Use other languages : bannable ?
Hi , i' ve just played a game of Mafia on EU server , and during the game , as mafia in a setup with sure spy , after according with my others mates , i started to talk latin for makes the spy's works much more difficult , but at end game , the spy said "i will report you , you didin' t talked in english !".
Now , i'm not sure if can be reportable , but it's legal do this ?:S
Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
Nah, i highly doubt that using another language in a game would be punishable.
Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
no its not... but its kinda a douchey thing to do.. play fair negro
Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
It is not punishable.. at least for now. Once b.net is Global we may reconsider our stance.

Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
It was just a question , cuz i didn' t want be banned for had used another language
Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
If we banned someone for speaking in another language, that would make us racist. We don't want that image.
Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
You were playing on the EUROPEAN server, and are worried about getting banned for not speaking in ENGLISH?

Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
the idea is to share with everyone what is being said. So if only the group that is a party start to exchange in a language other than the one that was started in game, then yes they are cheating since they are exchanging information in an unfair way that gives them an advantage. it's cheating!
but if you are bored and simply exchange Latin to no one specifically, and there is no valid information in it that someone could google translate on the side... then I would say that you simply have a short attention span and perhaps a game of SC2 Mafia requires more concentration then what you can afford?
Re: Use other languages : bannable ?

Re: Use other languages : bannable ?

Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
I'm going to have to disagree. Using a language to transfer information between one another shouldn't be considered cheating. It's another form of communication that requires the means to break down. I can hardly see this as a huge factor in the game that if two people speak a language other's can't, that they'll for 100% win for sure. All it does is mean two people share information that can't be heard by others, just like a private message.
Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
you have a valid point, seeing it as a PM could be a way of interpret it but for my part, it's still cheating, and here is why, if you PM someone, then it's private but you can't possibly know that the person you are sending a pm to his your friend, and there for, if you did know who he was, you are cheating in some other way already. Secondly, if you do not PM your msg, then it should be seen and understood by all. thirdly, if you write something in a foreign language to see who your buddy is, then you again cheating, forming alliances that should not be made in game by finding out who your friends are.

Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
That's assuming they -are- friends, however. What if it happened by random happenstance and he spoke in a foregin language to say, for example, a crude joke or a sly insult that wasn't meant to grace the person's eyes so he wouldn't form an angry rebuke, while still giving the person the means to curse. Like it happens in all games and instances of social interaction. And then someone else who understands the language sees it, and begins to start talking in the same language?
Assuming just makes an ass out of you, and me.

Re: Use other languages : bannable ?
Another language or gibberish is as equally considered cheating as using morse code would be.
brotip: learn how to use morse code - beat the game
