The Star system?

Just wondering how does it work? I'm curious because another forum I'm active on has the exact same layout as this one and I've always wondered. Since they are so damn established there it takes roughly 1000 posts to even get to 2stars. Here it seems like you can get stars easier. Is it purely admin based or is there some sort of mathematical formula? Also how do you get the shiny colours? lol

Not whining just inquiring, I am very competitive :P.

There's just 2 levels. 1 star is for people who are new (or in some cases useless), and 2 is for people who have posted 10 times. 3 stars is for people who have stuck around for a while (I add those manually). 4 stars is for extra special people, and 5 stars is for site staff. Yellow is for regular people, Green is for moderators (site and mafia alike), Blue is for global moderators, and Red is for administrators and our resident troll.

How come people who post 10+ things and get 2 stars stop becomeing intiates and have no position on the member list???
