with or against the Beast, both coming with unique advantages and disadvantages. In this game, the Godfather chose to side against the Beast, which caused the Beast to become a 2 KPN Neutral Killer. However, the Beast was lynched shortly after. Another thing worth mentioning is that the Cult Leader was lynched on Day 2. Despite this, she had managed to convert the Godfather and almost won at the end. The Electromaniac ended up getting the victory due to well-placed charges and clever play to survive. Jester attained his victory by manipulating Town into thinking he was everything at once -- not many people wanted to put up with that.

    Spoiler : Players List :

    Electromanic and Jester Victory!
    Congratulations to Fragos and Yayap!

MVP's: Gyver, Priest, Yayap, Jester, Fragos, Electromaniac

    FORUM MAFIA XXI: Valhalla
    Hosted by Cryptonic
    Classic Mafia, 34 Players

This setup was a classic Town vs Mafia, with Neutrals sprinkled about. Although Town had lost a lot of members early on, with 5 dying in succession (including a Mayor, Vigilante, and Sheriff), unlucky nights for scum and well-formulated lynches by Town led to a string of scum lynches that would secure the victory. Unfortunate events such as the Toxicologist poisoning the Consort and the Disguiser being caught and lynched before disguising were just some examples of what went wrong for the scum. In particular, the MVP was earned by the Vigilante for landing every shot on a scum, and then dying on the night he used his last shot.

    FORUM MAFIA XXII: Star Trek
    Hosted by Yayap
BANG!-esque Mafia, Shop Mechanic, Rooms Mechanic, ??? Players

Undoubtedly this game was the most wild and exotic setup played on this site. It was less like Mafia and more like BANG! For that reason, not many players wanted to sign. Those that did found it too difficult to play, and gradually lurked out. There were items, rooms, chat divisions, subchats, the whole grab bag. It was cancelled a few nights in for a lack of interest. Even now, navigating through the subforum this game is housed in, I cannot find all the information required to process a full entry.

FORUM MAFIA XXIII: Avatar Book 3: Fire
    Hosted by Slaol and Gerik
    Classic Mafia, 30 Players

As the name suggests, this game was the third installment of the Avatar series hosted by Slaol and Gerik (previous episodes were M-FM's or S-FM's). It was a classic Mafia setup, but each player had dynamic roles -- the way to achieve their new roles was to be inspired by unique leader roles such as Avatar and Grand Lotus. As both of these roles were Town aligned, the special mechanics were geared towards Town playmaking. The climax of this game was in the very last day: One Town, One Mafia, and One Survivor. The classic three different players of three different alignments. In the end, the Survivor chose to win with the Town, as their play had impressed him the most and he felt they deserved the victory. It pays to work hard, you never know how might notice your efforts!

FORUM MAFIA XXIV: The Fallen Kingdom
    Hosted by powerofdeath and Orpz
    Classic Mafia, 30 Players

A classic variant with deceptively many factions, including a powerful Cult faction. Perhaps too powerful, as many players decried its ability to recruit from the Mafia faction. Once the first Mafia was stolen, it was all over for them. Despite the infighting between scums, the game remained competitive, as everyday was one mislynch from becoming MYLO for Town until the end. This game had its crazy moments, with the King lynching himself to bring out the Masons' full potential, and the Escort roleblocking his would-be converter, only to get converted on the next night by the same person. In the end, the scums had done irreparable damage to themselves while being broadsided by Town's deadshot lynches. Town and the Prince (who only had to kill the Masons, Mafia and Mayor, then survive) took home the victory.

    Spoiler : Players List :

    Town and Prince Victory!
Congratulations to Bunny, Arrow, RLVG, Mikecall, Superjack, Slaol, Frog, Banshis, Gerik, KlingonCelt, L0lUnicorn, Helios!

    MVP's: Frog, Armored

FORUM MAFIA XXV: A Game of Thrones
    Hosted by Cryptonic and Mattzed
    6-Sided Mafia, 26 Players

It is interesting that for one of the smallest Forum Mafias to date, this game had the most unique factions. Despite this curious note, the game's 6-sided mechanic proved to be one that was enjoyable for all. Even in the earliest days, players thought deeply about signing off potential alliances and betrayals. Unfortunately, a series of misplays and mislynches crippled the Targaryen and their allies' abilities to influence the game, and all three anti-Targaryen factions capitalized perfectly. Even then, the game could have swung again in the direction of the Targaryen: they had kill potential with the Blacksmith, Knight, and a strong leader in the Watchman. Their combined powers' potential never came to be recognized; in the final day, there were two day-killing roles in the Martell and Baratheon factions. As luck would have it, they realized the game could end with their combined abilities. After the Targaryens were irreversibly destroyed, the last surviving Lannister was quickly sent to the gallows, and the snap of his neck would signal the Martell and Baratheon's united victory.

    Spoiler : Players List :

House Martell and House Baratheon Victory!
Congratulations to Elixir, Unknown1234, Orpz, Quick, Voss, Lysergic!

    MVP's: Lysergic, Assassin

And thus ends the collection of Forum Mafias, for now. Please feel free to offer suggestions and critique, as well as check out the call for summaries below.

All major sections have been completed. The remaining task is to possibly edit the introduction, conclusion, as well as complete the list of players who won. The last part might not be possible for all games since the data is scattered really really badly.
