View Full Version : Is this gamethrowing? GREY AREA!

So I just got recruited to cult. I wasn't originally on the cult team. Therefore, one could argue that it isn't gamethrowing if I call out my "new" team member and myself!

Yes, I know this sounds really stupid and I would lose the game. But most gamethrowing crimes are attributed to betraying your current team, but not the team you have been converted to.

God help us if DR implements a new faction in the 1.5 update.

Technically it IS game-throwing.
Game-throwing is when you directly play against your roles objectives, so when you are converted to cult, your objectives change, and therefore you game-throw by outting the other cult member as well as yourself.

I don't see this "GREY AREA!" you mention at all, you were recruited onto a team and instead of playing with your team you exposed it to everyone and ruined the game for your team.

You also ruined the game for everyone that cares about the mystery (as in using your head to sort out who's who), even for the guys who ended up winning cause of your action. All in all a fairly scummy action which should certainly be punishable. ( If this was just a hypotetical scenario and you didn't actually do this, sorry. But if you actually did it, I wouldn't want to play again with you imo )

What this little boy doesn't realize: I never gamethrew as cult. I desire points no matter what team I'm on. But the most annoying thing ever in Mafia, is being converted to cult. But it does make you laugh LOL!

Okay, I was recruited onto the wrong team: the EVIL team! I'm sure the town would appreciate me not becoming a full TURNCOAT, AMIRIGHTORWHAT???

Well, it's really nothing personal. Mafia is sometimes about stuff like that.

In the end, it's just a game. Sometimes you have to lie abit and so be it ^_^.

Generally, first offenses go On Hold. Part of the reason is the limited amount of script space we have to work with, the other part is that if it is something that the person plans on always doing, they will get reported again, and that makes it a multiple offenses and the intent of the user becomes clearer.

It is for this reason mafia cannot be converted to cult and masons kill cultists/detect them upon attempted conversion. While town's roles are not known to the town, other factions know their teammates. Revealing them to cult is a form of imbalance that is prevented through these designs.

I never resorted to ad-hominem attacks against you. In fact, if you read everything I said, I even apologized in case this was just a hypotetical situation and not something you actually did.

Let me put it another way, let's say you spawn as Cultist in a game, and you randomly recruit another guy on the 1st night, the next day, that guy rages and tells everyone he was recruited, tells you did it, then quits - wouldn't that piss you off ? If it would, don't do it to others.

(PS: Thanks for showing your true colours by calling someone who didn't agree with you a widdle boy tho)
(PSS: ^ - this was also an ad hominem attack, do you see how it doesn't feel very nice when others use them against you ? - Refer back to my 2nd paragraph for this one aswell.)

AKIRA, I made a PERSONAL ATTACK against Relnor earlier, please ban me!

Yes you're right, it would be bullshit. It's bullshit to get cult in the first place. I guess I shouldn't really complain, DR has balanced the game very well, and we better learn to love the cult. Although most players hate saves with guaranteed cult positions.

I guess the cult IS brilliant, in that if a previous townie has already been checked by sheriff, he is a townie for the rest of game, and they have no idea he's been turned to a cult.

I'm now a game catcher. But I did some ragequitting last night.

I don't really see this as grey at all. It's absolutely gamethrowing. You're on the cult now. That's your team. You betrayed them. I'm not trying to be mean or anything like that...but it's definitely gamethrowing without any grey in the mix.

you're asking like you don't gamethrow on purpose.. I have a save with you as Godfather, you called out other 2 mafia then left the game... but we don't blame you necro, everyone knows about your learning disability :D

No different to you callling out other Mafia member names when you're in Mafia team - so there's no grey area about it in any form...

I don't think that Necro would game throw on purpose. I think it's a clear case of someone losing it after being converted. I mean we can all agree that being converted to cult, n1 is pretty stressful. I think he just had a meltdown and tried to sort things out with his god... the truth will set you free !

as I see it, Necro you should hire a shrink right away to see what was really going thru your mind at that time. That combined with your new job that get you up at insane hours of the night... I mean it's a surprise that you managed to keep it together for so long.

Clear case of insanity, not guilty, he could not realize what he was doing at the time.

Even still it's gamethrowing. He just shouldn't be punished since he didn't have the intent at the time (he was legally insane).

To be perfectly honest that is clearly game-throwing. That's like being Amnesiac, turning Mafia then outing yourself and the other Mafia.
