    If it's for community out reach it's very over bearing and should be simplified a lot more. I'd recommend going with 'Working on' 'Planned' 'Completed' categories and then compress a lot of what you have listed into sub categories.
    That's true, it is very overbearing. Part of the reason why I'm even showing the board is to show that I'm a little overwhelmed myself.

    But also to see if anyone's willing to help wrangle this. It was cool to see naz, secondpassing, and SJ show some interest.

    My first instinct after looking through all the elements on the narrator site is to hit start just to see what a day would look like, but it won't let me start without three people. I think it would be kinda cool to have an in-game recording so someone could simulate playing a match. If you wanted to appeal to people who never played mafia, I think this would be the way to go. I'm not suggesting that mafia on narrator be available to be played with bots that chat though. If simulating a game on narrator is difficult or too hard, another video of a recorded game could suffice.

    Now, this, I can work with. Personally, I hate hearing the sound of my own voice, and am not too keen on the video tutorial solution. I think speech bubbles + simulated game like Renegade suggested would be optimal here.

    So second passing and naz have each made solid attempts to organize the board and got different results. Which is expected. road map planning is difficult and subjective.

    I totally agree that some sort of tutorial is necessary!!!! I think this is big fish to fry though and it totally deserves it's own thread for the following questions:

    What sort of tutorial are you looking for? Here are a few that come to mind
    - Video tutorial, like on youtube.
    - Allow start with just yourself, filling in the game with bots
    - Build in the proper UI hints that would properly guide new players on the UI and mafia.
    - Write up a word doc for Q&A

    Who is my target audience?
    - Members of sc2mafia, who have arcade mafia experience
    - People who've played mafia before, IRL
    - People who have never played mafia before
    - People who want to host their own games, without me, Voss, being present.

    I could go ahead and do all the solutions above, but that'd take forever and probably have at least some wasted effort. So, in order for me to build a good tutorial, I need to know who I'm creating the tutorial for. On top of that, I'd need volunteers to have a vested interest in helping me make sure that tutorial is solid. Otherwise it's wasted effort, right?

    I'd love to explore this in this thread or another one! I think another one could be more informative to other forum members though.

      • I’ve had this reported before, but it’s never happened to me. It might be because I’m the host, and need to let someone else be the host so I can start seeing this.
      • Definitely believe and see that it’s happening. It’s just tough to fix if I don’t get the bug.
      • At least people are still able to talk in dead chat though.
    • Cultists can’t see new partners - SuperJack
      • This was working at one point. I can go through the process of seeing how a cultist gets recruited, and what they see and make sure what I coded before is still there. If it’s not, I know what the asks are and can make this better.
    • Nav items aren’t sticked on mobile - Magoroth
      • Mag had to open up a day chat, and scroll allllll the way to the top to see the button for Actions, so that he could vote
      • This might be a css issue. I can double check this
      • Mag also said he might have just been dumb.



    Enhancements
    • Put previous actions in your “Clues” - Naz
      • People, including myself, kept forgetting who they targeted night to night.
      • Clues should tell you who you did your action on, and then results after
    • PM/Mention spam when playing in the UI - Renegade, Loldebrite
      • If you’re using the webUI, the bot should be able to detect this, and not keep spamming you with invites to join the night server chat
      • It should also not keep pinging you that day/night has started in discord, if you’re playing on the UI.
    • Vote Recap - Oops
      • This is my least proud part in all of the UI code. It’s pretty bad, ugly, and non intuitive. This should be more integrated with votes, and the whole design really needs to be rethought.
      • My idea is to have an expand/collapse around where you submit votes, so you can see who else is voting them.
      • A long term idea is to have this graphical interface showing who voted who, and when. A sort of graphical history.
    • Timer effects - Timetrx
      • As day approaches 0, the timer should start to flash, and get angry
      • Other possible ideas is to add sound effects and/or a progress bar. There’s a lot of empty space at the top not being utilized. But I also like TimeTrx’s simple UI for chat/time. maybe the progress bar is overkill.
    • !setup should show the current setup - Naz
      • I saw naz trying to get the setup list from discord while the game was in progress. It was telling her that it would output available setups post game.
      • There should be a difference between !setup and !setups. Ban !setups and show the current !setup. It should still be pmed though
    • Night/Day Chat organization strategy needs work - TimeTrx
      • This needs some thought, but I think a drop down to see the current day/night might work here.
    • Dropdown for drugs is shitty - oops
      • Perfectly agree on this one. All of the dropdowns in any actions are shitty.
      • One of my higher priority things is to rewrite the code around action submission. It’s a terrible garbage. When I get to that, I’ll be able to use the nice react components that will clean the fuck up out of the drop downs. If you go to view the setup drop down list from the home page, that’s a much nicer looking dropdown that can be used here.
    • Dead player’s colors should be their faction color, not the live/starting colors - Voss
      • We change people’s names from Voss to Voss (Bus Driver), but the color changes the same.
      • It was, and should be the old name.
    • People voting modkilled players couldn't change their votes afterward - Naz



    Major enhancements
    • Separate setup page from game lobby page- Timetrx
      • There’s no need to go full on game creation in lobbies. Your setup should already be created by the time you want to host your game. this is a relic of sc2mafia’s system in which you can’t easily create your own saves. the narrator supports multiple custom saves. Now there just needs to be a setup workshop for this sort of thing


    Feature Requests
    • Pin messages into “Clues” - Nighter
      • It would be great to be able to keep track of people’s claims and feedback and have that all in one place.
      • It would be triple-y cool if the bot did that for you
      • To be able to detect “I’m cop” or “I was bussed” automatically, would be fantabulous. Pipe dream at this point though
    • Pming - loldebite
      • It’s something I want to do to maintain parity with sc2mafia’s arcade version, but it’s also a tool that town doesn’t need to win the game.
      • don’t know if I can justify prioritizing this feature.
    • Graphical setup expanded view - Magoroth
      • It’d be cool to have some tree view of setups. Something really interactive and flashy.
      • Needs a real designer for this to ever be a reality, but I love the idea. Goes kind of with Timetrx’s idea
    • Post game chat - Naz
    • Rate Limiting. too much chaos - Animal Midwife
      • Agreed. Too much spam makes it hard to follow.
      • Another idea Ive been toying with a lot is giving less rate limitation to people that are more highly voted.
      • If you’re suspicious, you can talk more, because you need to defend yourself.
      • If you’re less suspicous, people don’t really need to hear from you.
      • Could also let the ‘towniest’ person speak too, aka people that have the fewest/ no votes on them.

    Update


    Narrator Features
    • Added a new multivote system. You can vote for as many people as you want. The person with the most votes at EoD dies.
    • Added the concept of adding 'roles' to 'factions', allowing the same role to be added to different factions. Mafia Stripper vs Town Stripper. These are called faction roles
    • Added control for have the day length decrease as the game progresses. For example on day 1 it can be 15 minutes, day 2, 13, day 3, 11 minutes. Also has a floor
    • "Parity Check" ability: Detect someone on Night 1. On Night 2 learn whether the first person's alignment is the same as the second person's alignment.
    • Allow games to start if there are less players than roles in a game. Some roles just won't be assigned.
    • Added "Back to Back" modifier, enabling or disabling someone from trying to target the same person night after night.
    • Added modifier for allowing/disallowing whether an action can be used based off living team members. For example, a cult could start to kill if they get enough team members, but not before.
    • Added attribute on a random in a roles list to be exposed or not
    • Added attribute on a random in a roles list to have to be spawned or not. This is useful in games where there are less players than roles.
    • Added concept of "min/max player count" for whether a role is part of a roles list. This adds dynamic roles list based on setup, and stores this information in the database, rather than having multiple copies of the same setup that have different roles list based on player count.


    Narrator Fixes
    • Stop ghosts from winning if they're alive at the end of game.
    • Fixed bug in condorcet calculations
    • Spell publicly correctly.
    • Faction Kill can be a role ability now.
    • Punch can be used on day 2
    • Cleaned up self-target text
    • Hides poisoner/doctor interaction text if poisoner not in the game


    Setup Management Enhancements
    • Added concept of "Featured" setups. All the setups on the host page were hard coded, but they're mostly migrated out and stored in the database now.
    • Added concept of an uneditable setup. A setup becomes uneditable if it a game is hosted off of it, or becomes featured.
    • Added concept of "setup" modifiers vs "game" modifiers. Stuff like "doctor gets feedback" is a setup modifier, while "day length" is a game modifier.
    • Most abilities can be added and shared among factions and manipulated through the API
    • Factions can be created/deleted through the API
    • Roles can be created/deleted through the API
    • Factions can have their roles be deleted or added from them through the API.
    • Factions can have their enemies be updated through the API
    • Sheriff checks can have their detectable teams updated through the API.
    • Setups now have names, slogans, and descriptions, associated to them.
    • Roles can be deleted from "Random Roles"(aka town random or hidden mafia)
    • Players can receive a different role card than they actually are, and this is editable through the API. (There's a bug with this though and needs to be investigated)
    • Roles can have modifiers added to them through the API.
    • Role abilities can have modifiers added to them through the API.
    • Featured setups cannot be deleted, only archived.
    • Whether a role spawns based on player size is configurable through the API.
    • Whether the players know what role a setup hidden spawned (like town random) is configurable through the API
    • Setups can now be archived through the API
    • Setups that don't belong to a user can now be cloned so the user can own and edit these setups.


    Visual Enhancements
    • Added colored icons to players
    • Adjusting game phase lengths will be by minutes, not by seconds. Plans to make that a dropdown for seconds/minutes/hours/days.
    • Roles can be added to factions.
    • The vote system can now be changed.
    • Cult invitation feedback will now show a picture.
    • Player count limits now depend on added roles, not a setting.
    • Adding setup hidden will propagate to the windows of other players.
    • Changed home page links to point to Narrator Discord, and Sc2mafia home page.
    • UI will show whether a player is active or not.

    • Started converting the front end to using React and Redux!!!!!
    • Refactored more action requests to the Narrator server. Switching from using websockets to http.
    • Learned about 'rem' and how that should be the standard for text size usage.
    • Rewrote bird vote to use React.
    • Rewrote thread scrape to cache pages.

    A goon, a mayor and a citizen open a game, and decide to do nothing for 12,000 days. This caused a lot of memory to build up and slow the narrator down in general.

    I will be implementing a max day cap in the narrator until I can structure the game to handle 12,000 days.

    This person is a leader in our community and such an offense was unexpected, as well as disappointing to see. This is however a first offense. Aamirus will be disqualifed from the ladder as well as not receive any ladder points for this game.

    They will not be receiving ladder points for this game, nor be able to participate in the following game, Standoff.

    For everyone
    It's time consuming, as well as difficult to moderate this sort of thing, and it's not something I relish or enjoy doing. It however, must be done as to affirm the belief that you can find quality forum games here on sc2mafia.com.

    If we see anyone that participated in this game do this type of ragequit/angleshooting again, harsher punishments than ladder point withholding and single game bans will be given. You've seen it happen here. You've been warned. Don't do it.

    My note:
    If you ever find yourself being frustrated with a game, remember that policy votes are something you can utilize. You aren't going to win every game. Make your 5 good posts, set your vote, and come back when the start of the next day starts. Give your mind a break from whatever is the cause of the frustration. And then in the post game say "I told you so!".

    Back in MLK's time too, a lot of people didn't think to seem there was a problem. People are going to look back at today's times and say the same thing we said about then.

    Also, to put another spin in this conversation, the media has financial incentive to show news that will keep their base coming back for more news, showing them just enough controversy so that they're not turned off to the platform. And this generates an unfortunate feedback loop. If the news showed "yay liberals and conservatives are working together!!" that'd be boring and people wouldn't tune in. My point is if you're getting your news from just one source, it's going to be twisted.

    And what the fuck! I've had to watch some fox news when I was living with my uncle and the logical fallacies they brought up constantly were stupendously large. I'm shocked that people that play mafia here wouldn't have the skillset to pick apart their arguments because of the leaps in logic they're making, setting up straw man, as well as the attacks on the conversational medium (shouting over guest talks). It was sickening to watch.

    i've a few post rants on why things like hammering and majority lynch should be considered "scum sided", as opposed to "not town sided", but mag and aamirus are going to kill me if I derail it.

    mag, maybe this will suit your purpose? use condorcet to give vote power, and then use a concurrent other vote system like plurality to actually dish out lynch votes?

    I think the game with this sort of voting will not have things like:
    fast hammers
    scum-lead turbo lynches
    scum-lead lynchings of town leaders who are town

    It also reduces the amount of cooperation needed for town to lynch in an order, as one person will continue holding the vote power

    I love the idea conceptually! The only problem with mixing in ranking is that you run into this mathematical feedback loop where the people that are towniest might be considered that way because the 'scummiest' people are voting them there.

    Hey everyone,

    As I continue to tirelessly work on a new mafia platform, I need some help testing a new vote system. Some of you may know me as the guy who has it in for the basic majority vote system and my interesting attempts to get "Bird"/Ranked choice voting to be more mainstream. Anyway, I've been hosting zoom mafia games with my extended college buddies, and we've been something in between single vote majority and ranked choice voting: a non-ranked multi vote system. Instead of being allowed to only vote for one person, you can vote for as many people as you want. You just can't rank them. (yet) ((evil laughter))

    I've gotten pretty good at testing things myself, as I don't need 6 different computers running Starcraft2 to test my mafia code. However, I'm looking for some testers to help test this because voting is so integral to the game, and when I run my mafia games this weekend, the game can't fall down because voting isn't working.


    I'm looking for minimum 4 testers on Friday 4pm PST to help me get the kinks out. It shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes to run through the scenarios.
