Thread: Role : Mailer

  1. ISO #1

    Role : Mailer

    Role: Mailer
Alignment: Town/investigative/(Add another category if you want)
In-game desc. : You are mail-deliverer who decided to break your oath of honesty in order to find the truth.

Abilities: Open someone's letters to find whether they are giving instructions to someone or receiving instructions from someone
(Optional idea : The mail system can be divided into Inbox and Outbox. This will be explained in later.)

    Setup Options:
    Can check 1 perosn's letters.
    Can check 2 person's letters.

    Game Mechanics explanation:
When the Mailer checks someone at night he will receive one of the following messages:
-Your target has sent an encrypted message to someone. He is giving instructions.
-Your target has received an encrypted message from someone. He is receiving instructions.
-Your target mail-box is empty. He is an independent Individual.
(Framed targets will give you a random message, similar to other investigative roles)

    Roles that gives instructions are:
    Godfather
    Consigleire
    Sheirff
    Investigator
    Detective

    Mason Leader
    Mayor

    Jailor
    Witch
Arsonist (For the sake of balance)

    Roles that receives instructions:
    Mafioso
    Blackmailer
    Consort

    Bodyguard
    Coroner
    Citizen
    Doctor
    Escort
    Mason

Amnesiac (Yes he receives instructions from his mental doctor or something.......)
    Cultist

    Roles that are independent:
    Bus driver
    Spy
    Vigilante
    Veteran
    Lookout
    Framer
    Disguiser
    Executioner
    Jester
    Survivor
    Serial Killer
    Mass Murderer

The idea of Inbox and Outbox:
Simply the Mailer will have two choices: to check the inbox or the outbox of a person.
If the target has something in his inbox, then it will say he receieved info. If he has something in his out box, It will say he sent info.
If he finds nothing, then the test is inconclusive and he has to check the other part of the box to make sure if the target is independent or not.
    Options:
Can check 2 person's outbox or inbox. ( Can't check both inbox and outbox of the same person)
Can check 3 person outbox or inbox.

    Re: Role : Mailer

You vastly understimate the Mailer abilities. The Mailer is a great lie detector. Here are some cases:
An arsonist claims busdriver. You know if he is an arsonist.
A blackmailer claims lookout. You know if he is a blackmailer.
Investigator says that someone is not suspicious. You know he is a godfather.
A witch claiming survivor. You know if he is a witch.
A mafioso claims vigilante. You know he is mafioso.
Someone says that a person is a member of mafia. You know if he is an exe or not.

    Re: Role : Mailer

I really see this role adding nothing to the game, to be honest. In your examples, 1,2 and 5, this can be achieved with a Sheriff/Invest combo instead of a Mailer/Invest combo, making this role only useful for:

Detecting GFs/Framers that are immune to detection
    Witches claiming Survivor
    Exes claiming Sheriff
    Jesters (In some cases).

That's it. These are the only scum that this role can catch in a lie that an Invest/Sheriff can't catch(Unless I missed something). So, really, this role is unneeded, as:

    1. Detect immune GFs/Framers are very easy to find already, as most saves do not include Cits.
    2. For Sheriff/Invest, this will be difficult, but any Detective can disprove this Surv claim.
3.Again, same as above, since Exe does nothing at night.
4.Depends on the case, and I'm not in the mood for figuring out exactly which case Mailer will or will not be useful in for Jesters.

So yeah. Everything that this role can do alone or in conjunction with another role, can already be done with existing roles. Sorry to have to shoot this down; I can tell you put some thought into it. Keep suggesting, though!

    Re: Role : Mailer

Mailman would have been a better name... maybe...

but yeah... role doesn't add much... other then being an bad Investigator that can maybe check more people at the same time... also memorizing the pairings on the role's ability could be troublesome...

on the good side... i do think i'd rather use this role then an Investigator in my setup if it was added... it leaves the game more open for lying than the Investigator does

    We realy don't need this.
