My thoughts on life and yours

Before we get into it, I would like to point out that I do not believe in any religion. Also, do not try to convince me of your religious views but rather try to walk through the following idea with logic. Enough with the disclaimers, let's move on.

What is the purpose to life?

I firmly believe there is no purpose to life. Why? Because there is absolutely nothing that is permanent. Once you are dead, everything you have achieved, attained, aspired for, etc. is all meaningless. Even if you are the greatest human alive and cured world hunger, brought world peace, and forever go down in history, your life is still temporary. In fact, the lives of everyone you helped change is also temporary and, therefore, puproseless. Everything you do is without purpose. Even the pursuit of knowledge. Why pursue knowledge when you will eventually die and all that you have sought is meaningless? Even the greatest scientists such as Newton, Einstein, whatever have helped humans realize the functions of the world, yes. But they are dead now and everyone who learns and expands on their studies will also die. In fact, our time is so limited in this universe that it won't even matter that they have made such contribution in the vast scheme of the universal "cycle" (if you will). Why do you live for? Everything is so temporary. You can love, be happy, be rich, travel the world, etc but you will eventually die and all that you have done is pointless and meaningless.

Some say to make your own purpose in life. But if life is purposeless in the first place, the so called purpose you have made for a purposeless idea is pretty purposeless in itself (in other words the purpose you made for life isn't very helpful if you are going to be dead in the end).

    tl;dr there's no fucking point.

kk, you mope while I enjoy my life.

People who have done things, lasting things like Einstein or Galileo and so on that have made lasting effects still have their ideals living today. We study in school about people from hundreds of years ago and will for so long and more on.
To suggest that a ripple always comes to an end is to suggest Abraham Lincoln never freed African Americans from slavery.
To suggest Dwight D. Eisenhower never made the ballsy move of doing D day on a rainy day that just happen to be a day that Germany allocated their forces leading to the slow steady end of World War 2.
To suggest the theories of Charles Darwin, inevitably leading to all our understanding of evolution, never made his impact studying animals all around the world.
I am sorry, but you are wrong. Ripples of people from all throughout history beat harder than most people alive today and to have the audacity to think that it isn't permanent on our race is just. simply, incorrect.

heres my take on all religion. here is god, he exists outside of time, and can do whatever he wants to at any given moment, and rewrite us all. if this is true then we have already been rewritten to do exactly what he wants us to do from start to finish for all of creation. or god can exist inside of time, in which case he is a physical tangible "something" with a massive amount of power, in which case the human race should strive to be greater than this alien, and become gods ourselves.

    long live the human race.

aside from god, i think the human race's objective is to just create entropy in the universe, in which case all we should do is produce happy drugs to make us happy 24/7. no good or bad, just be happy.

Same. I have the general belief that Marine is correct, but then it is just as easy to accept that as to realize that what Creed says is also true.
On an individual level- once you die it all ends.
On a global level- you should try to be someone meaningful and impact your species.

It's just as easy to tell yourself life is meaningless as to realize life is incredible. And frankly when you cut away meaning and embrace the epicness of life and experiences without trying to slap a finite reason on them it becomes much much more incredible on a daily level.

I won't argue that such breakthrough and innovation has permanence within our race but our race in itself has no permanence. It's not like I haven't thought through on how advancing the human race as a whole (evolution, discoveries, altruism etc etc) is not the ultimatum of purposeness. I understand those who enjoy life for the sake of hedonism but that feels so temporary to me.

disclaimer: I'm not here to advocate any suicidal thoughts or attempts that will harm life despite my "life is pointless" stance.

Uh oh another Idealist. You want too much. That's your problem. Basicly your purpose in life is it to make offspring. So humanity wont die out. That's all there is. You live for being alive.

Oh and to kill nature sry. Forgot that part.

    I hope i could help you! ;)

The entire universe is just a game. Literally. It's just some highest race out there and they created this map to test their units - humans. We are just units who work as programmed. Why does everything in the world just fail always, in your opinion? It's the level-up!
Also, this programm theory explains such phenomenons as Vanga or other prophets: they are bugged programs who can farsee the future, while the programm has already got logical /end.

Re: My thoughts on life and yours

Why does LIFE have to have a meaning, in order for YOUR LIFE to have meaning???

First poster is 100% correct, there is no "purpose" to life - life itself exists only to perpetuate more life. We are no different than the bees buzzing around a beehive, the only difference is we have the intellectual capacity to look in a mirror and question why we are here.

Life does not have meaning, but that does not mean your time here is meaningless. If you reach out and help one person and change that persons life, and that person later goes on to have children, and that person passes on your positivity to their children, children that someday save the world from destruction - is your time here meaningless just because you werent alive to see the changes? Its chaos theory in the context of the world and the world's existence, and if you really think about it, its a beautiful thing. Life may be meaningless because when you die, you are gone - but that does not mean your life on this earth has to have no meaning.

So spend your time on earth helping people and bringing joy to people's lives. Your contribution, as an individual, should not be one to be selfish and help yourself - you should ask yourself, "How can I help all of humanity"

Your post is either paradoxical or has a contradiction, lol.

The human's purpose in life varies within each human. It depends on the human's philosophy. You may want to reach Mars, and I may want to eat tacos. We still have a purpose.
In humans, there is a purpose of life, and that purpose is just to reach our goals.
Imo, the purpose of life may be more visible if you are religious or like to think scientifically. I think that we could have a next life, and a next life after that, and a next life after that. If that was possible, then our purpose increases. If it's not possible, I'd just like to remain in heaven.

So if you think your life has no purpose, you better kill yourself bro. Your next life might have a larger purpose.

First off, our sun doesn't explode. Our sun will evolve into a Red Giant in about... 5 billion years. Enough time, right?

The answer we have, is not the one you seek. You are looking for something inspiring, none of us can give you that inspiring need to have a purpose. My life goal is to at least influence Terraforming Mars. Yes it may seem impossible today, but tomorrow? Who knows what we can achieve! Just ponder about the past, what they thrived for, what has been giving to you for their sacrifice, their dedication just so you could help the next generation even more then they did for you.
