    Civ V: Brave New World

Has anybody played the new Civ V expansion pack Brave New World?

    Apparently it has pitboss mode:

Pitboss is, in the words of the patch notes, a mode "which allows players to connect, take their turn, disconnect, and come back later. Email notifications and steam notifications are built into the system." A more laid-back mode for people who don't want to sit and play a round for several hours straight, see.
Has anybody played with pitboss before? Does it work well? I imagine the first 20 turns where nothing happens go by so slowly without anything happening. It's kind of reminiscent of those chess games that people used to play via post in the 70s.

I love BNW. I probably play about half a game a day.
I really fucking hate the science changes to late game, and the nerfed Warmongering. It's more realistic but I find that it's better to go for peaceful victories now. That being said, they made Cultural victory a lot more fun, so it's fine.

Ontopic: I've never played multiplayer. My friends have tried to host games together but it always fails because no one wants to play for several hours straight with all the connection lag and stuff. Pitboss seems great, but it also seems too slow at the same time. Mixed feelings about it. I'm also pretty sure Pitboss was in Gods and King.
Spoiler : Orpz FM History :

    FM17 - Won, FM18 - Won, FM19 - Won ,FM20 - Loss, FM21 - Won, MVP, FM22 - Host Canceled, FM23 - Won, FM24 - Hosted, FM25 - Won, FM26 - Loss

What's the longest time that one of your pit boss games has survived?

Is Brave New World noticeably new/more fun than Gods and Kings? I loved G&K but grew tired of it after a while.

Yeah, I'm debating whether or not to purchase the expansion, and also whether or not playing pitboss would work out. It seems like a fun idea to play a 1v1 with somebody over the course of a month, but I wonder if it really works.

BNW is completely different than G/K. For instance, you can have both Piety and Rationalism open now, and Piety is Ancient Era so it's a viable start. 4 Cities Tradition has been nerfed to hell since you can't trade lump sums without a DoF. People do 3 Cities Tradition for peaceful now, or Liberty Domination. Other than that, the opening is pretty much the same.

Most radical change imo is the science overhaul. You get penalized for each addition city you have. Like, on a Huge map, each city you own or puppet raises tech costs by 5%. Late game science becomes a huge bitch. Even if you're going for a science victory, it'll probably take you like 20 turns to research Nanotechnology when you get there. In G/K, it was like 7 or 8? You won't get bored anymore after conquering an entire continent, because you're not that far ahead in science like you were in G/K. You'll be ahead, but not faceroll ahead.

It's definitely worth the buy. The scenarios are pretty fun too.

Can't explain all the changes in one post so:

Heroes III with a "pit boss" mode would have been so fucking cash.

I will definitely reconsider my decision to not purchase a $30 expansion pack because of this. Being in Korea makes it practically impossible to play this with anyone back in the states.

Also, Civ is supposed to be a long game. Of course you also have to set it to domination only victory.

I am a Utopia player, I find this game extremely hard for culture. Military needs money, science need money, and everyone is military science, people don't like to sign researchagreement and trade.

    Utopia! fight your way out!
When we talked about pubs, we are talking about us.
When they talked about pubs, they exclude themselves.
They say only bad players want to modify citizens, and they do not satisfy bad players.
Are we bad players? We include bad players, but that is just a part of us.
