The Imposter is a role based on the Miller, found here: http://wiki.epicmafia.com/index.php?title=Miller
Role: Impostor
Alignment: Neutral/Advanced
Description: You're lifelong dream was to become a member of the Mafia, but they turned you down. Unable to cope with reality, you dress and act like a member of the Mafia.
Goal: Help the Mafia take over the town.
Abilities: The Impostor has no active ability. Instead, he shows up as a member of the Mafia to Sheriffs and Investigators. If lynched, his role is stated as Mafioso. If killed at night, his role is stated as Impostor.
What's the point?: The Impostor would serve as a red herring. For example, say a Sheriff investigates an Impostor. He sees a member of the Mafia, and he convinces the town to lynch the Impostor. Because the Impostor is lynched, his role is shown as Mafioso. The town then thinks there is one less Mafia member then there really is.
Here are some ideas of changeable options that can be selected before the game starts:
-Investigator who investigates Impostor sees an Impostor, not a member of the Mafia
-Impostor who is lynched is shown as an Impostor and not Mafioso
-Impostor who is killed at night is shown as Mafioso and not Impostor
These options would allow people to tweak the Impostor to their liking.
I hope you guys like this idea for a role. Long time player of Mafia, first time poster. You can message/play with me on the NA servers, my name is Villedge.

I don't know. While it looks good for the mafia I think it would really suck to be the Imposter. It's just so weak, lets compare it to the survivor and witch.
Survivor:
Shows up as not suspicious.
Gets bullet proof vests.
Can share a win with either the town OR the mafia.
Imposter:
Shows up as Mafia
No vests or abillity
Can only win with the mafia.
Witch:
Shows up as Suspicious
Most powerful ability in the game. Role blocking + controling gf/sk/escort/bg/etc
Prefers to win with mafia, town must lose.
It just seems like it combines the weaknesses of the witch and survivor without any of the benefits. What does the Imposter have that makes it any more than a heavily restricted survivor? Am I missing something?

There are much weaker roles in the game than an Impostor. Citizens, Masons, and Mason leaders are pretty much cannon fodder for the Mafia. The impostor would be like the Mafia equivalent to the Citizen: He can vote and influence lynchings, and he serves as Cannon Fodder to the town. If the town wastes a lynch/kill on an Impostor, it just leaves the Mafia with another night to kill someone.
EDIT: Also, if the town kills the Impostor it will mislead them into thinking that they have 1 less Mafia member to worry about. This would help a Mafia member convince the town he is a town/neutral role.

Yeah, but the citizen and mason have allies, can win without surviving, and have power in numbers. This role just looks like the game's butt monkey, his goal is to survive without powers while everyone wants him dead. Correct me if I'm misunderstanding something.
Edit response: Yeah it helps mafia but by this point the imposter has died and has failed its goal to "survive". Lets say I am a imposter. As far as I'm concerned i'm a survivor with no vests, show up as mafia, and can't win if the mafia dies. How is that playable to "me" as the imposter.

Would it be more balanced if his primary goal was to help Mafia win the game? That way the player worries more about deceiving town than saving his own skin.
In regards to earning points, the player would earn the most points (like 20ish or so) if he survives and Mafia wins. If he dies but Mafia still wins, he will win 15 points. If he dies and mafia loses, we will win 5 points.
This way the most preferable outcome would still be surviving and and Mafia winning, but dying and Mafia winning would still be a favorable outcome.

Witch:
Shows up as Mafia
Incorrect, Witch does not appear as Mafia.
Also, different roles get different points at the end because some are harder to win as.

He said Impostor shows up as Mafia, not Witch.
And I know different roles get different points, I was just giving general numbers.

He edited his post which is still incorrect. Witch appears the same as survivor to investigator and not suspicious to sheriff.

I just checked it and wow. Did he change it because I could swear the sheriff could detect the witch at one point or another.

you could make the Impostor immune to night attacks, or immune to night attacks by Mafia(maybe give them a prompt telling them he is impostor so they still gain something with the wasted attack)
or make him appear in the mafia list on right, but don't allow him to talk/see the mafia's chat.
