[B]Quick Mafia Championship Update[/B]
For those who didn't follow the Mafia Championship to the end, Dels from GameFAQs ended up winning the fourth season. He will be receiving a winner's certificate signed by Dmitry Davidoff, the creator of Mafia.
[B]***** Event 2017 - Interested?[/B]
As some of you may recall, last year 220 players from dozens of different communities participated in the first ever cross-community ***** Event. It was a big success and people have been wanting another one, so... It's finally here! :)
If you don't know what "*****" means, it's when two people share the same account (two heads). So the concept is that each participating community can send multiple hydras if they want, each consisting of two players, which tends to make the game more fun in addition to making it easier to be active since two players are playing on the same account.
Sign-ups will be open for next couple of weeks.
If you'd like to play, just find a partner and lemme know either here or in the thread below.

[B]Do you wish to spectate and/or talk with players from other communities?[/B]
We have a big chat on Discord (300+ members) for those that want to spectate and talk about these games. The representatives will be added to this channel too after they die. Or if you just want to chat with people from other communities, we have a general chat too that is unrelated to the Mafia Championship.
[B]1)[/B] CLICK HERE TO JOIN: [url]https://discord.gg/zdeEhcg[/url]
[B]2)[/B] Tag one of the red or blue people in the chat (write [MENTION=15790]Thingyman[/MENTION] or @staff for example), let them know who you are and from what community, and they'll give you the necessary permissions to see the spectator channel. This is necessary to avoid the wrong people (the representatives and their backups) joining the channel.
You don't need to have Discord installed in order to join the channel, as there is a web version.
[B]Do you want to have your own private community spectator chat?[/B]
This is definitely both allowed and encouraged. However, I ask that you please do everything possible to make this chat private and inaccessible to your representative, backup and your representative's opponents. It's important that your thoughts and comments don't influence the game. In other words, please don't post about the game in public threads -- this is very important.

[B]UPDATE ON MAFIA CHAMPIONSHIP[/B]
Originally, the plan was for this season to feature 135 communities. We will now have [B]165 participating communities[/B], which means that this season alone we will have more different communities represented than all other seasons combined. Approximately [B]60 communities are participating for the very first time[/B]. Of the returning communities, about a dozen of them are resending a previous representative, while the rest are all sending fresh faces.
As a result of how big this season has gotten, we'll have more games to look forward to than ever before. We will have 11 qualifying games, 2 wildcard games and 1 finale game = [B]14 games in total[/B].
All kinds of communities are partipating. Besides the sites dedicated specifically to mafia, we have forums dedicated to popular entertainment, sports, poker, board games, online games, video games, role playing, LEGO, personality type testing, stick figure animations, science, atheism, music, mathematics, comics, students, etc. Some of these communities started playing mafia more than a decade ago; Others just started this year.
Despite this being a forum event, we will also have communities that play the game via various chat clients (Discord, Telegram, IRC, custom, etc.) and via webcam (with games often streamed on Twitch.tv). And not least, there are communities centered around mafia game variants that you can buy on Steam (Town of Salem and Throne of Lies).
This season will also have the biggest international scope yet. For the very first time we will have representatives from Romania, Hungary, Chile, Portugal, Ukraine and Czechia as well as our first person representing a Japanese community. We even have our first Native American.
In addition to this, we of course welcome back countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Italy, Indonesia, South Africa and Ireland, meaning that we'll have [B]more than 20 different countries represented in total[/B].

[B]Next update:[/B] I am hoping very much I will have all the info I need from all of the representatives by Wednesday at the latest next week. Assuming I do, I will schedule all the qualifying games on this day and get back to you with your representative's start date.

[b]Update on The Mafia Championship[/b]
Exciting news: We are expanding to [b]150 participating communities[/b], which is more than last season. In fact, we may even go for 165 communities depending on how some invitations go.
On that note, if you know of a community that might be interested in participating and isn't on the list in the linked post, let me know and I'll be happy to give them an invitation: <snipped, not sure if it's okay to link>
Since none of the representatives chosen at this point have indicated that they can only play if their game starts April 24, I have made the decision that [b]the qualifying phase won't begin until May 1st[/b] in order to allow me more time to get everything properly organized and to get all representatives properly prepared. This will have no impact on the overall schedule for this season; the qualifying phase will still be wrapped up by early July, after which we dive into the wildcard games followed by the finale game.
Finally, to communities that haven't elected a representative yet: [b]Remember that your deadline for electing a representative is April 23[/b].

2) If so, can you send me a PM when your rep (+ backup, if you want to name one of those too) is decided? :)

Hi guys
Your representative has been scheduled for the game below.
[B]Game 2 - May 2 (36/12 phases, European deadlines)[/B]
CHDog (Irish Poker Boards)
Christian (Swedish Hattrick.org community)
Cormag (The Millennium Forums)
Dyslexicon (Personality Café)
Jan (Super Mafia All-Stars)
Jeremy Davis (Grand Prix Racing Online)
Joga bonito (Football Forums)
Klopp (PilkarskieForum)
LimitlessEdge (Comic Vine)
Mist (Lupus in Tabula Online)
NotACop (PokerNet)
phantomEclipse (Chocolate Pi)
Pikachamp (BisaBoard)
silver (Dominion Strategy)
wikey (Further Entertainment)
Yatta (Xtratime)
Yayap (SC2 Mafia)
The game is taking place on Mafia Universe. You can find the specific subforum dedicated to the championship here: [url]https://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums/forums/36-The-Mafia-Championship-2016[/url]
[B]I want to talk about and spectate the game - what do I do?[/B]
If you wish to actively spectate and show support for your representative, then there are two ways of doing this.
1) There will be a private spectator thread on the site for each game that you may request access to. Simply register on the site and PM the user "Thingyman", and I will add you. Feel free to spectate games that your representative isn't in as well. These threads are published after the game completes.
2) We have a spectator chat on Skype, with currently more than 140 people in it. It's very active and fun, I highly suggest you join it if you have Skype. Just add me: thingyman. Please let me know which community you hail from when adding me.
None of these two chats/threads will be spoiled!
Finally, we kindly ask that you refrain from commenting too much on the games in public on this forum, as the other representatives will easily be able to find and read through this (as has happened in the past). I can't control what you do here, but out of respect for the integrity of this Championship, it's best if you don't discuss your reads on your representative or the other players or make comments that could potentially indicate your reads. I.e. even something like "oh man, our representative is totally being his usual self right now" is not good. Speaking very generally about what has happened so far in the game (so as to update your fellow community members) without commenting on it is fine though.
I hope this doesn't seem too strict to you guys, but the game can become very uncomfortable (and unfair) if there is discussion about it outside of the game thread. If you want to have your own private spectator chat, that is of course also totally fine and I even encourage it (I'd love to be added if you make one of these) :)
I wish your representative and your community all the best of luck for this season! :)

Hi guys :)
I just wanted to stop by, say hello, and let you all know that [b]the 2015 Mafia Championship Finale Game has officially begun![/b]
Link to game thread: [url]https://www.mafiauniverse.net/threads/269-The-2015-Mafia-Championship-Finale[/url]
70 representatives from 70 different communities have battled it out since April, and now it's time to crown the ultimate winner -- the internet's reigning forum mafia champion.
I hope you'll enjoy the read, and I hope I'll see your community represented again in season 3. OR, even better, I hope I'll see you for any other upcoming fun cross-community events - we're gonna do a Hydra game where players can sign up in pairs, which should be a ton of fun :)
In case you're interested in talking with others about the game (or if you just want to shoot the breeze with other mafia enthusiasts), we are a horde of 110+ people on Skype spectating the game. Add me, if you'd like an invite: thingyman

Hi guys, any update? There hasn't been a new post for quite some time.
I stress again that the representative should feel really, really confident about being able to handle the high activity requirements; i.e. that 500 posts per 24 hours for the first few days would be managable (of course, it's mostly short posts) and that the representative himself/herself also feels like he/she could somewhat hold her own posting-wise in such an environment.

Hi guys
I'm glad to see that there's interest. I will stress again, though you've already done so yourself, that the activity thing is indeed the most important part and will probably end up mattering the most in finding / narrowing down the potential candidates. You need to feel completely confident about being able to hold your own in a high-activity and fast paced game and having to read and post a bunch every single day :)
