Just read that article and had a good chuckle.

It flatly says We often hear theists say, ďIf you donít believe in God, you must believe God does not exist!Ē but this is simply wrong. Lacking a belief in a god does not entail believing that no gods exist. as an argument for atheism being a lack of belief in god as opposed to a disbelief in god. This argument was made right under a giant picture of the dictionary definition of atheism which states "Disbelief or lack of belief god exists."

Somebody should tell the guy that wrote it that he should identify as agnostic.
  2. ►►Re: Ye atheists by name, lend an ear, lend an ear◄◄

We can put whatever 'label' we want onto it. Maybe lets call it a 'disbelief structure' instead of a 'belief structure' if it makes everyone happy? I still feel like were splitting hairs on semantics.

This is all a bit of a tangent to my original point as well that the social behaviors we see in non-religious groups (to include but in no way limited to groups of atheists) resemble those we see in religion; and that without religions there would just be other social constructs that would fill those shoes.

Atheist is basically a label for someone who doesn't believe in a god/gods. Lack of belief isn't the same as belief at all. There is no structure to atheism. No set of beliefs. There is no atheist doctrine lol. "I don't believe in any god" is not a belief pertaining to the "atheist doctrine" lmao

Please point out the atheist "belief structure" you're alluding to here. It simply does not exist.

Yes, there are those that form groups that are anti religious and function as a religion. Those people can be atheists, but any doctrine/structure that they have is unique to that organization, and I feel like you're conflating that with atheism which is wrong. Because atheism is the lack of belief in any gods and therefore has no belief structure. Wheras these groups DO form an actual belief structure in something, be it morality, humanism, the deconstruction of religion, etc... But that belief system has nothing to do with atheism lol. Atheism has no views on morality or anything else for that matter...
I feel like we are splitting hairs on semantics here. The belief that there is no god is still a belief. Saying atheism has no beliefs is simply not true, that would be agnostic, and arguing about categorization is exhausting.

My point is not that the entirety of atheism has a defined level of doctrine, its a scale. Some simply shrug and say they dont believe there is a god while others spend tons of time attempting to convert others to this belief and attacking the opposing argument. But the belief that there is no god is a belief.

You could put the same scale on politics or many other social structures. My entire point is that there are parallels you can draw between religion and other social structures. Atheism is not an exception simply because they the core belief is that there is no god. Here is some examples: https://www.atheists.org/ https://www.atheistalliance.org/ https://ffrf.org/
Im sure someone with the time and motivation could visit the largest atheist organizations websites and find some common shared doctrine between them all. But we would probably fall back into semantics with you saying they are chapters, then I would point out The Vatican could equally just be called a 'chapter' of Catholicism and their founding doctrine is surly not shared by every catholic in the world.

If you disagree with my point we may need to just agree to disagree. I think our points are not mutually exclusive but rather just a matter of playing with words and categories.

One can be a Satanist and atheist and adhere to that Satanist doctrine, sure, but that's Satanist doctrine not atheist doctrine. Being an atheist doesn't automatically make one a Satanist. It's not like Christianity where in order to be defined a Christian you do have a minimum set of doctrine or beliefs that you must adhere to. A belief in Christ, for example. And then you have your many different Christian religions that have their differences, but still have that core Christian doctrine. Atheism at it's core is a disbelief in a god/gods. There's no core set of beliefs that you have to adhere to to be atheist.
I am not saying being an atheist makes someone a satanist. I am just pointing out there are chapters of athiests that operate under the banner of satanism to dismantle religious influence. I feel like arguing what qualifys as a 'core doctrine' is getting into semantics though. In your own statement there you said "Atheism at it's core is a disbelief in a god/gods."

Honestly you could draw many significant parallels between atheism and religions. Its a belief structure with some more zealous and involved than others and with many groups that advocate to push their ideology. Some even form a sort of anti-religion religion which functions... as a religion.

Depends on how you want to qualify atheism. I have mentioned it a few times before but study many of the 'satanic' religions and you will come to find they are varying degrees of extremes nihilists and atheists. Their main goals are more focused on the deconstruction of religions and their influence on aspects of society than the existence of any real religion of their own.

I did not mean that at all. I was thinking about the obsessive grouping into ingroups and outgroups, the recruiting people to their group and spreading ideals, the power structures that then use them and come up with ways to justify that giving them money somehow translates to morality, Etc..

My point is that if religions did not exist the same social patterns exist in other forms. Sure we can say they justify thought process' that are more irrational but I think the last few years as polarization of information dissemination has increased so has the irrational beliefs justified by groups. Maybe it won't be long until religious zealots are hardly a subject of real worry as other groups become more radical.

Wouldn't people just find something else to create a power structure around instead of religion? You could argue that social power structures like LGBTQ+, nations or political party's function in similar ways to religions in multiple respects.

I go on benders where I end up hitting it 1-2 times a day and then periods of time where I go 1-2 times a month. I have actually been wanting to hire a personal trainer so I could actually learn what the hell I am doing.

I do lift and have a rough understanding of form for the popular movements but a while back I went to a VA program and got to go to the gym with some guys that actually knew their shit. I started to understand things like why some of the biggest guys in the gym are often using tiny weights while flexing a specific muscle and I grew to realize how little I understand. Past planning days for muscle groups I honestly end up grabbing different exercises that target that muscle group from this book:
    https://www.amazon.com/Mens-Health-B...3546716&sr=8-4

Its kinda handy in that the exersizes are grouped by body area (Legs, Back, Chest, Arms etc..) so you can decide thats what your gona do that day and grab random exercises while also learning what the proper form is and exactly what it is working out. That upped my work out IQ a little bit but I really know next to nothing. I go to Planet Fitness which should tell you something if you know much about American Gyms.

Sure, although I think anyone with a few brain cells can make an argument for anything they want given they are referencing an 800k word book. With that statement he was not referencing scripture, just making an over statement on what God does which I saw as just literally speaking for God.

I see those sorts of statements all the time. People say "God does X" or "God feels X way about this" and I always just shake my head and think to myself its one hell of a position to take to speak on behalf of an omnipotent creator. The fact its done so absolutely commonly and with so little consideration just speaks to an aspect I take issue with in preachers.

I know there are a few people here who basically think Christianism (like other religions) is a load of bullshit that should not exist. To those people, I'd like to ask what they think of the link above. Doesn't this actually help people live better in your opinion, even though you believe they are mistaken in their faith? I think the author of this page really tries to help people and probably very much did, no matter whether his religion is right or not.

Bonus points if you actually know what the title refers to lol
I do not really qualify as someone who "thinks Christianism (like other religions) is a load of bullshit that should not exist." but my most significant issue with the way faith is pushed is that its often used to tie people to the 'power structure' behind a religion rather than to the religion itself.
I liked that article in that it addressed the subject of doubt although it also did some things I dislike such as 'speaking for god' in statements like "God never turns an honest doubter away." I am not gona say that is wrong but I am going to say that the author very likely has no permission from God to speak on their behalf.

I personally believe doubt is very healthy. It represents freedom of thought and it destroys the control of power structures.

So far expressed opinions reflect that a change in your behavior would equate lower lobby wait times instead of a change in moderators behavior towards 'censorship.'

I can also say I stepped away from playing the mod a year or two back simply because I stopped enjoying the 'culture' I was playing in. There was just too many people spamming offensive things for some sort of shock value. I am curious to see what the rest of the community has to say on the subject.

I do agree, But this is totally erroneous to your point and my counter that words do not matter or that they only hurt people if they choose to allow them to do so. Words very much can and do hurt and while I absolutely agree with you on your previous point of (insinuated) thick skin being a good thing I also feel like your point I was responding to here that words can't hurt is either contrived or dumb. This is underscored by your own point in the next statement:

So as I was pushing earlier lines must be established and those lines must be interpreted by the feelings of the receiver.
And trust me, I am one hell of an advocate for how people present themselves as victims to weaponize social structures against people they have problems with. I take a lot of shit for that. But I do feel my logic is sound and your words reflect agreement with my position in spite of the obvious exploit I am confident we both also share in our thoughts.

This game has a -mute feature that I use myself when someone is spamming... but I never use for stuff like racism because who cares? Seriously. They are just words. My parents told me not to let words hurt me when I was a toddler. More people should take that approach these days instead of reporting everything someone says that hurts their feelings.

Also that last line about protecting the community I disagree with. I think censorship hurts the community, not protects it.
While I do agree with you that a heavy amount of the 'kid gloves' mentality in our society is bad social structures depend on establishing norms and there is little more in this life that matters more than words simply because they convey ideas, beliefs, and loyalty's. You can say 'sticks and stones' but if your mother and father said they hated you and you only live because your abortion failed as a child it probably would have hurt you.

I bet if I spoke words of desire to rape, torture, and murder your family while I lived next door you would probably take issue and demand some level of protection because those words were threatening to you and the lives of those you cared about. If you accept such spoken words would be threatening to you how can you dissociate such direct threats and the reaction they generate (followed by the protection they are given by a community) from the indirect implications that are given with racism to individuals who's families have experienced literal genocide? Sure, The threat provided would be more substantial but the personal experience that it would be executed would be much less justified.

Would you feel protected by being able to 'mute' someone you felt threatened you and your loved ones? Would you be ok with someone say.. Reveling your personal address right now as you speak and declaring a racist lived at that location to a large group of people? Those are just words after all.

Also, we are talking about your personal beliefs here. If you hear the greater community takes issue with such behavior would you be willing to change your behavior to conform to social norms instead of blaming the enforcing power structure of a community?

If you want a sterilized gaming experience that is disconnected from real life, then maybe don't play with other people? Actually Speech about Profanity, Racism, Sexism, Pedophilia, Genocide, and Rape are not illegal.

And if we are going to establish legality for the guide line for whats ok in social interactions it would be totally fine for me to say.. befriend you then bang your wife. Or maybe gain your trust financially then get you to give you all your money. These are the founding ethics a good community should be built on in your opinion?

    Just curious

Do you think there is no problem in expressing profanity? How about Racism? How about Sexism? How about Pedophilia? How about genocide? How about Rape? How about sharing how to kill people? How about saying things to instigate panic to hurt large groups of people? How about assonating a president? How about building bombs? How about how to wage biological warfare? How about creating nuclear weapons?

Where should the line of free speech be drawn? Or should I be free as an explosive expert from the Marines to share my knowledge in bomb building to kill people I don't like with impunity? How about someone with the knowledge of how to build a nuke or wage biological warfare? The line has to be drawn somewhere imo and yes I am taking this to an extreme but its because the question you are asking is one of a spectrum while you are phrasing it as 'If'

And where should that line be drawn in a video game where people simply come together to have an enjoyable social experience. Sure we all want to win but there is a reason pretty much every large multiplayer platform bans acts like real life threats. There are moral and ethical lines that can be violated and you getting a warning here is an example of that.

At the same time I have made some effort to ask the questions behind what you claim to want to the community, as well as some very pertinent ones to challenge your personal belief structure.

For my personal opinion its a social game. Speech is just about all there is. I think its less about banning people for saying things you do not agree with and more about creating an inclusive environment community. There are many controversial views in this world and there are places where its appropriate to discuss them. Maybe you should chill on your anti-Semitism or political nonsense in a video game and instead embrace enjoying the game with other people.

If you are not playing to bond with other people and enjoy a mutually pleasurable experience you may have picked the wrong game.

I think its a valid question.

Although 'Do they play' may not be the actual question but rather what should be moderated.

    Cost/Benifit

Having racist humor drives away new players and longevity of the game while eliminating regulars for the same actions hurts games.

Is the goal of moderation to ensure game quantity or quality? What level of morality is acceptable for a trade off? How much of the player base is totally cool with racism?

I dont think these questions were really asked but they would be good topics of discussion for the community if they really want this issue addressed so moderation could follow the community's desire.

A lot of what I focus on is the intention behind the action. For example, I take issue with gamethrowers because they get their enjoyment from ruining another persons experience. Thats like.. a low key cowardly form of sadism. When I think about people spamming racist and child rape comments I see it as the same. Its someone getting pleasure/enjoyment from offending and hurting the fun of another person. Sure rambling about butt raping children does not damage the game state and keeps the game playable and I can see your argument there but its still a conscious attempt to destroy the experience of another human being.

On one side of the coin I am not with the 'Any rape joke is not funny' crowd that believes some subject is so taboo we can't have a laugh about it. Yes, This even includes child rape (although I do not think I have ever seen someone successfully make the subject funny.) I am more of a 'Well what was the rape joke' kinda guy. My point is when the intention of the statement is not just cracking a shitty joke in an attempt to make others laugh at a taboo subject but instead to violate social norms and offend people its a fucked off practice I do not respect.

On the most basic level sarcasm and shock humor are the lowest forms of humor and generally only gratifying to the speaker and not the audience. If you study theories of humor or professional comedians there is a reason these are not primary techniques for individuals in their field. From the little bit I have started reading into charisma and social status it also appears to be widely viewed as something to avoid although I am not sure if the positions I have been reading have the same thought process as I do.

At the end of the day all I can say is that playing a game is about enjoying an experience with other human beings, and bonds are formed when people have a mutually enjoyable experience. Intentionally offending people is just not cool in my book and its even less so when its done without the poor justification of some 'in game advantage' gained and the purpose is instead to drive pleasure from ruining another persons experience.

All that to say- No, I don't think I am over reacting and the 'norm' of saying anything is ok in our community should be killed with fire. If you want to crack a racist, sexist, or child rape joke it should be with the intention of sharing mutual entertainment with other people and not enjoying fucking up someones day. Just to underscore my point- Heres a rape joke:

    Spoiler : Rape joke :
So the other day I got arrested. Was having a great time with my date when a cop walked into the alley and threw me off her and into hand cuffs. They take me down to the station and tell me I am under arrest for rape. I obviously argue the interaction was totally consensual to which the cop responds "She was yelling No, Stop, Dont"
At this point I realized it was a total misunderstanding and I let him know she actually meant "No, Dont stop" but she was just confused because of the roofies.

Is that joke in poor taste? Absolutely. And it should probably be used in specific crowds. But the objective of telling it is to get the audience to laugh. Not to just shit on social norms or push a subject that could be very deeply traumatic to people. I am fortunate (if that could be said) to have never experienced rape but I have dated girls and have friends who have had such experiences and I understand how deeply it has fucked up their lives. People like to be edgy and screw with taboo subjects but I think the intention they have going into the situation is very important and when its bad (as we see here) we should condemn the behavior socially.

There is absolutely no need to hurt another person for you to have a good time. And anyone who chooses to do so deserves moderation measures that protect the community from their inconsiderate behavior. I simply go a step further and advocate for social ostracization while pushing exactly why its a shitty thing to do in hopes to generate social pressure as well as influence the person to change their decisions.

@theoneceko can confirm, she has a lot of experience with being muted in SC2.
Its a violation of their code of conduct and terms of service. Sense Activision took the reigns of Blizzard the only thing they have cared to address is things that put liability on them as a company. Unless someone is making real life threats against another player they just don't take any action and I believe moderation is mostly automated.

Appropriate action would be to tie bans for chronic abusers to their IP or HD. I think at this point though they barely even bother to moderate their official ladder outside of the GM leagues. Kind of understandable given the game is not very profitable anymore and their company focus has shifted to micro-transactions and mobile games.

As ZZOrange pointed out the mods hands are somewhat tied. They do what they can to protect the community from those screwed up people but Blizzard just does not care.

I am happy our community has grown. Our staff is no longer a boys club on power trips and our members are generally more accepting and tolerant. Honestly if we had embraced a better culture long ago I bet the community would be much larger than it is now.

If I was going to compete for the title of 'top troll' I would probably try to figure out a way to do it in a positive way. Mutual pranks or clever tricks instead of picking a fight with a community of trolls for who can be the least enjoyable human being.

This is something I have thought about with all the chronic trolls over the years. My personal theory is that they crave attention and notoriety creating an anti-culture because although they lack the intrapersonal or communication skills to become someone of note they deeply crave that attention. You see the same thing in child psychology where children act out to get attention because on a basic level 'negative attention' is better than 'no attention.'

Spamming about child rape, niggers and faggots for shock value is also the lowest form of intellect. Although some trolls over the years were pretty intelligent people I generally associate this with someone who lacks the brain power to otherwise generate a genuine reaction from someone and instead relies on overtly violating social norms to get a reaction.

At the end of the day I just see it as a cry for attention from a person who is too lazy or stupid to foster genuine human relationships. I bet in general people like Cutie recognize how insignificant their lives are and are just desperate to have some level of impact somewhere; even if thats as perthitic as trolling a mod on a video game. Its as much impact as their lives will ever have and we should pity them.

    @CuteTheCutie
I hope you read this and understand how little respect I have for you as a human being. You can choose to change but I doubt you ever will. That would require you to be strong enough to be vulnerable and genuine with other people and I think you are just too much of a coward to get past that.

I am not going to debate if some of the things you say are disgusting or not but I will say I am glad you are banned. As a person you get to decide how you play a game and regardless of if its breaking rules or not you choose to go out of your way to be offensive so you can giggle to yourself about some pathetic shock humor.

That said, as a human being I would like to personally tell you to go fuck yourself you weird sick bigot. I hope you get some help, maybe some medication, and then maybe choke on that medication. If you can not understand why moderators would protect the community from you or how people are worse off for having come into contact with you in their lives you are a fucking retard.

    ►►Inflation◄◄

So something has been going on in America for a while. The price of literally everything is through the roof. Some of this is tied to a shortage in supply or workforce but everything that has absolutely no shortage at all have climbed in price as well which represents substantial inflation. Yet although the prices for most goods have have gone up by very substantial amounts the government has placed projected inflation at 2.4% for this year.

Michael Burry is that hedge fund manager who predicted the housing market collapse and bet an entire hedge fund against it making crazy money. He is doing so again betting on interest rates and inflation and has been banned from most social media for 'spreading panic;' basically saying when he blew the whistle last time nobody listened and he is doing so again and is being ignored.

I have been talking about my thoughts on interest rate hikes and inflation for months now but recently found an article showing Michael Burry has the same thoughts which makes me feel I am correct. Trump basically froze interest rates to artificially inflate the economy and Biden refused to hike them his first year with COVID because it would hurt the economy quite a bit. But my understanding is that its been 5-6 years that interest rate hikes were suppose to happen and have not.

I have a lot more thoughts on the subject but I wanted to see what others thought about it. A lot of big money is making moves right now anticipating some shit to go down next year. Heres that video on Michael Burry for those interested:

I am not sure about doing it for site-wide stuff but I do have a setup on the back-burner where I want to establish a point system to quantify individual play with sets of goals and achievements. One example is I would ask players to submit reads each night (even when they are dead) and reward points based on individual accuracy.

Im not going to seriously work on that until I am done with the guide thing though but it may be worth thinking along these lines.

If the true value of the dollar is based on what that dollar can buy you 2020 and 2021 has seen a massive amount of inflation regardless of what it is said to be worth and is in line with natural markets (if that makes sense)

Expect 2022 to have fucking MASSIVE implications on the stock market. This is not financial advice but if I had money in stocks or a 401k I would sell the fuck out of it and hold that shit as cash or throw it into bonds/crypto.
So I am not an economist but I function off what I can see in society. The more I look at this the more I question the financial state of the dollar and how it can be said 'inflation' of the dollar is at a 4% rate this year yet the price of what the dollar can purchase has jumped so substantially across all fields and currency production has spiked heavily. Do I need to get a tin foil hat or is there about to be a massive global wealth shift?

I don't see much of a difference. If I have a piece of paper with 100$ written on it it only holds value because the other people I want to exchange goods and services with agree that it does. With normal currency that agreement was built upon the logic that it could be redeemed for things of value (such as gold, later silver and oil.)

Then they got rid of that and it was just 'backed' by such items.

Now I don't feel like its backed by anything. The USD has a large portion of being backed by oil reserves but when the value of oil goes down you do not see the currency go down in value. Then theres the issue of that the currency is printed in ratio to how well its backed to establish its value but money is created. If you deposit 100$ in a bank you have 100$ but the bank then uses your money to invest or give loans. This means the same 100$ you own is then an asset to the bank and then an asset to an individual or a company so your 100$ just became 300$. Yet there was no tripling of the items backing the currency and the currency value does not drop by 66% even though it just tripled.

When you think about it. The US Dollar is kinda as bullshit as a crypto coin and it only has value because people agree it does. I did point out the potential value of a world economy shifting to crypto in the event of a currency crash but really that does not need to happen at all. The moment you can spend Bitcoin on Amazon or it is widely accepted in markets the Dollar becomes as arbitrary as any other crypto imo.

One thing I like about crypto is that its spitting in the face of established financial cartels. Governments cant track and tax it and investment groups dont have a protected and gamed market like we see with stocks. I only threw like 5k at the stuff because I felt like Safemoon was a safe bet and the risk/return is excellent given a crypto's value is based on its social appeal and its been trending like crazy although inaccessible but its just a different form of legal gambling at the end of the day. Given I bought in at .000004$ per coin if the thing hits 1 cent I make half a million dollars or something and I don't know another market that provides 100% return on investment in a few weeks.

So this is a bit of a weird thing to say but I met someone who helped look into my situation on MU and I feel better understanding that some staff there genuinely think I am a racist.
I was very angry the moment they accused me of being a racist because the majority of the people in my life are minorities and systemic racism is an issue I am passionate about but I do feel some portion of their decision process was done in good faith. I do feel that calling someone a racist is one of the worst things you can say about a human being short of a pedophile or a rapist and that they certainly very intentionally avoided giving me access to an email to appeal and other functions in line with our global community standards but I do feel I should communicate a decent portion of their actions were not in bad faith regardless of how angry I am about them.

This thing just popped into my head

I take issue with industry in-groups existing but what if that is just a reflection of information dissemination? If all of humanity was blind and in a cave those who knew how to feel through other senses to identify the things that made them successful would do well and communicate that to their children. As much as I hate the processes in our society that perpetuate inequality and prehistory profitable situations I kinda wonder if that level of human nature that drives such predatory action is literally a result of perception which is itself a result of the state of being that's outside of any decision making process for an individual.

Maybe I am crazy or maybe systemic evil is just a product of determinism? Or if determinism is not a thing maybe that evil that I blamed on human nature is just some resulting drive of human nature in a different way than I have ever considered.

As far as I can tell it's absolutely useless for anything other than buying drugs and child porn online. It has no practical purpose. Nobody uses it, even the stores that do accept it only do so if it's immediately converted into real currency so it doesn't actually do anything but add a layer on top of normal payment for silicon valley tech bros.

In return the entire thing wastes a fuckton of energy for no purpose and uselessly increases demand on things like GPUs which have actual useful applications.

I'm even saying this as someone who has invested into cryptocurrency just because I think it's a fad that's not gonna die. At least I don't delude myself to cope with the fact that it's never going to actually become useful.

The saddest thing is that allowing people to buy drugs online is probably the only good thing bitcoin has done for society because it makes it so you don't have to risk getting shot in a parking lot or having your heroin spiked with lethal doses of fentanyl.
I have been a long term hater of crypto but just bought into something called Safemoon. The question you ask is one I have been chewing on for the last month or four.

One thing I see crypto as is like Gold. You can not eat it or do anything useful with it but it holds and grows in value based on some fucked off supply/demand driven by social appeal. Crypto is not much different in the respect of an investment. If you can quantify the social draw you can invest and make money.

For Bitcoin itself I believe payment integration has been moving forward for a while. Multiple people have told me you can buy stuffs off new-egg and other respected sites and I have herd whispers Amazon is looking at payment integration. I personally feel like the more bitcoin integration is pushed the more all crypto will go up in value simply because the bottle neck is the exchange between currency and crypto. When that is no longer needed things change in a specific way..

Something I have been watching is the potential collapse of USD. I am not sure if I have talked about it here but in 1994 Mexico had its currency go to shit. They pushed their debt too high and their interest rates skyrocketed. To counter it they inflated their currency and bought up their debt which destroyed the Peso. This pattern has happened over and over with so many nations.. Now USA has been holding back interest rates for about 5 years while hiking debt and this year they are starting to inflate the USD do counter that offset. The stage is set for some major shifts if things go south and there is huge potential for shifts in wealth if they do happen.
What this has to do with Crypto is that if the USD collapses the global market will probably shift to crypto based where value based currency's become a thing of the past and market driven values become the new basis.

There is a lot of swing in there and I hope I am wrong but I have spent a decent bit of time and energy preparing for some financial movements if that train goes down that track.

Outside of all that I do feel buying into crypto in general holds value because as soon as it is viable to traverse any nation and its payment is integrated it will become a much stronger investment.

    (Also, buy Safemoon)
