►►Re: Request: Doctor should be able to save people with heart attacks◄◄

    @Lag
I was wondering if it was possible for you to do your computer magic thingy and pull up statistics, which roles heart attack the most?

I remember dying from heart attack often even though being present in the game. Just not talking + having a role that I don't want to night action with or something.

I feel like the heart attack's theoretical purpose doesn't correspond with how it is in practice at all.
If we knew that roles like Jailor, Government and Benign died far more than the rest - that'd prove it I think.

    ►►Re: Australian submarines◄◄

AUKUS (/ˈɔːkəs/, AW-kəs) is a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, announced on 15 September 2021. Under the pact, the US and the UK agree to help Australia to develop and deploy nuclear-powered submarines, adding to the Western military presence in the Pacific region.
Cool. Australia getting good submarines feels very fitting for them - them being an island and all that.
AFAIK, the US military is more expensive than the next several ones combined, but It's mostly due to air force and I always felt like the UK had the best submarines. Them 2 together will surely get Australia the best submarines.

On 17 September 2021, France, which is an ally of the three countries, recalled its ambassadors from Australia and the US; French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian called the deal a "stab in the back" because it disrupted France's strategic plans for the Asia-Pacific region and led to Australia's unilateral cancellation of a French–Australian submarine deal worth €56 billion (A$90 billion).
That's a lot money tbh. But nevertheless, I don't see how France can blame Australia if Australia wants the best submarines.

What I found curious is "recalled its ambassadors from Australia and the US" - why not the UK also?

1.2. Majority here, of those who read the debate, having the same interpretation as the mods on MU
    2. A questionable extent of the ban - arguably against their own established rules

    3. A public humilation with out of context quotes combined with denying the ability to defend himself.
    4. An inexcusable aftermath of the ban, with not even allowing for an appeal.

That's about it for me how I view this atm.
Having said that, I'll drop this topic for at least a while if not for forever. I'm feeling a dissonance and I'm quite certain I'm having a lack of objectivity in this now.
    I forgot one..
    5. They technically lied to their community on two occasions:
5.1. They made it sound like Helz had the option for an appeal.
5.2. Their stated reason for the ban does not correlate with their stated reason in their email to Helz.

Their sincerity with the public is shown to be wanting.
Their post-ban treatment of those banned is questionable, though understandable to an extent.
The extent of this particular ban can be viewed as extreme, but it's under their "0 zero tolerance" policy.

Despite all those bad attributes, the ban itself goes in line with the line of thought of virtually all their bans.

For the extent of the ban, I've suggested them to have a list of punishments per crime. They and their community disagreed, so there's nothing more than can be done there.
Wrt their sincerity/openness with the public and their post-ban treatment of those banned - that's their mod teams business.

@Helz for me, this settles every aspect of this topic that I think of atm.
Is there something else that you desire to get out of this?

I don't follow tbh. AFAIK, both are present in both - private and public sectors - and neither is above law.

Regardless though, looking this up - I seem to have missed something. They're apparently waiting The European Medicines Agency to finish their research, probably October, approving that it's safe to vaccinate children from age 5; they're discussing wether or not to mandate children from that age to vaccinate. Discussion about teachers is not even a discussion.
Looking more into it, it seems that the French Government has mandated that children aged 12 to 17 must be vaccinated by 30 September 2021 - so at least we're not the first by any means.

That was my concern, among others.
You make it sound like my individual concerns reflect that of everyone.

I'm fairly certain that the most popular concern against the vaccines around the world is people seeing more and heavier side effects from them as they should from published statistics.

There's a little bit of double standard in that regard on the web, as I see it. On the one hand - seemingly everything has been linked to long term effects of the virus and it needs more testing/research/studies. On the other hand - don't worry about the possible vaccine side effects, as disastrous as some of the cases it might be, because they're rare, no need for more research.

Some people knowing personally more cases of bad side effects than should be statistically likely might make for an anecdotal case, as that's not how statistics work. And it doesn't help that so many rely on "I heard of that one guy who personally knows x cases of y side effect". But I see it as a perfectly human reason for concern.

Btw, SB16, here in my country - teachers are (technically not for a few months still) forced to vaccinate to be allowed to work as teachers. And even without that, the amount of restrictions people have if not vaccinated makes for a bad case for "you've a choice".
That teacher thing is weird tbh. Because children are not a risk group, while on the other hand doctors, who're in contact with risk groups daily, are not mandated to get vaccinated. :/

Ftr, I'm pretty sure this's due to bureaucracy.
At the end of the year, especially where government is concerned, everything has to be set in order so the new upcoming year can be started from a blank slate.

Maybe someone here has experience in bookkeeping or accounting for government thingies, or something like that, and elaborate on that a little? But yeah, AFAIK that's normal - unless I'm misunderstanding something here, which might well be the case.

Despite what philosophers have thought about reasoning for 2000+ years, I do believe that the last 50+ years of experiments showcasing the human inadequacy of being objective on their own makes for a good case to believe in the hypothesis that human reasoning has evolved to only convince others and to judge the given reasonings of others in return.

    Any source?

I remember many years ago Dual-N-Back was heavily advertised as increasing one's intelligence by exercising working memory.
But when I looked into the associated studies myself, I came to the conclusion that the only objective conclusion that it came to was that playing Dual-N-Back makes you only better at Dual-N-Back.
Same story for all brain games. Maybe some have provided some anecdotal evidence that such exercises can increase IQ by a few points, but imho that might just be when someone hasn't "used brain" for a very long time.

Similarly, Jordan Peterson claims to have looked into IQ related studies very extensively and found nothing that could increase it.

It's a very romantic idea, that brain exercises could increase one's IQ. I can see why such ideas can easily spread. But I've never found any evidence for - only the contrary.

Edit: before someone wants to call me out of doing a false equivalency of intelligence=IQ, I want to quote:
Intelligence is the mental ability to respond to new and changing situations in a purposeful way that demonstrates comprehension, learning, abstract thinking, and problem solving capabilities. An IQ is a number that attempts to measure a person's intelligence.
    Though, there's also..
Some scientists argue that intelligence is such a complicated concept that comes in so many different flavors, that it is impossible to condense it all into a single number. One common theory, proposed by psychologist Howard Gardner, is that there are eight different types of intelligence: interpersonal, intrapersonal, kinesthetic, linguistic, logical, musical, naturalistic, and spatial.
Traditional IQ tests do a good job of measuring linguistic and logical intelligence, but they fail to measure intelligence in the other areas.

German government wishes to enforce their hate speech law on a website. That website is proclaiming itself as a social network that champions free speech.
The website, so it's said, has a history/drama surrounding it with regards to spreading neonazi stuff. But I feel like it shouldn't be relevant in this discussion.
Their choice is between either banning hate speech or banning German IPs. They chose the latter.

Where do you stand on banning hate speech for the cost of having less free speech and why?

You yourself mentioned that things were similar for whites living in similar conditions in some European countries so I know you don’t equate it to being about race. And yet you still called it “black culture”, sort of contradicting yourself? “Asian culture glorifying academics” is just as problematic too. Japanese, Indians, Indonesians, and iraqis all have some united cultural drive to do well in academics? Again I get the stereotype you’re addressing but perhaps you just need to use some different wording?
First I thought that ammirus was right on point.
But on a second thought, this is only relevant for:

Which we now know, thanks to the first sentence in #34, that Helz would only be interested from the MU mods and not from aynone else. In retrospect - this makes a lot of my posting here irrelevant too.

So what do we got here in the end? Here's my summary:

    1. A justified ban due to a combination of
1.1. "We aren’t interested in discussing your opinions further. It’s about people being offended by what you’re saying and what their interpretation of your words is, not what your intention behind the words may be." - which is well in line in 99% of their bans.

Or is this on the initial conversation that started it all.
I never talked about "Helz not responding to mods".

The judgement doesn't become more or less fair if the opinion is "correct" or "well-argued".
If people could stop giving support's on blind faith, that'd be great.
First there were 100+ posts on discord+forums agreeing with the MU mods, a witch hunt after Helz and his supporters.
Now there's witch hunt after MU mods.
On both sides most didn't bother looking into anything, just taking the word of whomever they're supporting.

I myself need the case to be put under scrutiny before I support either.
My own interpretation is in #7, however I said I don't understand most of what was even said.
Now as it stands, thanks to #18+#19+#20, it seems that even the people here share the same interpretation as the mods on MU? Which atm is the majority of people looking into it themselves?
Combine that with Helz not replying to them, and it's objective to support the ban?

I can't agree with the aftermath of it all though - that lost the MU mods credibility for me.

I wish Helz to take care of his mental health.
I wish others to not go on blind faith witch-hunts. Though I suppose that's what communities do, judging by both MU and SC2Mafia?

Those racist laws are no longer a thing. Segregation law is a law of the past. How do they affect today?

And to be safe, it was supposed to address #18, #19, #20 - correct?

I still don't see how a law from 60 years ago affects the prison populations today.

Don't you really see how many inferences one has to make to even attempt to follow your thoughts process? Either that or I'm more dumb than I ever realized.

I'm sorry that my best efforts of advising to speak understandably fell on deaf ears.

My point that calling that a crime does not make the individual immoral but rather the system is pretty clear. I can provide specific examples but I feel like its kinda stupid for me to do so. I am making a very valid and clear position here about how saying something is a crime does not mean its derogatory to the individual while also pointing out that my argument was not hateful to a racial group simply because I was arguing that systemic racism created through laws was itself immoral.

If you would like I could go grab some law books and dig some stuff up for you but honestly.. just.. wtf dude? I do not understand why you keep reframing the issue as irrational or that the entirety of the MU community supports it. If its a big deal to you I can PM you on the subject in a few weeks when I am back from work but I think there is a very real issue going on here.
I hope your confusion about my confusion will motivate you to speak more understandable in the future. Nobody is out to get you.

Just to be clear, that mention of a law that was 60 years ago - is it supposed to address anything that MM or Oberon or oops said? As far as I understand, they're addressing the "black culture makes you go to prison" argument? I don't think a law from 60 years ago is relevant if so.

I stopped being lazy and googled it. My amazing deduction skills figured out googling "segregation law".

    It's:
De jure segregation mandated the separation of races by law, and was the form imposed by slave codes before the Civil War and by Black Codes and Jim Crow laws following the war. De jure segregation was outlawed by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

Ok what the actual fuck? It's a law over half a century old. How the F is it remotely relevant to the topic of today's prison population and culture influence on it?
