    ►►Re: ?KRC Welcome to the Loony Toon World◄◄

    Tbh this MVP vote is pretty difficult, lots of people had some really good plays.

    @WrathCyber For... putting his day one vote on someone who turned out to be scum? (Idk what else to say tbh, the necromancer posted on your account three times more often than you did yourself. xP)

    @Oberon Did such a good job of getting town-read day 1, that people were entertaining the idea that he was actually a town aligned mass murderer role even after there was a red-check claimed between him and another person.

    @BananaCucho Managing to be one of only like 4 people to actually get town-read on day 1 while the other 8/9 people were null/scum read

    @Renegade One of the few people to see through blink's deep wolfing on day 1 with the day 1 scum read

    @Frinckles Literally calling out 3 of the 5 scum with his "Evil Postal Service" theory

    @Marshmallow Marshall Had the flubb not have happened, he would have likely have ended up winning the game with a solo victory as a neutral faction - you don't see that often!

    @AIVION Managed to get basically universally town-read and also came up with an idea that would have killed a mafia while resurrecting two town - instantly flipping the game to a town win.

    @Varcron For defying his meta and managing to actually get town read day 1! So much so that mafia decided to use their KP on him!

    @blinkskater Played a sick deep wolf role getting most everyone to town-read him, if there's anyone in this game that could beat me in a CC role when I reveal as Honest Man, it'd probably be him.

    @Light_Yagami Managed to convince Lola to reveal her role to him + to reveal it to the town. Allowed for Yosemite to come in with the sick day-kill to stop the mafia from getting destroyed with a 3-player swing

    @PQRnHack For getting the kill on Lola mentioned earlier - saving mafia from a disaster scenario, all while being AWOL in the thread to make him the least likely suspect for it.

    But ultimately I think I'll

    -vote SuperJack

    @SuperJack In the last night he roleblocked one mafia and had the other mafia + the neutral in his deadly-killer twitch chat. Solid reads that landed his actions on 3 of the 4 remaining scum which ended up getting the mafia's KP killed. Would have ended up winning the game for town had it not been for host flubb (and my role suiciding on day 5, but that's a dumb mechanic, so I'm ignoring that)

    Also for the benefit of all future viewers of this KRC Game:

    Player Alias Alignment Role Role Submitted
    Wrath Bugs Bunny Town
    Spoiler : Homeless man/woman/it :
    HOST VERSION
    Role: Homeless man/woman/It

    You are simply a homeless man/woman/it idk we don't judge here. Set aside from the world you live in... You were outcasted from society and you lost it all. Because of this you had to rough it on the streets doing everything you could to survive and get yourself back on your feet.

    Attributes: You have no home and therefore no alignment. You are neutral. A simple homeless... thing or what have you. You have a few abilities you can call on from what you learned on the street and you can choose from them each night as your action. They are as follows:

    #1 Beg: You can target a player and ask them for some spare change. The host will roll a twenty sided dice. If it lands on 1-10 you get jack shit. Roll a 11-20 and the player you targeted will take pity on you and give you money. This action makes you feel good and helps you realize there are some good people in the world... or people who just gives you something so you can get out of their face faster. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

    #2 Steal: You can target a player and attempt to pick their pockets. if you are successful (same system as #1 only if you fail the player you tried to steal from will be notified that some homeless looking jackass tried to steal from them) You grab something from their pockets and get to keep it as an action which will turn this action into:
    #2a. Item use: You can use the item you stole. What the item is is randomized from the following list:
    1.) Piece of bread: You got a piece of bread... Tasty! you can keep it just in case a famine or some sort could happen and you feel hungry.
    2.) Money: You got some money from them. Nice! Maybe you can use this somehow to acquire something?
    3.) A Knife: You acquired a knife from them. Not bad not bad! you can use this knife to attack someone for +1 damage.
    4.) some lent: You got some lent out of their pants pockets (or whatever the hell the said player wears) Dang! That feelsbadman.
    5.) Drugs: you got some drugs from them! Far out! You use the drugs and get high as a kite! if you are bleeding or in pain of any kind you become numb to it and you are healed if you are attacked this night (warning don't do drugs kids Also this won't save you from a unstoppable attack of some kind just normal attacks).
    6.) Their ID: You stole this persons ID. Woah! You stare at it and can learn the persons role name. This only makes you realize that they are indeed better than you... but at least you can rest on the fact that you made them have to order a new ID and laugh yourself to sleep in your little cardboard box shack at the prospect of it.

    #3 Sell: You can target a player and attempt to sell them any kind of item you have on you (fail/success rate is the same as system 1 only you have to actually have some sort of item on you to sell to them). If you succeed they will be notified that they bought X item from some homeless looking bum last night.

    #4 Converse: you can choose to speak to a player at night, opening up a architect like anonymous chat with them. Up to the hosts how they wanna resolve that. You can talk to that player til the nights over then that player will realize that they are literally talking to human garbage and will walk away like they are better than you... and more than likely they are. Truth hurts man.
    Win con: Survive til the end. Gotta survive in this world man.

    #5 Take shelter: You can choose to do nothing and just retreat to your little homeless shack you created for yourself out in the slums. Doing so gives you a chance (system #1) To avoid any kind of role visiting you and doing an action upon you (This does NOT save you from attacks/actions that are otherwise unavoidable).

    Win con: Survive til the end. Gotta survive in this world man.

    Spoiler : Mailman with a surprise :
    Role: Mailman with a surprise. The mailman delivers! Each night, compose a message to send to a living player of your choice, love notes are encouraged. Terrorists have mixed 3 bombs into your deliveries (maybe YOU are the terrorist!). You must get rid of all 3 of them before D4 (end of N3) or you will blow harder than Miley Cyrus. In addition to your nightly love notes, select between 1 and 2 people to hand out "presents" to: they will have a nice blow to their face, and the damage will ricochet to anyone visiting them as well. You are too much of a pussy to manage to pick up 3 heavy bombs at once, so you can only do 1 or 2 per night.

    Spoiler : Necromancer :
    Role: Necromancer

    You are the necromancer. You have the ability to reanimate dead players

    Night action: Target one dead player for reanimation. You receive access to their account and can use it to post and vote the next day. You also are linked to the dead spirit through an anonymous chat for the duration of the spell

    ======================

    The following part of the role is NOT given to the player in their role card

    The necromancer is a novice and therefore their power is weak. At some point during the day the reanimated body will fail and they will lose access to it. Could be 24 hours into the day, could be six hours, could be 36 hours, could be ten minutes. And each day is different. Up to host when to remove access and how to determine. Will also lose access to anonymous chat with the dead spirit.

    When the reanimated body access is lost, no notification is given to game players that the body is decomposing and no longer playing. Current vote from the body is still in play and a legitimate vote.

    That being said, the dead reanimated player is not factored into player count when determining how many votes are required for lynch. For example if 13 players are alive, 7 votes are required for lynch. The dead player can vote but 7 votes are still required for lynch instead of 8, which would be normal for 14 alive players.

    The dead player is not listed in the alive players at day start and is definitely listed in the graveyard instead. The host will not answer any questions whatsoever about the dead player posting and voting. The host will simply ignore the question.

    The dead player can be lynched. If this happens, the player is resurrected and the original player regains access. This can only happen once per game. Future lynched dead players stay dead.

    Marshmallow Marshall Pepe Le Pew Neutral
    Spoiler : Politician :
    Politician
    You are a politician running for political office. Receive a plurality of votes in order to be elected to political office. Upon receiving this plurality you become the role of President for the rest of the game rather than being lynched! The usual end of day message announcing your death is replaced with:

    "The votes are in and counted! {YOUR NAME HERE} has been elected President!"

    Each night you may send campaign materials to other players. You may distribute 1600 junk-mail campaign ads, 800 campaign ad missed calls, 400 campaign stickers, 200 campaign yard signs, and 100 campaign TV commercials among all the players in the game, yourself included. There is no limit to how many campaign-related items a player can have. As these items are mailed directly to each player, their distribution does not count as a visitation and is immune to misdirections (eg bus/witch) unless the flavor of the role would dictate otherwise (e.g a Mailman role could redirect these items)

    With 5 players in the game, A, B, C, D, and E, an example distribution of items could be:
    A - 800 junk mail, 400 ads, 200 stickers, 100 yard signs, 50 commercials
    B - 400 junk mail, 200 ads, 100 stickers, 50 yard signs, 25 commercials
    C - 200 junk mail, 100 ads, 50 stickers, 0 yard signs, 0 commercials
    D - 199 junk mail, 99 ads, 49 stickers, 0 yard signs, 24 commercials
    E - 1 junk mail, 1 ad, 1 sticker, 1 yard sign, 1 commercial

    (Note: Yard Signs = 100 + 50 + 1 = 151, it does not add up to 200 since all campaign material does not have to be used)

    Campaign material does nothing and is useless to the player that receives it other than receiving a message from the host notifying that they have received hundreds of campaign items.

    Spoiler : President :
    President
    You are the president. During the day you may propose a piece of legislation by messaging the host a rule change. The host has the right to overrule your legislation, so make sure to start the conversation for your proposed legislation early. At the start of the night, the host DMs every player announcing that a piece of legislation has been proposed by the president with the following message:

    Your elected President, {YOUR NAME HERE}, has proposed a piece of legislation, please vote "Yay!" or "Nay!" on this item:
    {RULE CHANGE HERE}

    The host will not answer any clarification questions on what this message means or the implications of it. If the player does not send a message that night that is exactly "Yay!" or "Nay!" it is counted as an unreadable ballot / abstained ballot. If the player sends messages that night of both "Yay!" and "Nay!" the ballot is counted as unreadable due to both options being marked. Replacement ballots are not available. Players are unaware of these requirements.

    Democratically chosen legislation rule changes continue, even after the President dies.

    The President is protected by the Secret Service. If the President is attacked at night then the Secret Service will intercept this attack (they do not kill the attacker, they simply take the bullet for the President) and go on high alert, preventing the President from being killed that night. The President uses this attack on their life to justify a reform in the government and the President becomes the Dictator for the rest of the game.

    Spoiler : Dictator :
    Dictator
    After the attack on your life, you have taken total control of the government. Each day you draft a new law by messaging the host a rule change. The host has the right to overrule your law, so make sure to start the conversation for your new law early. At the start of the night, the host DMs every player announcing a new law will go into effect the following day with the message:

    Your democratically elected President experienced an attack on their life on Night {NIGHT-THEY-WERE-ATTACKED}. They have used this as justification to reform the government and they are now Dictator {YOUR-NAME-HERE}. They have drafted a new law to go into effect tomorrow:
    {RULE CHANGE HERE}

    The host will not answer any clarification questions on what this message means or the implications of it. The law goes into effect at the next SoD.

    If the Dictator is killed at any point in the game. All laws that they have created while Dictator will immediately be repealed as democracy returns. Although any laws that were democratically passed while they were President remain in effect for the rest of the game.
    At the start of each day a living, non-Dictator, player is randomly selected by the host. This player receives the following message:

    You have been cleared by the Dictator's security detail to have a one-on-one meeting with Dictator {YOUR-NAME-HERE} tonight. This kind of one-on-one meeting is a rare privilege, a time when the Dictator has their guard down, if you have any discontent with them, this may provide an opportunity for you to assassinate them If you accept this invitation then you will be unable to speak in any other night chats you may normally participate in and you also for-go the opportunity to use your night actions. You will also be safe among the Dictator's security detail and will be immune to night attacks tonight from other players. Do you accept?

    Note: The visiting player may still die to the Dictator themselves if the Dictator has gained a night killing ability in any way. The Dictator killing a player in this way is unblockable, unhealable, and pierces night immunity. It is meant to be taking place in a secure compound so other players interfering with the kill generally should not affect the kill, but it is up to the hosts discretion on what affects this kill or not.
    If they accept the invitation then a night chat between the Dictator and that player immediately opens. The player receives the following message:

    As you enter the Dictator's chambers you look around the room and notice an antique Chekhov's gun on the wall. At any time you may go over to the gun and use it to assassinate the dictator by messaging the following in the night chat with the Dictator:

    I approach the Chekhov's gun on the wall and use it to assassinate the Dictator

    The Dictator's security detail will surely kill you immediately afterwards for this assassination. If you choose to assassinate the Dictator in this way then both your death and the Dictator's death will be unhealable, unblockable, and unpreventable in any way. They are the equivalent of a mod-kill.

    The next morning it will be announced that {VISITING-PLAYER'S-NAME-HERE} assassinated the Dictator, and while the assassination was unable to be prevented in time, {VISITING-PLAYER'S-NAME-HERE} was quickly neutralized by the Dictator's security detail.

    You are a member of Eternity - a secretive organization that uses time travel to change the past in order to reduce human suffering throughout the ages.
    This organization exists outside of time, and is not affected by temporal changes.
    You are a high ranking member in Eternity - a Technician, responsible for determining the Minimum Necessary Changes for altering reality to a more preferable outcome. You are one of the few individuals directly capable of and entrusted with changing the timeline.

    Each night, you may target a player and change their target in one of the previous nights, or you can change a player's vote during one of the previous days. Note that this means that on N1 you cannot change any targets. If changing a player's vote results in someone else getting lynched, the person who got lynched comes back to life, and that "someone else" dies.

    Once per game, you can jump into a Kettle (a temporal elevator) and go into "Up"-time, rendering you fully immune to all night actions. This action always comes first in the OoO, and you cannot be roleblocked by anyone when taking this action. People attempting to visit you get the feedback that you vanished off the face of the Earth.

    Hidden Info: When jumping into a Kettle, you can still die by being launched into the sun.

    Spoiler : Efekaan02 is not an Albanian :
    Rolename: "Efekannn02 is not an Albanian"
    At the start of the game a message displays called: "Do not incur the wrath of Efekannn02!"

    Anyone (except the roleholder) who says the word "Albania" or any of its variations like for example "Albanian" alongside the name "Efekannn02" or any of its variations in one post gets one of their items mugged the following night and the roleholder may use these items at their own free will the next day (if no items were stolen the roleholder gets the item called "Efekannn02's txt Folder" and the mugged person gets roleblocked the next night)

    Those who get mugged also get injected with a poison that will force the poisoned to say "Efekannn02 is a German, I am sorry." atleast once in their every post. Failure to say that sentence in a post or the usage of the word "Albania" by the poisoned will result in activation the poison and lead to the Death of ALL of the poisoned people poisoned by this role (even if the post is simply just a vote with no text they still have to put the sentence in there or the poison will activate)

    Upon injection of the poison the person injected may know what sentence they have to say in their every post and may know to never ever use the word "Albania" again for the duration of the game but they cannot know that activation of the poison will kill EVERYONE poisoned and not just oneself

    "Efekannn02's txt Folder" is an wildcard with infinite charges but limited to one use per day/night that may do the following things:
    When used at night:
    25% chance someone random other than yourself dies
    25% chance all actions directed towards you will reflect
    25% chance both of the above
    24% nothing
    1% You alongside two random people alive share a permanent chat and become a cult and may recruit a new member every night with the goal being to recruit everyone (may only happen once)

    When used at day:
    25% chance to get double votes for one day
    25% chance the host has to display a message called "Efekannn02 says:" and then put a lorem ipsum sentence with a random number of words between 20 and 50
    25% chance both of the above
    15% chance no one gets lynched and the next day start post has to have all the names switched up
    10% for nothing
    [8:58 PM]
    -Multiple people may be mugged per night
    -Multiple "Efekannn02's txt Folder"s do not stack but the Roleholder may use other items alongside it

    Ability: You cannot be de-platformed and love money. Like, you really love money. At night you may invite two people to join you in a semi-private stream (chat.) Their names and roles will be anonymous and so will yours. You must ask them to bid the highest amount of money they can from $1-$10,000, and the amount with the highest number will die. In the event of a tie-breaker, the better looking one wins (host discretion.) You cannot mention anything about this game except wanting more money. You can however tempt them further by "whoops I dropped my computer mouse" -- or whatever you can improvise. Remember, you cannot under any circumstances be de-platformed so you can also not be roleblocked and the effects of this ability cannot be stopped because, you are just living your best life! You may use this ability once. You can also promote your stream to a player at night and roleblock them.

    Attack Value: 0.5 (meaning you must attack the same person with normal defense value, i.e. 1, to kill it; all roles with unspecified defense values are considered to have a defense value of 1)

    You are a Citizen of the Republic. In your mind, at least. You believe everyone should be a Citizen. Yes, even Citizen Louis Capet. You are ready to share your revolutionary ideals with those willing to hear it... and with the unwilling, too.

    You may attack a player with your bare fists every night. Since you are strenghtened by the will of the People, you may attack someone and perform any other actions in the same night. (Note that "attack" here means "use the 0.5 attack value ability from your role", and does not refer to any other form of attack, such as item-provided attacks, which follow their own rules.)

    Ability: On night 0, you may select a target. Should this target be lynched or daykilled, you will gain the ability Launch a Revolution. Should this target be killed through other means, you will be able to pick another target.
    As a revolutionary, you are very well aware of the way your current government works. Should there be a slot with the word King, Dictator or Emperor in its role name, you will automatically pick it as your target and will not be given a choice; if there is more than one of those slots, your target will be randomized between them.

    Ability: Once per game, if you have successfully seen your target lynched or daykilled, you gain the ability to Launch a Revolution during the night, giving you an additional vote and getting you announced as President of the Republic at the start of the next day. You will also gain a one-use autovest (presidential security!) that gives you an additional defense value point (+1). If a new King, Dictator or Emperor rises to power you lose this power until they are eliminated.

    You have night immunity so long as at least one Krabby Disciple lives

    If you are lynched, all Krabby Disciples will die with you

    Spoiler : Conspiracy Theorist :
    Role card: Conspiracy Theorist (Town)
    Active Abilities
    During the First hour of the game you may post a conspiracy theory (aka a reads list) containing All players labeled as either "Town", "Neutral" or "Scum". At the start of that night you will be told if there are any non-town roles among the players you labeled as "Scum" in your conspiracy theory. With the feedback:

    "You have at least one scum in your scum category!"

    Or

    "You Know, you suck at reads"

    Creating your conspiracy theory requires building a conspiracy theory board (see role image). In doing this you use up all the paper in your house and need to go get more. Each night you may go to another person's house to steal EVERY single piece of paper they own. After collecting three players sets of paper you may make another Reads list within the first hour Of the day. If you visit a house that you've visited before - then you receive no paper as you've already stolen it all!

    (Note: paper is not an item, it is a charge associated with this role and therefore item-affecting abilities do not interact with it)

    If you fail to post your List within the first hour of a day then you must wait until the first hour of the following day to post your list. Failing a second time, you wait until the next day, if you fail again, then wait again, Etc - eventually you'll remember to log on in the first hour of the day!

    However! Once no enemies survive to scum read - you go insane from the lack of purpose in life and immediately commit suicide. If you were the last survivor, then it is possible for this instant suicide to lead to a "nobody wins" outcome.

    Passive Ability:
    As a conspiracy theorist you also have kept a keen eye out for information that ties players to roles. Every time a player dies you connect the role the dead player submitted with the name of a player in the game using some string on your conspiracy board. You will be told the name (but not the alignment) of the owner of the role that the dead player submitted.

    Win-con: You win only with Town You can not win if anyone but town is alive.

    Here's my theory for what would have happened:

    Wile E Coyote has a redcheck on Sylvester, breadcrumbed Honest Man role in my fake role card. Thunderdome with Sylvester, he'll try to CC Honest Man, but with him bread crumbing a killing role, he probably doesn't win that thunderdome.

    I know Pepe / Marshmallow Marshall is politician so I encourage Foghorn to RB Marvin instead, while I check Marvin (no reason to check Pepe as if he's scum then it's an auto loss since he's unlynchable) - I see Marvin is not town, so day 4 we take out Marvin - but the game doesn't end? So going into night 4 I check Pepe and see he's not town, no one has any useful night actions, so day 5 starts. We vote up Pepe, but he's politician and so he survives the lynch while Wile gets BANNED from the ZZOrange role.

    1v1 with Pepe as President vs Foghorn - Politician solo win!

You have peak lobbies around 5-17 (~440 games per day) compared to the latest data gathered on your bar graph 7-12 (~225 games per day). Any idea? cos I have. This also proves that the majority of players here are adults (normally we should see an influx of players around this season.. Most games showed a positive monthly gain (%) but what happened here is quite the opposite).
    The lobby bot was down for a bit on the week of 7-12. So that's why that bar is down so much.

    The number of players actually banned from the game due to rule changes is extremely small compared to the size of the playerbase. It is very doubtful that this change had any significant impact.

    A better line of questioning would be, what caused the game's popularity to decline from October to November last year? What caused the popularity to increase again in the March to May stretch of time? How do these trends correlate with the size of the SC2 playerbase?

    And ultimately there will be natural fluctuations in player count due to a multitude of external forces - independent from any centralized decisions made by the staff or the community

So yeah, I slightly disagree with you cos its really fun.

    Ur right.. But gamethrowing should be carefully tread. I renamed a lot of gamethrowing replays cos it's fun to watch from time to time. But I never submit them cos I know punishing them will greatly affect the player base.

    But yeah.. The question is.. Is it worth it though..? Enforcing WL/BL against racism, slurs, etc at the expense of killing the player base? I mean.. Compared to April 2021~ or earlier versus today. The lobby takes ages to fill up now.

    Aamirus expresses her opinion on the matter that it's quite the opposite cos there are more lobbies created.. But the thing here is, more lobbies created == more lobbies failed to fill-up == less playerbase.

    Let's not kid ourselves.. If we really wanted a "clean" game, we are playing town of salem, not the sc2 arcade.

    Also, I assure you that most of the player base here are already adults.. where they returned from the game for the sake of nostalgia. Let's accept it, the RTS era is dead. Most kids are into Minecraft, MOBAs, Battle Royale, FPS, newly released AAA games, and whatever those popular twitch channels are playing.

    Paopan out.
    Ideally, these players don't get banned, they just get warned (watch listed) at first and then stop spamming slurs. And that works in probably the large majority of cases. Only a minority of that 2% of players that frequently use slurs continue to use them after being warned for it. I believe that removing less than 1% of the playerbase who refuses to stop using racial slurs will hardly have an effect on the game's activity.

    On the topic of the game's activity, here is the number of full lobbies per week since the start of this year when the SC2 Arcade came back online:

    Something worth noting is that there has been a very notable drop in activity since April/May. Is this because of rule changes wrt racism? Probably not IMO, but what could be causing it is an interesting discussion nonetheless.

    Mostly kids play this game and they think it’s hilarous to say a slur to rile someone up and start a commotion. I have no issue with people reporting it and getting banned. I think that behavior should be removed from the game. Hopefully, it will calm down soon.
    Ideally people using racial slurs in game don't have to be banned - they get warned (watchlisted) and then they stop and just play like everyone else.

    Dataset courtesy of aamirus, not sure what I am at liberty to say with respect to how it was gathered.

    As for extracting the chats from the set of replays - I wrote a python script to convert all the replays to text files, removed invalid data points (eg duplicate replays, lobbies that didn't have enough players to even count, etc) and then extracted the chat logs from all of those replays.

    I used https://github.com/Blizzard/s2protocol for the library to extract info from sc2 replay files.

    No special search algorithms needed, the default text search algorithm implemented in most programming languages is plenty fast for these purposes.
    It took a very long time (several hours) to convert all the sc2 replay files into text logs - but that is more a bottleneck of the s2protocol than any code I wrote.
    Because that conversion took so long though - I made sure to do the analysis in two phases, first convert all the replays to text logs with the meta data I needed for analysis included alongside the chat logs and save those logs as txt files. And then just do an analysis of those .txt files which are orders of magnitude faster to read than sc2replay files.

    Anyway, OP seems young and much less-informed about game theory than they are now - there is no pure game theory solution to guarantee a win.

    But this problem is still interesting, even if it doesn't have a clear-cut solution.

    As others have noted your biggest threat is the SK.

    So at night you tell both killing roles to not attack anyone. The SK has nothing to gain by listening to you, which is why you make a comment at night such as "And Mr. Executioner, let's continue with our plan, we vote up whichever person ignored our plan"

    The GF has nothing to gain by attacking, so they very likely won't attack in this instance. And the only way the SK loses is by getting voted up the following day, the presence of two other neutral roles ensures that this is always a risk since the SK can't kill both. So the goal of the Judge should be to maximize the perceived probability that the SK will be voted up if they defect from the Judge's orders. Implying that the executioner is already on-board with the plan is a good method to maximize the doubt in the SK's mind.

    And then if you survive the night, who cares what you do, court one, win with the other.

    (Oh and you definitely don't reveal who you are if roles haven't been publicly outed - just increases the risk of dying to an SK that is willing to gamble with the executioner)

    Also any discussion on inflation would be incomplete without a mention of the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCE) which is under the purview of the US Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis.

    The PCE is arguably a better indicator for macro-economic inflation (for various reasons, which I won't get into - it's a rabbit hole in it of itself), as it's also the metric that the Federal Reserve uses as its inflation barometer.

    Not to say that the CPI is unimportant, social security benefits are adjected using the CPI which has rippling effects throughout the economy - but for talks about macroeconomic inflation the PCE is generally a better metric. (But even then, the two are highly correlated anyway)

    Where you seem misguided is in assuming that the observations you have made are necessarily attributed to inflation rather than other factors.

    And are operating under the assumption that either:
    1. Your observations are wrong in some way
    2. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics is wrong

    But this is not the case - there is a third option:

    • 3. There is some other explanation for your observations that is separate from inflation

    And the existence of this third option makes the answer your question of if you should go conspiracy hunting: a clear and resounding "no."

    It is incredibly unlikely that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics is wrong or covering something up, and instead it is almost certainly the case that there are other economics forces at play - and investigating the forces at play in your observations (rather than jumping to the conclusion that it's inflation and the CPI is wrong) would uncover some very interesting economic trends.

    And doing a dive into uncovering these reasons could definitely be worth the effort - for example the 2x4 price increase. Doing a dive into why 2x4's have become so expensive reveals that it is driven by a lumber shortage - which is caused not by a shortage of trees, nor a shortage of production capacity, but rather the combination of lumber tariffs, pandemic driven demand for lumber in remodeling, housing shortages, and the lumber industry's misreading of the implications of the pandemic.

    In fact, most of the things you've raised concerns over aren't even being primarily caused by inflation - they're being caused by gentrification / rapidly rising land values:

    • Your neighbor's rent went up significantly
    • Your home has more than doubled in value
    • Groceries are getting much more expensive
    • Local dining is getting more expensive
    • In Texas - a state with a booming real estate market

The same foods I picked up when I traveled to California for work went from roughly 110$ to 240$. My neighbors rent just went from 750$ to 1250$. The cost of a 2x4 in January of last year was roughly 2.50$ and it jumped to around 10$ but now dropped to 7.90$. I see the same disconnect in online listings and real pricing.

    There is this part of me that has been focused on understanding how much of what I perceive is wrong in this world is just in my head but then I see stuff saying Inflation and CPI has only gone up by 5% and my mind just outright rejects it because of what I see around me. I can accept that CPI does not account for the scalping and such going on where a 3080's MSRP is 700$ but to buy one you gotta cough up 2k but those numbers look totally fucked to me when I walk out of a grocery store.
    "Statistics are invisible; anecdotes are salient."

    Many of your anecdotes are most likely comparing apples to oranges... figuratively and literally.

    And for the ones that aren't comparing apples to oranges - there are countless other explanations for an increase in price that are unrelated to economy-wide 100+% inflation rates.

    On the most basic level I feel like when you snap trillions of dollars into existence in a fiat currency inflation happens which is reflected in consumer prices but the numbers are showing something very different.
    You're not wrong, printing money in a fiat currency causes inflation. There has been inflation in the consumer good price index, in fact inflation is at the highest rate since Jun-Aug 2008, and since 1991 before that.

    Particularly salient anecdotes have just suggested a magnitude to the inflation which is much higher than the true value.

    There is this part of me that has been focused on understanding how much of what I perceive is wrong in this world is just in my head but then I see stuff saying Inflation and CPI has only gone up by 5% and my mind just outright rejects it because of what I see around me
    This is admittedly something that many people do struggle with - a conflict between their conclusions based on anecdotal observations and statistical facts.

    Just wondering if anyone here has any real understanding on whats going on there or if I should deep dive into my loony toons conspiracy hunting nonsense at some point.
    There is a lot to unpack here.

    For reference let's look at what goes into the CPI:

    Spending twice as much on gas and food is likely either confirmation bias or hyperbole as the prices on gas and food have not doubled.

    Gas
    Retail Gasoline prices have increased from an average of $2.170/gal in Jun 2020 to $3.157/gal in Jun 2021 - a 45% increase - but this doesn't tell the whole story, since the price of gas during the pandemic was depressed due to low demand. Going back to January of 2020 and the price was $2.636/gal - so only a 20% increase since then. Not nearly as much as a 45% increase.

    Although despite that fact - the CPI does work on a 12 month rolling window - and the CPI has the increase in fuel price at 50.8% - way higher than the 5% CPI. This discrepancy is explained when you look at the relative importance of Fuel Prices in the CPI with Energy Commodities only contributing 3.809% to a households expenditures.

    Food
    The aggregate price of food at home has not changed much.

    The area that has seen a substantially larger increase in food prices is the Food away from Home category - which has seen an increase of 4.0% and when you narrow it down to limited service meals, that increase is 6.1%. Someone that eats out a lot at take-out places will notice significant inflation compared to someone that cooks all their food at home. Speculating here because I haven't dug up any concrete data on it, but I suspect this is driven by the shortage of minimum wage workers who work all throughout the limited service meals industry.

    Building Materials
    Building materials are not included in the CPI - the way they might affect it is through housing prices - but building material cost is several degrees separated from housing prices. Furthermore the significant spike in building materials costs (e.g Lumber) has been driven moreso by a shortage than by inflation.

    Then where did all that money go?
    A valid question would then be, if prices haven't increased that much outside of the 50+% increase in fuel prices, where did all the money go, why haven't they increased more?

    The answer to this has to do with a concept known as the velocity of money. The velocity of money basically measures the rate at which money cycles through the economy. A high velocity of money means consumer spending is high, money is flowing quickly through the economy and not spending much time in savings accounts before being spent. Whereas a low velocity of money is the opposite.

    The supply-side shortage caused by the pandemic has created an economy with a very low velocity of money - so a lot of money just sitting in savings accounts, and money sitting in savings accounts isn't being spent on goods and therefore doesn't affect the prices of those goods.

    Except not really.

    Because that money hasn't just been sitting in savings accounts - it's been put into stock and bond markets. Which is why the S&P 500 has continued to reach record high after record high. Inflation has occurred - just not primarily in basic consumer goods (which is what the CPI measures) - rather inflation has manifested itself in the stock market.

    So then to answer your main question:

    Should this be something you are concerned about?
    Concerned? I don't know, if you want to be concerned, sure, go for it. But as long as you have your savings parked somewhere that's historically been a good hedge against inflation (eg real estate or stocks... or gold if you're one of those people) then you'll probably be fine. (Oh and just hope there's not a stock market bubble and then crash, or another real estate crash - but IMO a real estate crash seems very unlikely, at least when compared to the possibility of a stock market bubble)

    The Federal Reserve has stated that it is possible that there could be a period of uncomfortably high inflation coming, and they have adjusted accordingly by moving up their timeline on interest rate hikes. Which in turn has had rippling effects throughout the global economy with many emerging markets mirroring the change with interest rate hikes of their own.

    But nothing at the doomsday conspiracy theory level.

    ===

    Some additional considerations:

    Geographic Region
    I noticed your location is set to Texas. The CPI measures prices in 23 metro areas in the US, two of the metros are in Texas (Houston and Dallas) The prices are aggregated bi-monthly for the two cities alternating months between the two. The city that was aggregated in May was Dallas and their CPI was at 6.3% compared to the national average of 5.0% Of the metros that were measured in May, Dallas had the highest inflation rate of them all.

    Lag
    CPI lags by a month. The current CPI is for May. June CPI is scheduled to be released on July 13th

    In theory those kills all make sense but in FM it's better to just keep the people who are actively trying to mislynch (blink, yagami) alive until the end.
    @Light_Yagami stated in the death chat that he was going to vote Yuesford no matter what and was just baiting, and everyone read Yagami as town - I think that was clever play by Light, but also ultimately a good kill on Yuesford's part.
    Also it's hard to say that killing a player that is as strong as @blinkskater when they're confirmed town is a bad decision - I don't know how much stock I'd take in the idea that he would continue mislynching, could easily see him turning around and solving the game if he's left alive.

    His plan nearly worked too - you said yourself that you were 98% certain that ceko was the mafia.

    Well played though to @Yuesford - I don't think I'm able to vote for MVP because I had to sub out of the game before it even began - but Yuesford gets my vote - taking the game so far and getting so close to winning when his teammates were eliminated days 1 and 2.
    -vote Yuesford

    Basically this, being able to self-confirm is a very strong ability on its own.

    A role which can give out an item that does nothing is already stronger than half of the town-roles. Speaking of which, what if there were a role that could give out an item that does nothing? Like a fruit-smith?

    Elector is neutral evil, if you want something to keep them in check you have to add a town role to counteract them, another neutral vote-manipulator role isn't going to keep an elector in check - it'll collaborate with elector.

    So if town does a mislynch and all three mafia shoot, yes it will technically be 3v3, but all three town still have their shots to take out mafia and regain majority

    ►►Re: S-FM Bisected Souls (10-20P)◄◄

    So I wrote some code to simulate 100,000 games of this setup without the ability to spend tokens - to try to see how many tokens players will get to spend anyway.

    Lynches and token distributions were given randomly, except corrupted souls always gave their token to their teammate when they could, and the lost soul always gave its token to whoever it was about to kill (so as to throw away their token).

    Here were the results for how many tokens players received on average:

    Player 0 is lost soul, Players 1+2 are corrupted
    Code:
    Player 0 has received: 2.006 tokens on average
    Player 1 has received: 7.607 tokens on average
    Player 2 has received: 7.601 tokens on average
    Player 3 has received: 1.802 tokens on average
    Player 4 has received: 1.792 tokens on average
    Player 5 has received: 1.801 tokens on average
    Player 6 has received: 1.802 tokens on average
    Player 7 has received: 1.802 tokens on average
    Player 8 has received: 1.791 tokens on average
    Player 9 has received: 1.804 tokens on average
    When tokens are just given randomly, on average players will never even get enough tokens to buy a single item.

    But more relevant would be to look at the histogram to see how often players reach certain thresholds. Histogram 0 is for the lost soul, 1 is for the corrupted souls, 2 is for regular souls:

    Code:
    Histogram 0
    0 : 21.249%
    1 : 20.621%
    2 : 22.781%
    3 : 17.798%
    4 : 10.316%
    5 : 4.865%
    6 : 1.691%
    7 : 0.523%
    8 : 0.115%
    9 : 0.037%
    10 : 0.003%
    11 : 0.001%
    Histogram 1
    0 : 11.355%
    2 : 11.550%
    4 : 15.092%
    6 : 14.747%
    8 : 13.367%
    10 : 10.429%
    12 : 7.315%
    14 : 4.907%
    16 : 3.401%
    18 : 2.568%
    20 : 1.825%
    22 : 1.360%
    24 : 0.919%
    26 : 0.561%
    28 : 0.331%
    30 : 0.166%
    32 : 0.068%
    34 : 0.030%
    36 : 0.009%
    38 : 0.004%
    40 : 0.001%
    Histogram 2
    0 : 27.783%
    1 : 24.142%
    2 : 19.628%
    3 : 13.005%
    4 : 7.446%
    5 : 3.988%
    6 : 2.036%
    7 : 1.056%
    8 : 0.515%
    9 : 0.239%
    10 : 0.099%
    11 : 0.041%
    12 : 0.014%
    13 : 0.005%
    14 : 0.001%
    15 : 0.001%
    16 : 0.000%
    18 : 0.000%
    Most relevant is looking at Histogram 2 - regular players very rarely get more than even 3 tokens to buy any of the more expensive items.

    And because there are no protective roles, the players can't coordinate to pool all their tokens on one player - since then the Lost Soul can just kill that player.

    Here's the code if anyone wants to mess around with the simulation:

    Code:
    import java.util.*;

    public class Bisected {
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            int[] cumTokens = new int[10];
            int[][] histogram = new int[100][3];
            int numGames = 100000;
            for(int i=0; i 0) System.out.printf("%d : %.3f%%\n", j, percent);
                }
            }
        }

        static int[] simulateGame(boolean verbose) {
            boolean[] alive = new boolean[10];
            Arrays.fill(alive, true);
            int[] tokens = new int[10];
            int numAlive = 10;

            while(!isGameOver(alive)) {
                // Day
                int lynch = selectTarget(alive, -1, numAlive);
                alive[lynch] = false;
                if(verbose) System.out.println("Player " + lynch + " was lynched.");
                numAlive--;

                if(isGameOver(alive)) break;

                // Night
                // Corrupted - if other corrupted is alive, give tokens, else give randomly
                if(alive[1] && alive[2]) {
                    tokens[1] += 2;
                    tokens[2] += 2;
                    if(verbose) System.out.println("Player 1 gives Player 2 (2 tokens)");
                    if(verbose) System.out.println("Player 2 gives Player 1 (2 tokens)");
                }
                for(int i=1; i 2 || !alive[1] || !alive[2]) {
                        if(alive[i]) {
                            int target = selectTarget(alive, i, numAlive);

    [New Role] ►►Re: Delegator (Neutral Benign)◄◄

    So basically they're a:
    Neutral Benign roleblocker/1-night Framer
    Their win condition is to get X successful solo-roleblocks (as in the target wasn't also role-blocked by someone else)

    Comparing this role to the other neutral benign roles:
    Jester / Executioner - able to pursue their win condition from basically the start of the game, executioner also has an option for night immunity
    Survivor - has several nights of night immunity
    Amnesiac - is able to join a team so they don't have to survive more than 2 nights without night immunity

    In comparison to the other neutral benign roles, I feel like Delegator will feel a lot like a Survivor with no vests, just crossing their fingers hoping they don't get killed.
    Delegator could theoretically reveal in order to avoid having scum kill them, but town really has no reason to keep a neutral role blocker/framer alive - since odds are you're going to do more harm than good, so it's an easy lynch on a non-town when there are no other leads. Survivor already has a hard enough time not getting auto-lynched from an early reveal, and survivor doesn't even screw with town.

    So here's an idea for the role:
    Make it a neutral evil role, but rather than needing to get X delegations to win - instead every time they successfully delegate someone, they have the option to "spend this money" to rig the system to give them an extra vote for each person they've delegated.

    So if they've successfully delegated 2 times, then during the day they can type -delegate and their day vote will silently increase to 3 from 1.

    A role similar to Elector in its vote rigging shenanigans

    Also, for all intents and purposes other than flavor, green XCOM = mafia and red advent = town?

    How are you identifying slurs?

    I'd also note you aren't including player selected names themselves.

    Additionally, I'd note that while you identify a small number of games with high slur rates, being in one of those games pretty much ruins it.

    There is no way to tell if a player is alive and spamming racial slurs in game, or dead and spamming them in death chat, so this might be a bit more difficult to test than it might initially seem.

    That said, it would certainly be possible to determine statistics based on the percentage of messages a player sends which contain a slur, although I suspect this is more likely to detect people using racial slurs as a vehicle to grief and spam as opposed to people that just use racial slurs often while still playing the game. I'll message you with more details

    ►►Re: A Statistical Analysis of Racism Across 10,790 Replays◄◄

    Raw aggregate data is available upon request.

    Post reserved for answering any questions / providing clarifications that might arise.

    How are slurs identified?
    Code:
                    for slur in slurs:
                        if slur in line.lower():
                            # marked as as a message with a slur
    This does nothing to detect obfuscated slurs (although given that using slurs was previously not against the rules, there was little reason for people to obfuscate their slurs).
    This also technically double counts messages that have multiple different slurs in the message. Working as intended.

    Are player selected names counted?
    Yes, player selected names appear as chat messages in the extracted chat logs, therefore they are counted. Although they are not given any additional weight over other regular chat messages.

    ►►A Statistical Analysis of Racism Across 10,790 Replays◄◄

    The Dataset
    The dataset consists of 10,790 replays spanning a period of over 8 years, with the majority of the replays occurring between April 2017 and June 2020.

    Among these 10,790 games, there were 15,769 unique players. Below is the distribution of players based on the number of games they have played within the dataset. This is an important distinction, a player could have played 1000 games of mafia, but if they only appear in a single replay within the dataset, then they will appear in the "1 game played within dataset" category.

    Slur Usage by Player - Number of Slurs
    In this section the total number of messages a player sent that contain a slur are aggregated for that player across all games in which they appear in the dataset.

    For example, a player with the following chat logs would have a score of 3. Even though one of their messages contains two slurs, this is not double-counted to avoid skewing the dataset.
    Code:
    Game 1:
    Player: {slur} {slur}
    Player: hello world
    Player: {slur}
    Code:
    Game 2:
    Player: {slur}

    Zooming in on just the top 5% of the previous graph:

    Slur Usage by Player - Number of Games
    An alternative way to analyze the data is to count the number of games in which a given player used a slur.

    For example, a player that has played 1000 games in the dataset where they used 0 slurs in 999 of those games, but used a slur 200 times in a single game would appear in the top category in the previous section, but would only appear in the "1 game in which player used a slur" category in this section.

    Again, zooming in on the top 5%:

    Slur Usage by Game
    This section maps the distribution of games based on the number of messages containing slurs sent by all players within the game.

    The following game would have a score of 4 as there were 4 messages sent that contain slurs.
    Code:
    Player 1: Hello World
    Player 2: {slur} {slur}
    Player 2: {slur} {slur} {slur}
    Player 3: {slur}
    Player 4: Hello World
    Player 2: {slur}

    Preliminary Observations
    • 90.95% of players never used a slur across all of their games
    • 96.11% of players never used a slur in more than one game
    • The top 1.89% of players based on number of slurs used contribute 89.20% of all slurs used

    This raises the question: what would the statistics look like if these repeat offenders were filtered from the dataset?

    Slur Usage by Game - Filtering Chronic Offenders
    Players that have used a slur in more than 3 games are flagged as "chronic offenders" for the purposes of the filter.

    These chronic offenders make up the top 1.89% (denoted as Top 2% in graphics for the sake of brevity) of players in the dataset by number of games in which they used a slur.

    Two different filtering methods are used.

    Method 1: Ignore all messages sent by players in the top 1.89%
    In this method all messages sent by the filtered players are simply ignored.

    Method 2: Remove games from the dataset in which a filtered player used a slur
    The hypothesis behind this method is that there are knock-on effects from the usage of slurs by these chronic offenders - a chronic offender using slurs in game is likely to increase the probability that a non-chronic offender uses a slur in that game as well.

    Take the following chat log:
    Code:
    Player 1: {slur} {slur} {slur}
    Player 2: Player 1, please don't say "{slur}"
    In Method 1, Player 2 would still be flagged for using a slur. Therefore Method 2 seeks to reduce this factor by omitting games entirely in which filtered players used slurs.

    This method filtered out 30.19% of the games from the dataset (3257 out of 10790)

    Zooming in on the top 10%:

    Unrelated Offenses of Chronic Offenders
    This section is motivated behind the hypothesis that chronic offenders with respect to slur usage also tend to be problematic players in other aspects of the game.

    The metric used to test this hypothesis measured the number of games in which a player used a slur above the average rate.

    This metric accomplishes two things:
    1. It ignores players that have a high Slur Games / Total Games ratio simply due to the fact that they have played a low number of games. For example a player with 3 games in the data set in which they used a slur in all 3 games would have a 100% slur games / total games ratio - but the actual impact of their slur usage on the community itself is minimal as they only appeared in 3 games.
    2. It ignores players that have a high number of slur games only by virtue of having a high number of games. For example a player with 18 slur games would rank in the top 0.5% of players based on number of games in which they used a slur, but if this player has 1000 games within the dataset, they are still well below the average rate of slur usage.

    After ordering the players using this metric of number of slur games above the average rate:
    • Every player in the top 20 has had a report filed against them
    • 18 of the top 20 players have had a report approved against them for unrelated offenses
    • 16 of the top 20 players have been watchlisted for unrelated offenses
    • 7 of the top 12 players have been banlisted for unrelated offenses
    • 4 of the top 12 players have been permabanned for unrelated offenses

    Unfortunately these statistics need to be checked manually, and therefore a more comprehensive analysis is not viable at this time. However these preliminary results are strong evidence in favor of the hypothesis that chronic offenders when it comes to slur usage are also chronic offenders when it comes to other offenses.

    (Thank you to the staff for helping with these statistics!)

    Key Observations
    • The overwhelming majority of players do not use slurs at all
      • 90.95% of players used zero slurs across all their game
      • Only 3.18% of players used more than 3 slurs across all of their games
      • Only 1.89% of players used a slur in more than 3 of their games
    • The racism problem in the game is caused almost entirely by a tiny minority of players
      • The top 1.89% of players based on number of slurs used contribute 89.20% of all slurs used
      • When you ignore messages sent by these players then the number of games with zero slurs increases from 63.59% to 87.99% and the number of games with more than 1 slur drops to only 4.68%
      • When you filter out games with slur usage incited by the chronic offenders then the number of games with zero slurs increases further from 87.99% to 91.8% and the number of games with more than 1 slur drops further to only 3.27%
    • The chronic offenders when it comes to slur usage also tend to be chronic offenders when it comes to other rule violations
      • Every player in the top 20 has had a report filed against them
      • 18 of the top 20 players have had a report approved against them for unrelated offenses
      • 16 or the top 20 players have been watchlisted for unrelated offenses
      • 7 of the top 12 players have been banlisted for unrelated offenses
      • 4 of the top 12 players have been permabanned for unrelated offenses

Like being forced to care for your aging parents who can't take care of themselves or if your child is born with a birth defect, but slightly less worse because I voluntarily play this game for fun.
    I have played 83 games with ZZorange the Honest Man

    The first games I played with him were before his most recent permaban->appeal, and there were a few games where his gimmick caused the game to be very frustrating - even lost the game for town once because of it. But after I figured out his gimmick, (which honestly didn't take that long given that it's pretty self explanatory), he just became a virtually confirmed town-slot in my games.

    And after his most recent permaban -> appeal, my town winrate with ZZorange was notably higher than my baseline town winrate. He was an easily confirmable town slot as all I had to do to find out if he was town was ask him if he was town. If he says he yes, then he's town. If he doesn't say yes, then he's not town. When I rolled town gov (which was pretty often because I prefer that role), he was an asset as he would be essentially a confirmed slot. He also had solid play elsewhere with reads, noticing voting patterns, etc.

    So labeling him as an instantaneous deadweight feels a bit unfair.

    • Is picking the same name every game, preferring town, and blacklisting scum an abuse of blacklist/prefer? That's a different topic. (IMO no, but there's been a whole thread about this)
    • Should employing a strategy that trades off a lower winrate with players unfamiliar with ZZorange for a higher winrate with players that are familiar with ZZorange be allowed? That's a different topic. (Which, if I understand correctly, the staff decided it's not fair to new players, hence the ban)
    • What about the back and forth witch-hunting between ZZorange and various other players? That's a different topic.
    • Has ZZorange been reported for more minor offenses which most players would be able to get away with unreported due to his reputation? That's a different topic.

    I'm not touching any of those topics here, I'm just saying that ZZorange was a good town player who made winning as town easier, and from a selfish perspective - my town winrate will certainly miss his absence

    Although I guess that doesn't make that much sense since why would Oberon immediately sub out if his plan was going exactly how he wanted.

    Which would make the scum team PQR + Varcron

    Furthermore the obvious thing is that I wasn't a part of his lynch.
    I am thinking you might be scum.

    Thinking about this from Oberon's POV.

    As scum, he sees a TvT thunderdome. He knows he doesn't need to do much other than let it play out. So he claims sheriff with a very explicit escape route with the way he did it.

    He then pushes for me along with blink.

    If he is successful in getting me lynched, blink will probably town-read him for having the same read that blink himself had.
    But he probably realized that the more likely scenario would be blink getting lynched. There is no reason to not lynch someone in that thunderdome. So by being the "outside vote" he could watch town implode in on itself to pick up a win off of it.
