and second off, it was 3 people, 1 gets lynched, then its 1 night left before the game comes to a conclusion of 1v1.

if i was witch or vigi or veteran in that night i would simply won. but since i was not, he won. so its based a bit on luck. if you ask me.

might just be butthurt that im last town alive vs SK, 2 maf, 1 judge, 1 jester. and literally i could simply left game right there since i cant win 1v1 annyway. since i now know escort cant win anything 1v1. but if i was vigi or jailor or veteran or witch i would actually have a chance to win. but since i was not i had 0% chance of winning ever since my other town teammates died.

idk if its hard to understand or not.
No one is understanding WHAT point you're trying to make besides the plainly obvious you -might- have -HAD- a chance to win in a game of -LUCK-. We can't tell if you are trolling, possibly challenged in the mental region, or simply having a conversation which was poorly constructed with an incorrect method of claiming what the ever loving grace of all that is sane and rational you're trying to claim.

This is mafia discussion. Not "I could have totally won in this match I was in if I wasn't the role that I was assigned." Because news flash, that's practically every scenario you end up losing.

    ►►Re: Escort vs Mafia ( 1v1 ) should be town win.◄◄

I don't understand the argument here. Is there even an argument?

Town doesn't auto-win after 3 days of no killing. Town will only win if three days go without killing and somehow no one is put up to be lynched on that 3rd day when it forces it, and they have the -majority-. There is no other way for this "auto-win". The game ends, and it goes off the tie-breaker win conditions.

Perhaps if you properly constructed your sentences with correct grammar and punctuation usage, we'd might better understand your point. So far no one understands it, since town -never- wins in any situation that the numbers are tied, or if no killing occurs in the game and they lack majority. The moment town loses the majority, they will never win a tie or a forced game ending, nor should specific roles ever force a different ending in a 1v1. A 1v1 is a 1v1, a tie. Game uses tie-breaker conditions to establish victory based on which FACTION your role belongs to. It doesn't matter if you are vigi, jailor, or veteran. Soon as a 1v1 hits, tie-breaker conditions occurs.

    @Creed
The exact reason I suggested this is because I've been apart of town several times to see this happen, and us get a very "lucky" win. Perhaps my suggestion isn't the best way to go about this, but I'm seeing a lot more people rage quit the moment they get put on trial. Maybe I just have bad luck? I just believe this is something that needs to be looked at. Primary reason why I suggested it be a feature that can be turned on, or off, by the Host's discretion.

Should we implement a mechanic that turns 2 of the non-town to town?
That's a little different than you working all the way to the end of the game to get your win, only to have it dragged out from you because someone left the game a minute too soon.

Alright, I've seen this a few times, to the point I feel there should be an option to enable this to occur. I'll paint a small scenario:

Two town members, one serial killer, one godfather. Town members are a jailor and investigator. Godfather convinces the town to support him in winning, and puts up the serial killer for lynching; everyone knows who is who. Serial killer is upset with the turn of events because he will end up losing, and decides to rage quit out of the game because he'll be executed. The two town members vote innocent, and the jailor then locks up the Godfather. He's out of executions, however he was able to roleblock him and the town then lynched the Godfather the following day.

What happened here? The Godfather was, for all intents and purposes, going to win the game. He managed to survive long enough to force it to a stand-off where only votes would secure his victory. Town had no real chance in any possible situation for them to win. It would all boil down to a 1-1-1 if Godfather decided not to kill the jailor, and SK didn't kill roleblockers. So obviously, it boils down to either letting SK win by default, or lynching the SK. Town elected to lynch the SK and provide the Godfather with his win. However... well, you see where the story suddenly changes. An unforeseen circumstance occurred, and provided a loop-hole for town to win, when they had no real possible chance at all. It was poor sportsmanship that permitted them a win, and nothing else.

My proposal? Allow a setting to be turned on, or off, which forces a trial to end with the defendant being lynched if he "gives up on life" aka quitting while on trial. It's pretty much an instant admittance of guilt. They should be lynched for it. While I know a lot of people might argue this is a benefit that public matches may rely upon, it's a dirty mechanic that's awarded because of players with poor attitudes and no patience.

    Thoughts? Opinions?

    ►►Re: Mafia/Triad Extorter or Briber◄◄

You're taking my argument out of context. Mafia is meant to win the game through manipulation and correctly picking out who to eliminate. They do not need to have a 100% confirmed ability to control another player against their actions. The reason a neutral role can do so, is because they are alone in the darkness. They do not know who, is who. What is what. So on and so forth. Mafia will already have a general idea of who they need to take down by day two, the latest day three. This can also force a Serial Killer/MM/Arsonist/Cultist to work against their own goals. Giving Mafia an ability to 100% control a player forces an unnecessary advantage to them. Even if you limit it to few uses, and have it where you're exposed and revealed, it still favors heavily for mafia in the fact that they can simply counter-claim, or with a blackmailer duo, shut down that person entirely. Mafia already has a roleblocker, and a jailor, and several misdirection roles. Being able to force a killing role to work with them and in the end cause them to lose, is beyond unfair. Not to mention, even if the controller dies, mafia now knows who they are.

Letting them have 100% confirmed manipulation is unfair to the rest of the game. They're a team, that has a higher level of communication than the rest of the town. There is a 0% need for them to have their own form of a Witch.

I personally feel as if the sotd needs to be play tested a few times by in-house players before it gets approved. Some of them sound fun, sure... but there's no real "scum hunting" in a a setup where the only two non-evil roles are amnesiac and survivor, with a triad and mafia team of 4 members, 2 mms, and a SK...

    ►►Re: Customizable win conditions◄◄

I personally do not agree with it. Neutral roles already have a set grounds to win because it fits their roles total over-all goal. You're a killing role? Kill off all your enemies. You're an insane guy who wants to die? Get lynched. You're a survivor? Live to the end. Town, you can't alter that at all since it's a group faction that's trying to purge their town of all evil-doers, in the eyes of the "common good", where as mafia/triad are trying to take over the town, and will stomp out all who get in their way. The only roles that could be changed, would be the neutrals. Which would do far more damage than it would do good. Changing the win conditions of a role, would mean you would have to possibly alter the entire way the role's mechanics work, so their new win-condition goal can be met. Which causes more work, more balancing to do, more bug fixes, more tweaks, and not to mention an over-haul to the current UI since there's limited space to work with on role options and situations.

If a player is a serious offender, chances are they'll get reported fairly quickly if they are not kicked from people who can recognize their behavioral patterns. Chances are if a new player who's intentionally going out of their way to ruin games from right at the start will get popular in pub matches since, at least a few, become regulars for day-to-day matches. The alert goes away pretty quick if the player is a good fella. I believe at 1k points it goes away. 1k is pretty easy to get with all the achievement bonus points and all that.

I did not say that mafia sides with witch -- I said witch sides with mafia. Often out of pure fear. If you're facing down 3 mafia, 4 town, and yourself, you're not going to try and help town or try to kill of mafia. Sure, later down you might try for the solo win. However, more often than not, conditions do not meet manipulation for witch to solo win. Regardless, it does not dispute the hard proof that shows mafia does not deserve a controlling role.

That's redundant. In full ultimate conditions, witch will always side with triad/mafia. Being able to have a town member behave to the full will of mafia + communication is too powerful. Force a jailor to kill. Force a sheriff to visit a veteran. Grab doctor to heal other mafia. Force vigi to kill off town. Mafia shouldn't be allowed to 100% control town without verbal manipulation and logical misdirection with false claims and lying.

If I get killed N1, it's nice to know what while I stick around to watch and do some WIFOM and drive myself crazy on figuring out who was the random vigilante that shot me N2 so I can scream at him is... and get a few points for staying for it, that's cool yo. And, you can't just join a match and leave once you're dead and get points. Gotta stay to the end, so the theory of "mass game throwing" will still be very hard to do, especially since most pubs do sotd now, where there's usually 3 factions in play.

My only complaint is the universal body figures they all share. Mafia is a gritty, ugly, unfair game with a lot of nastiness in there. I could see, for example, the Arsonist being an over-weight trailer-park junkie who's burning down the town because he's tricked out on way too many drugs.

I have to disagree. I have walked off the stage several times because no one has counter-claimed. The biggest thing about Mafia is communication. At least in my games, I'm talking my ass off. Making logical and rational stand-points while supporting active town-supporting (or those who appear to be) individuals while forcing silent and negative-talking members to go under the spot light. Just because some pubs are bad, does not mean we should instantly think the intent of Mafia is thrown out of the window in a public match.

That's a lop-sided point of view. Just because we're in this part of the forum, does not mean we're the only "experienced" players that participate in Mafia. Speaking in such an absolute and rigid manner hinders the ability for constructive development. We're in here because we've shown we're active, contributing, and intelligent individuals toward the community of Mafia in SC2, as well as being shown we're responsible to take in many factors at once about the game both in public matches and in-house matches.

Regardless, I find Dark's solution to the matter fitting the needs of the public. I really see no more reason to press this matter. It's been discussed, it's been resolved, now it needs some time to be thrown around in matches and see how it handles.

Nah. The real stalemate is when it's 2 doctors versus GF and blackmailer.

    That shit is fucking annoying.

Anyways... yeah. If you enable Arsonist to kill the targets of his victims, then you should disable immunity pierce. Otherwise, you just enabled the Arsonist to kill within the range of 2-5 people (given a very rough estimate with a few years of mental history on how cluster-fuckery it can be with people targeting the same person... example: Veteran taking down ten people N1...) on night 2 alone. No one killing role should be permitted in any setup to have an extraordinary performance early game without draw-backs. This is up to the host, and players involved, to ensure such setups are properly balanced, when using a custom save slot.

I have to disagree with the concept of removing this. In my past experience, all AFK players were always mod-killed when detected, especially in situations where they are tying up voting count. AFKing means you are not playing the game, which completely defeats the purpose of playing a game in the first place. Secondly, there is no "strategy" in faking being AFK. There is no accurate means to relate what AFKing does to the game, because it is an independent action which has no relation with any other aspect of the game which players can do to contribute. Right now everyone is going in circles complaining it ruins their mechanics of a role, but just ask your self a serious question...

In a game where all the players have some wins and loses under their belts, and a proper understanding of how Mafia functions, and how the roles blend and mesh... and a keen insight of how WIFOM behaves: do you honestly think people will buy that you're AFKing? By the point of the game where the plan of "fake AFK" might yield something for you, people are already talking. Leads are being shared. Roles are getting figured out. If you honestly rely on AFKing over lying and manipulating, then you need to alternate how you function in Mafia. That's not how the game is designed to play, and I do not care if people say we shouldn't be arguing on how the game is meant to be played.

AFK hurts the game. It takes away the #1 aspect of the game: lying, manipulation, and controlling others through actions and words. This is one of the best improvements to the game, because now it's forcing everyone to show that you are PLAYING the game, not just trying to ride out a luck-based gimmick.

While I can't really post any replays, and for all I know the database might not have my points still, I do know there's a few old players that might be around that can vouch for me that I had over 15k points. I'm also trying to figure out why my Patron key won't work... sent a PM to DR about it.

Creed, my main man. I have to tell you somethin'.... somethin' very deep, and important.

It is. We just didn't let you know about it.

*To keep relevant with thread as to avoid spam*

It's going to be raising a link for dead players to interact with the world of the living, I'd assume. Most likely in being able to control the channeler's day actions and possibly chat (doubt it, sounds like a bitch to code) and use the channeler as a medium to help achieve their win conditions, if they can. In turn, the channeler probably will end up having a very sporadic win condition, most likely resulting in something along the lines of staying alive to the very end and something else that's real crazy.

    Just my guess.

It'll be sided with the faction we all least expected it to be. Now that I said that, you're going to obviously switch your conclussion to the least expected one... HOWEVER, that means it'll be your ORIGINALLY expected faction, because now that's the least expected one... BUT, then it'll be flipping back again to the other one! So what happens?

We just wait and see, or other wise we're just goin' to be playin' duck, duck, goose with a cluster of pigglets.

    ►►Question about Mafia up-keep:◄◄

Before someone goes off and tries to explain Dr's situation, I know. He has a life, college, a lot of work on his plate, and Mafia isn't a major priority (it's understandable, it's a simple map inside of a game) and all that jazz. So, with that out of the way....

Is there an expected date for Mafia to be updated again? It's fun and all, of course, but it's been a few months since I've seen any mention of DR and him finding enough free time to deal with this headache of a map's coding. (Cheers to you being able to handle it, DR. I've heard how damn bad it is.)

I blacklist the roles I personally do not enjoy. Makes my game more enjoyable. So I agree with the notion of raising it with more roles that come in. It's only fair to give players a means to customize their playing experience.

It's a feature that can end up proving to be useful, if only in situational stances and events. It has cons, and pros; which in my eyes, creates the cause, the effects, and the balanced scheme mafia always strives for in development.

Nor does he die if he watches Veteran. Which is why I said MM shouldn't be allowed to kill him. He probably hides in that pesky tree that isn't really there because he cloaks it.

... That'd be funny to see in the map, random trees that have a cloaked outline...

A simple suggestion, that might seem too powerful, however I think it should be allowed for the Lookout to watch their own house, and see who tries to visit him/her at night. If a Lookout/Detective were to view 'em, I guess it would say they did nothing that night, or that they visited their own self. This would also prevent the Mass Murderer from possibly killing him/her if they were to visit their house, since the Lookout would obviously be outside of their own house for the night. (Still think SK/GF should be allowed to kill 'em, however.)

Yes, no, maybe so? Only seems rather reasonable and fair, from my point of view.

It's all in the player's hands to dictacte if they win or lose, with of course the random factor and the chance they're found -- which can be played in many scenarios that also sees town losing, as well -- so in the end, to try and argue "so and so role has such a low chance of victory against this and that" is pure speculation and opinion, since no one can honestly say how each and every game will play out since it's controlled and played out by humans, which in of its self creates an unpredictable scenario 100% of the time, even if you played the same setup 100 times in a row. So to try and use that as your grounds for argumentation, is irrelevant and automatically shows signs of a poor decision to hold grounds to argue when you're trying to add an ability to a town role that is not meant to yield deciesvie and problem-solving messages in the scheme of settings and occassions.

TL;DR: Stick with your argument about the ability, not the game's schemes and how they're played out. So far, you've poorly presented your statement and haven't given any solid reasons why this should be added in. Citizen should not be able to rule out a Jester in any scheme what-so-ever, nor should it be a setting that is souly dependant on GF being immune to RB and Escort being notified of it. Adding a setting that is -dependant- on other roles having a specific setting -enabled- is a poorly constructed idea to implement into the game. If you wish to suggest for settings to be enabled into the game, it has to circle around their CORE function and purpose.

This setting, does not. It doesn't matter how well it adds protection to GF at night in the case of an Escort finding out a RB-immune role -- the escort's goal and objective is to either proactively discover who a killing role is via WIFOM and deduction skills, or rely on the -core roles of the town- to discover the -protective/support- role's goal in order to secure town's victory.

So, in the end: this addition is purely pointless and doesn't add anything to the Citizen. It basically proclaims "I'M A TOWN ROLE THAT'S USED AS A SCAPEGAOT FOR GODFATHER!" when a Citizen is meant to be a scapegaot for TOWN ROLES. Get it now?

Incorrect. All factions stand out at an equal chance of victory based on the individual's ability to WIFOM and manipulate. Right now you're trying to turn a role that's meant to be -passive- into a role that affects the very faction he's apart of. Do you see any benefit to making citizen have a useless feature, other than to add balance to a situation you deem as unfair to the Godfather? Generally speaking, hardly -anyone- uses Citizens. If this was added in, even -less- people would want to use Citizens to begin with. Quit making a role that's already frowned upon by public players into an even less attractive role for them. And for those that play the game on a regular basis -- as you've seen presented in this thread -- it's a pointless feature to add. The citizen is a passive role that's meant to lie in the ability to -take one for the team, and be a voter-. Not tip the game around based on WIFOM, and make town want to lynch them even more.

See the logic right now? Your suggestion doesn't have it.

Because that's the meta of the game. Balance between killing roles, of all factions, which composes the makeup of how games play out.

    Mafia can't be culted anyways.

Before they were able to, and it's been voted upon by the community so that they couldn't cult mafia.

And now we have the current setup that they cannot.

    This idea wouldn't be implemented.

I am disturbed by the community of Mafia.
