This is going to sound like those adults in Footloose, but not even. I think what they did was entirely oppressive, they wouldn't even let kids DANCE!
You know that with all revolutions, comes retribution? Dance music has overcome all boundaries, and is now punishing the ears of people who don't want to listen to it.
I'll admit something: I worked at Tiger Direct. There was no clear rule on what kind of music was allowed to play through the speakers, so the people who have free reign of the floor opened up a dance hits station, because it's music THEY liked. No classic rock allowed. The vote was unanimous, as the people who hated the music were cashiers like me, and had restricted movement. So, this is a store where not only computer nerds came in, but families and children too, as we sold other electronics too. Oh, how many DICK REFERENCES I've heard over the radio. What innuendo I was forced to listen to. They didn't even have to say anything that is covered under censorship rules, they could allude it.
Nicki Minaj gets away with not having to have her songs censored because she sings so fast, you can't really understand what she's saying, so she can say dick over the radio. BUT, Weezer was forced to re-write a song entire "We are all on drugs" became "We are all in love". Maybe it was their personal choice, maybe they wanted to be paid more money so they sold out to MTV's wishes.
The thing is, these dance hits are now invading non-dance stations. They are invading top 40, and mixing themselves in. There is no escape unless you have Sirius, XM, or your own custom music.
This isn't the argument of a parenting-type individual. Rather, this is an over-analysis of music I am being forced to listen to on ANY radio station, if I choose to tune in. The fact they get away with lack of censorship/control, while other genres of music have to comply, is added insult to injury.
Oh, by the way, that music station also played Justin Bieber. Think about that before you go against me.
