Night 6 - Shame

The people solemnly discussed among themselves, trying to piece together the evidence from their talks, their jobs, and the events of the past few nights to figure out the identities of the criminals among them. The hot-blooded anger and undying thirst for vengeance that was there the previous days had died out, but the worry still lingered, only growing stronger. As evening began to roll in, Georgy Lvov stepped onto the podium and announced that, as per a vote by the Provisional Government, Evgheni was to be executed for treason, sentenced for his suspected involvement in the kidnapping of the Tsar. Evgheni hardly resisted as he was grabbed by the guards and pushed onto the gallows, tired from the events of previous nights. The masked executioner slipped the noose over his head and tightened it around his neck, then asked if he had any last words, to which the man shook his head. A tear flowed out of Evgheni's eye as the executioner pulled the lever, pulling the floor out from under Evgheni’s feet. His neck snapped instantly, the tear on his cheek flinging off with the snapping force of the rope. Suddenly, a well-dressed man ran into the crowd, pushing through people and yelling at the top of his lungs. He got to the front of the crowd and, upon seeing Evgheni’s body, stopped yelling and halted. Lvov demanded the man to explain what he was doing, to which the man answered that he was the owner of a boot factory at which Evgheni worked hard every day, and came to clear Evgheni’s name once he heard of his sentencing. Lvov’s heart sank, and the entire crowd became entirely silent. After a few moments, Lvov dismissed the crowd and slowly stepped off the podium, pondering his grave mistake. The people dispersed, and walked straight to their homes and apartments, none of them willing to engage in anything other than sleeping.
