A small crowd had gathered at the Cathedral by the time the darkened "sun" had begun to crawl it's way up the horizon, most covered in layers of grime and other filth they had accumulated in the days that had passed since darkness descended upon their world. Small groups began to form as they waited for the small contingent of guards to say something, anything, that would bring some clarity to why they had been summoned here, with what was going on.

The guards themselves stayed removed from the rest of the crowd, speaking in hushed tones. The man who wore the captain's badge clutched a piece of parchment, and whatever discussion they were having seemed to revolve around it, as it was often unfurled once again, and all eyes fell locked upon it. Then, after a time, suspicious eyes would rise from the depths of the parchment and cast themselves out across the crowd. Each glare a punctuating accusation. And then the cycle would repeat.

Eventually, the Captain, apparently deciding that no one else would appear, stepped forward. He raised a gauntlet and motioned for silence.

"People of Adelaide! Hear me! As the recently appointed Captain of the Guard, I have called you here this morning for one reason. " A pause followed, the captain obviously working up his own nerve to continue.

"A certain document has come to my possession, one found within the room of a man many of you will likely not be aware even existed in this city until now. This document was written by none other than Father Matthew Fairbrooks, Archbishop of the Catholic Hierarchy, whom was here investigating accusations of heresy."

The crowd's restlessness grew, many of them exchanging glances laced with fear. As the crowd's voices grew louder as they conversed, he rose his hand again.

"Well, this document I hold bears the proof of such accusations. In his final hour, Father Matthew wrote this document in hopes that some few of us would have the chance to survive this ordeal. And so, I will read it to you now:
'Children of Adelaide,

If you are reading this, the denizens of darkness have finally taken me. I write to you now to caution you of what must be done. Take heed of my words, for if you do not, I fear Adelaide will never find redemption in God's graces. A terrible evil has descended upon Adelaide, a vampire lord known as none other than Count Dracula. Even now as I gaze up upon the evil that has covered this city, I can feel the darkness that seethes from him in this city. To what purpose he comes, I do not know, but know that this heretic must be purged and his bastard sires smitten before Adelaide will ever return to the light. But that is not the only illness that plagues this city. My brothers of the light and I have battled other vampires, those known only as 'The Nosferatu' and 'The Children of the Night'. The tomes speak of these clans as if their powers rival that of the heretic Count Dracula himself. While we killed many, I fear there are still yet more within the city.

Of this I am certain: If every heretic is not erased from Adelaide, every soul within it's walls will be damned for eternity.

The captain rolled the parchment back up, stuffing it into a pocket and then signaling his men to fan out around the square, preventing the small crowd that had gathered from leaving.
