"A cheater indebted to the Mafia who works under them to survive"

The Gambler is a Mafia Power role with the ability to redirect players. Designed around them, the Gambler joins the Witch and the Bus Driver as redirection roles.

"Your target spends the night with people"
"Your target is a member of the Mafia"

Mafia players cannot be targeted
Switches Player A's target with Player B's target

If both Players have no targets, nothing will happen
If the Gambler chooses himself, the Player will target the Gambler

Coward
Passive ability. Become a Consort when all Mafia are killed.

Can be set to become a Mafioso
Can be set to become a Survivor

Sorry! I don't see how a "Gambler" can misdirect other people.

Sorry! I don't see how a "Gambler" can misdirect other people.

You can think of him as a "Taxi Driver" of sorts. While the Bus Driver drives his targets home, the Gambler drives them to their target, while the Witch chooses who they want. It's like a 3 step process, and the Taxi Driver fits the middle-ground.

The Witch handles the beginning, being the target. The Gambler manages the middle, controlling the action. The Bus Driver assumes the final result, the position. With the 3 steps of target, action, and position, the Gambler fits the middle action role, making him an effective counter against the Bus Driver. This creates a rock-paper-scissor effect.

The Witch acts as the Gambler's counter, creating an unpredictable action that he, cannot control. The Gambler can easily counter the Bus Driver by reversing the two targets' actions, nullifying his events. The Bus Driver, however, can counter the Witch by disrupting the target she controls. This adds a balance that can only be achieved with a middle-ground role. The lack of offensive redirection gave the Witch and the Bus Driver a fluctuating balance battle, leading to many problems and complaints. With a proper counter, the pubs might stop hating the Bus Driver.

However, the Gambler is still useless alone. Since he can only misdirect targets, he faces an easy death. While the Bus Driver can save himself from death, the Gambler can only redirect attacks towards himself and other random targets. Even the Witch has greater offensive abilities than he does, with her ability to make roles visit Veterans and commit suicide. The inability to rely on Mafia allies is to balance the Gambler within the pyramid. If the Gambler could force Vigilantes to target Town roles, he would became extremely overpowered.

I still don't see how a "Gambler" ( being a gambler ) switches people's abilities.

Saying he does, how would it deal with 2 targets, such as the witch or the BD. Does your target only bus 1 person? And what about the witch? If witch targets player A to target player B and the gambler targets the witch and player C, and player C targets player D, then does that mean player D target player B because he is witched into player D or does player A target player D?

He doesn't. The Gambler misdirects players, swapping the targets of two players. In your scenario, the Gambler would go first, as he has an ability directly targeting the Witch. The Witch would visit Player C's target while Player C would visit both Player A, but not Player B. There needs to be a balance, as having an Escort target 2 players at once isn't exactly balanced.

In terms of the order of events, assuming that the player has been targeted by one of the three roles, the Bus Driver goes first and swaps the player with another, the Witch comes next to redirect a target, and the Gambler goes last, to misdirect. Relocation, Redirection and Misdirection is complicated.

Bus Driver -> Witch -> Gambler

Anyways, plot-wised, the Gambler isn't actually attached to the Mafia's cause. He's just a guy in debt working for them to survive. The Mafia makes him do whatever they need him to do. Anyways, think of him as a giver of directions. This explains his ability to become a Survivor when all the Mafia are dead.

Interesting role, but I could see things going VERY wrong with it: "Hey guys, I'm gambler, X and Y are the other mafia, doc on me please and I'll turn survivor." Having that happen day 1 really could ruin a game.

I just nerfed the Coward ability. Instead of becoming a Survivor, the default transformation becomes Consort.

Firstly I wanna say I registered especially to make comment on this thread.

Secondly I wanna mention how great your idea is.

Thirdly I wanna show you how easily you can avoid situation posted by Flyte. Godfather or Consigliere (if godfather is no more) or Mafioso (if consigliere is no more too) can decide to get rid of gambler if he tries to betray them. Once he's dead he will be shown as a survivor, not a gambler to not make his words legitimate. Death describtion is the same as for -suicide. Moreover, gambler as a survivor has no vests, because usually it would make him immortal during night since we all know how late mafia is used to die.

Thanks for your attention I guess I can stay here for a while.

It works something like that.
